  1. Does anybody (aside from TitoMB) think Dunn will break Belle's single season home run record (49)? If so, do you think he'll be able to do it more than once during this contract?
  2. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Dunn on recruiting Konerko: "I personally would love to have him back, if Kenny wants him to call him, I will." Dunn on dh or fielding: "I don't care. I'll do whatever they want me to do." Dunn on Ozzie: "I'm a loud guy too so we'll get along." Dunn: "I know I'm joining a team that has been successful. Have an opportunity to not just win, but to win a World Series." I'm starting to feel like we are being set up for a Paul Konerko heel turn where he signs with the Twins or something.
  3. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) KW is on a roll. If we could re-sign PK and Putz and add another pen arm, I'd be ecstatic. This. I really do think PK is going to be back, but I worry about Putz. I would like Thornton to remain in the setup role and have Putz assume closing duties.
  4. People need to remember that Jerry is 74. If I were him, I'd be thinking that I'm probably not long for this world. I'd want to win and win now. Really, that isn't a bad strategy with this team. The team had bad breaks and a number of players underachieved in 2010. A couple more good signings and this team is a legit championship threat.
  5. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 08:25 PM) Love me some PK but last season kind of came out of nowhere. If you sign him to a 2 or 3 year deal chances are you'll never see anything even close to last season. A mediocre PK season is equal to a mediocre DLee season, for a whole lot less money. Outside of '06, last season was a career year for Paulie. At 35, you just can't count on much more of that. Not really. Konerko was fully healthy for the first time in a LONG while, hence the monster numbers. If you look at his career numbers, all his down years correlate with injury woes.
  6. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 10:32 PM) +1. This ^. Today was about Konerko more than a lot of fans realize.... You know what the whole Konerko situation reminds me of? Someone putting a relationship on hold for the sake of the other party getting their s*** together. I think PK had the mindset that if the White Sox were able to put together a highly competitive roster, he'd be back. If not, on to greener pastures. Today's signings were KW's version of this:
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 10:07 PM) And THAT is why you don't offer him arbitration, he would have gotten about $7M through arb and we just locked him up for a million more on a 2 year deal. This has been a very, very good day. Most definitely. I was not expecting AJ to return, but with him and Dunn on the roster I have to think that our chance of resigning PK has increased exponentially.

  10. I'm not sure if this has been covered as a topic in the past because the search engine doesn't work, but I'm curious to see what people have to say. In the instance that you were to become a pro athlete (baseball player, pro wrestler, MMA fighter, boxer, whatever), what music would you choose as an entrance theme? Why? Post videos of songs in the thread as you see fit.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 05:56 PM) New Tron Legacy trailer = awesome http://screenrant.com/tron-legacy-trailer-3-sandy-87008/ Does anyone else think the CGI they did on Bridges face looks bad? I really like the trailers for the movie, but every time I see CLU - I get pulled out of the experience. Hopefully, it looks better on the big screen.
  12. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 01:29 PM) 2nd player in the NBA I most despise after Lebron. THIS X 10000000 They are 1a and 1b in my book. Watch a few games with Garnett and you can easily see what a huge dbag he is. Somehow, commentators interpret his asshattery as "fire and passion". I hope KG tries some of that cheap shot s*** on Noah and/or Boozer this season. I would love to see him get his block knocked off. Slightly off topic, wasn't he throwing up gang signs in a game last year?
  13. I'm down for movie villains or video games.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Oct 28, 2010 -> 10:56 PM) I really don't like watching movies with subtitles. I feel like all I do is look at the bottom of the screen. I've heard people I know make this same comment and I feel bad for them in a way -- because I know they will probably miss out on some fantastic movies because they don't like or have a hard time keeping up with subtitles. I don't think that the experience of watching a foreign language film is much different than watching modern news or sports programs. Those types of shows often have graphics that frequently change as well as scrolling text at the bottom of the screen. There is arguably more for the brain to take in and process in those scenarios than with a subtitled movie.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 24, 2010 -> 10:47 AM) So I have to say, the new Apple Magic Trackpad is an absolute pleasure to use, and almost essential when using a large monitor. I bought one with my 27-inch iMac and it's just brilliant. Even though the magic mouse is also very nice, I don't think I'll ever use it, because the trackpad is just so much simpler. magic trackpad Secondly, I picked up a sony cybershot point and shoot camera the other day, as I have not had a camera since about my sophmore year in high school. Did a bit of research before buying, and am really happy with it so far. It has a really neat panoramic function and also works really well in low-light. What was the model number on that camera?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 27, 2010 -> 08:14 PM) Watched the Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo last weekend....it was very good, especially considering I had to read the subtitles. I've heard people complain about subtitles in movies before and I've never understood why it's an issue. Obviously, there are times when subtitles are done badly (flash quickly on and off the screen or are displayed in a way that is difficult to see) - which affects everybody. Do you feel like your attention is divided? iamshack, you should check out the sequel. If you happen to be a Netflix subscriber, "The Girl Who Played With Fire" was just added to the Instant Watch list.
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 15, 2010 -> 05:56 PM) The first chance that I will have to start the list will be Tuesday. Does that mean I can still submit a list?
  18. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 10, 2010 -> 09:48 PM) My wife pretty much hates horror films so I've seen very few since we've been together, but I grew up on a steady diet of them starting with the old Universal flicks and Svengoolie and all the Godzilla-type films. They were a huge part of my childhood. I have no idea how long you've been married, but I don't think you've missed much as there haven't been a lot of great horror movies released in the last 20 years. A whole lot of derivative garbage has been crapped out by film studios in that time frame. The only other genre on par, or arguably worse off, in that respect is the romantic comedy.
  19. Do films like Seven and Silence of the Lambs fall into the horror genre? Is it better to categorize them as thrillers or mysteries? It gets kind of murky when you consider films that blend elements of the traditional movie genres.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 08:24 PM) You could've said the same about Joker. Then Nolan did his own Joker and it killed. I think it would be the same with Riddler. There is no way the Joker can be considered corny unless you are talking about the old 60s TV show. He has been maiming and murdering people in a variety of ways for decades in the comics. There are many well written stories exploring the intricacies of that character. The Riddler is pretty one dimensional in comparison, but with good writing and casting he could be interesting. With that said, it is going to be really hard to follow Neeson as Ra's Al Ghul and Ledger as the Joker. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 08:46 PM) I read up on The Riddler a while ago. Wasn't he just basically a genius who wasn't really "bad," but just looking for a worthy adversary? I think I read that he was even a good guy on occasion. If they use The Riddler, then they'll probably need a secondary villain. Pretty much. Here is the "Powers and abilities" section of the Wikipedia page: The Riddler possesses extreme ingenuity in decoding and formulating puzzles of all kinds. His deductive ability has perfused his new role of private detective, in which he is shown to have investigative skills that rival those of the Dark Knight. The Riddler has no superhuman abilities, but is a highly cunning criminal strategist. He is not especially talented in fisticuffs (although his endurance has grown from having to engage in them over the years), but sometimes employs weaponry that exploits his gimmick, such as exploding jigsaw pieces, his infamous question mark cane, known to house a wide variety of technological devices and weapons, and question mark shaped pistols. He is shown to be skilled with engineering and technology, confronting Batman and Robin with unique and elaborate deathtraps.

The Riddler is one of the corniest villains in Batman's rogues' gallery. I don't really see him fitting in the world that Nolan has created. The Nolan brothers and Goyer are going to have to come up with an interesting angle to make him into a compelling foil. They seem to shy away from bad guys with a supernatural bent such as Clayface, Killer Croc, Mr. Freeze, ManBat, etc. It would be cool if they could work in a character like Deadshot (one of the world's greatest assasins) as a secondary villain.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 09:12 PM) Concussion for Cutler...and jeez, Forte is so slow hitting the holes. Really wish Taylor would get a majority of the carries. I was saying that exact thing to my brother like 15 minutes ago. Forte looks so sluggish.
  24. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 09:04 PM) Not much you can do except have the RBs and TEs help protect but this is entirely on Angelo because everybody knew the Oline was going to be a problem and he has done nothing at all to improve the Oline the last few years. Pretty much what I was thinking, but it is terrible when your options are max protect on every play or let the opposition set the all time sacks record in a game. s***ty situation.
