That's not at all uncommon for many companies. They don't search out whether you're dead or not. All she had to do was tell the credit card company to stop payment, and they'd take care of it. there are no good ones in Chicagoland anymore......too restrictive All the ones that used to be OK got shut down for "prostitution"... Two in Lyons...the original Cherry Club on Mannheim was "stripped" due to prostitution...it's comeback was lame. Promises on Mannheim, same. All the joints on Cicero Avenue (blatant prostitution!), and multitudes of seedy joints from the 70's were killed in the 80's, unfortunately.
