2009 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (scenario @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 11:59 AM) I'm assuming the injury requiring the surgery was the result of that infamous play in spring training, where Ozzie had him playing 1B. If so... are there any financial implications for the Sox? Considering he played after rehabbing that season, then played the entire next season, why would the Sox be responsible for the surgery? He could have done it on the Sox dime twice(after the original injury in 2007 and then in the offseason between 07 and 08)

QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 11:49 AM) The man's been "dealing with" shaving cream pies for God's sake. Who blocked a cream pie in 2008 where it looked like Toby hurt himself because it was blocked? Was it Thome? Quentin?

JOE.CREDE. = Twinkie
QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 11:43 AM) Poster K wishes that everyone would just shut the hell up about Crede. It has yet to be determined who Poster K really is. There are a few candidates. There could be a Poster K and a Poster K-1a

JOE.CREDE. = Twinkie
QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 11:06 AM) There is none. Really. There isn't. Seriously. It always comes back to this: Poster A says something to the effect of "Fields can be better" or "it's time for the Sox to let Crede go" or "I think Crede is overvalued by some because of x, y, and z." Poster B takes personal offense to this. Poster A is forced, again, to explain that he actually likes Crede, respects Crede for his contributions to 2005, or both. This is usually not good enough for Poster B who does not let the argument go even though Poster A was trying to highlight a simple difference opinion. This back-and-forth continues indefinitely, which brings us to this current thread. Which I'm going to attempt to stop reading and posting in. You also forget Poster C, who says everytime Crede's name is mentioned "I wish the Sox would go and sign Crede"(Crede can be switched with Rowand at any time), which is also an additional irritant to the Poster A and B argument

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 08:51 AM) I really enjoyed Owen in The Children of Men. That movie slowed to a crawl for me. Good premise, I actually read a old "Tales from the crypt" comic that had a very similar plot(and a much cooler ending), but I just thought the followthrough fell very short

QUOTE (farmteam @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 03:18 AM) So I totally didn't remember mentioning cockblocking...probably sounds like I'm angry. I'm not, just forgetful drunk! Plus it was his house, stuff happens. You like mentioning cockblocking a lot

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 21, 2009 -> 07:29 PM) Penn also bothers me a little, and I'll probably hate him if he gets the Oscar over Rourke. For two actors that I dislike that others seem to love, I'd say Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg. I don't think either of them is that good of an actor, though. I wouldnt even put those two in the same sentence. Bale has a much bigger acting repertoire and better skills than Wahlberg will ever have, like or dislike the guy. The guy I am starting to dislike a lot is Clive Owen. I just dont see the draw to the guy.

Official 2008-2009 College Basketball Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 21, 2009 -> 04:48 PM) He came pretty damn close to killing Brian Carlwell, who was in the hospital for a while and in critical condition for a couple days. Not to mention the fact that Jamar never deemed such a situation worthy of dialing 911. Not kicking Jamar off the team immediately after that incident was an absolutely indefensible decision by Bruce, end of story. Oh, and the "best" team in Illinois looked fantastic last night. Watching them and Northern Iowa, two of the three (along with Creighton) "best" teams in the Valley in their brackbusters just shows how far the league has fallen. SIU needs to get good again. You arent kidding. It was bad when they had two kids leave the program in November, the wheels shot off the cart when Mullins went down. Very sad end to his saluki career I have the utmost respect for Dana Altmans ability to keep his teams relevant. The Salukis were in the tourney for 6 years and we thought that was fantastic, Altman is about to go 7 out of 8 years or 8 out of 9, I have no doubt.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
The Bulls really have been playing much better ball in the last month. It reminds me of the first year Skiles took the Bulls to the playoffs(his first full year). The Bulls were just crap for the first two months, then in late december Eddy and Tyson started going off and the Bulls started looking like a team. Im excited that the Bulls actually are going to have a skilled big to run the pick and roll with in Miller, and while Thomas is certainly a me-first player, he can fill it up and had a lot of success after the Bulls let him go to Phoenix that year. And I agree with MaggsMaggs, they are probably going to run into a first round buzzsaw in Orlando, Boston or Cleveland, but you never know what might happen in the playoffs. Tyrus Thomas has become a double double machine, I actually sort of trust him with the 18-20 foot shot now, he seems to be getting the shooters touch nowadays(like he did last night when Carmelo fouled him).

Dayan Viciedo's nick - "The Cuban pimp"?
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 10:08 PM) Dude, he's from Cuba. He's straight. Now if he was from the Dominican........ I would just wonder why Cuba would want to lie about his age to themselves. This isnt as if he was trying to get a contract and he is lying about his age, he has been billed as a young superstar in the Cuba league.

LOST!!!!
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 08:02 AM) Ooh, good catch. What other unfinished business does Ben have? Nothing else comes to mind. I did like how they recreated the flight to the island. Sayid was the prisioner this time. Hugo had Charile's guitar case. Locke was Christian's dead body. It makes me wonder if Kate or Sun is pregnant to recreate Clair. Speaking of Kate and Clair, any theories on what happened to Aaron? My wild guess is that they tracked down Clair's mom. I also wonder where we will see the other dude in first class pop up. You don't see random characters in this show. He means something. kate and jack got busy after kate decided to go back to the island and made aaron disappear

ESPN to launch Chicago sports site
QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 07:38 AM) Thank the Lord. At least everytime- when this starts- when I tune in on ESPN, the talk won't be A-Rod, the Red Sox, the Cowboys, and Brady's ACL. LOL, thats what they want you to think. Keep tuning in, see if they change. Last time I checked, ESPN1000 isnt very chicago focused aside from 3 time slots. Everything else is syndicated "national" radio. ESPN Chicago is probably going to have a 5-15 minute slot for Chicago news and everything else will be what we see on ESPN regularly

Ex-Jenks teammate rips him in SI
QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 01:43 PM) I don't get the big deal about all of this...the Outside the Lines about Jenks back in 2004 (I believe) was 10 times worse than the stuff being reported in this book. I think its just one of those "out of left field" things that is just sort of annoying. Yet, the season hasnt started, so people need something controversial to talk about. Not really a big deal, and totally rehashed material

Ex-Jenks teammate rips him in SI
Wow, this guy made a generalization of Bobby Jenks life after spending less than a day with him. Can you say character assassination? WTF, this guy is chewing some serious sour grapes

Official Squared Circle Thread
QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 11:09 AM) Yeah, but they've never done it in any type of storyline. IIRC they've also never blatantly said it, it's always been assumed. Edge>Orton still. Edge still draws more heat, IMO. And better on the mic. I'm not saying Orton isn't over at all, but we'll see how over he is come Wrestlemania. To cement him as one of the best in the business he's gotta win...he just has to. BTW, who the hell books ECW? So we're gonna have Christian/Swagger for the title next week? really? that can't wait for wrestlemania? Maybe they are accelerating the process because Christian will be leaving ECW shortly after Mania? Give him the strap, let him lose it in Mania due to some sort of outside interference from another program, and Christian leaves ECW and goes to SD or RAW in the draft

Ex-Jenks teammate rips him in SI
B&B were talking about this yesterday. Basically the guy said Jenks used to show up hungover and fake injuries to get out of conditioning drills. Nothing earth shattering, we knew he had problems which is why the Angels let him go. He has been fine as a member of the Sox, thats all i am concerned about

2009 Sox Predictions Merged Threads
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 07:53 AM) No different than some of the predictions coming into 2005....with the team's chemistry totally changed and the offensive firepower of Magglio, Carlos Lee and Valentin all gone. I dont see that dropoff. Cabrera, Crede and Swisher are not the same loss(slugging wise) as Maggs, Lee and Stache. If Dye was traded, I would agree, but as it stands Thome, Konerko, Dye and Quentin are more than satisfactory

Official Squared Circle Thread
QUOTE (The Critic @ Feb 17, 2009 -> 03:04 PM) If by heat you mean that I can't decide if I hate myself for not changing the channel immediately or hate my television for showing that thing to me, than yeah, she creates heat. For me she creates Vince Russo heat or Jeff Jarrett heat. No way man, wrestling fan dont respond to people on the mic that truly suck(see: Orton, Randy. Before the last year). Watching her on the mic yesterday, it was almost overwhelming how much the crowd responded to her. I dont like her either, but I cannot deny the fact that she is doing well what makes heels succeed. Jarrett and Russo always rambled and ended up getting the "boring" chants, Vicki just gets the straight up hate.
