    Films Thread

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) I saw it yesterday and I'm cutting it some slack – probably more than I should – out of sentimentality. Certainly the last half-hour was way over the top, predictable, pretty bad etc., and it was more like than an Indy movie. But I thought the film looked like a Indy film should, moreso even than Last Crusade. last Crusade is still my least favorite of all of them, including the new one. I'll forgive most of the beyond-belief excesses of the action sequences with the exception of Everything else for me fell within the realm of suspendable disbelief for the sake of letting the story flow. I thought that they did handle the updating to the more contemporary setting well, maybe a tad heavy-handed with the McCarthy era red scare stuff and the nuclear age/Cold war imagery, but the whole franchise is modeled after pulp fiction/Saturday matinee storytelling as it is, so subtlety isn't to be expected. Not a great film, but not as bad as I figured it was going to be when I first heard they were doing a new film which I thought was a bad idea after so many years and after Last Crusde being as inferior as it was. Thats interesting to me that you find The Last Crusade to be the worst. Most of my friends find Temple of Doom to be the worst. I dont know, I appreciate them all in a different way(keep in mind I havent seen the new one yet). Raiders of the Lost Ark is more of a drama, thr Temple of Doom is more light hearted and fun, and the Last Crusade actually gives a little background on Indy and what he is about and why. I like them all, i hope I like the new one.
  2. Marcus Robinson retired as a member of the Bears today. Thats a pretty cool gesture http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3433703
  3. QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 07:51 AM) mike scioscia Why is this in green? Scioscia is a pretty good manager
  4. Wow, Navarro was a complete douchebag about that. I can imagine Garza getting pissed when his catcher is face-bumping him with his mask on http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280608113
  5. I wish we could dig up the response thread from when Kenny Williams said "It puts them(Detroit) in position to compete with us" after the Miguel Cabrera trade. Im sure there are some great quotes
  6. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 10:41 PM) Well, I think we keep Getz and Ozuna, as Ozuna can play pretty much anywhere. Richar and Uribe could be in a package together with better guys, as Richar still has potential so many GMs may look at him as a good prospect still. Keep Getz, just because if Beckham doesn't progress due to inability or injury, we have insurance. LOL, we drafted the guy 4 days ago, and now we have to keep a player for insurance in case he sucks?
  7. the Sun Times is so close to becoming their longtime idol, OK! magazine.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 10:22 AM) So is his role to come in during mop up time and give up enough runs to make it interesting? Its either that or Wasserman coming in to give up enough runs to lose
  9. I like the Bob Rohrman blooper reel commercial they have been running. For me, the commercials I hate the most are the Chevy commercials that are constantly run during Sox games because i see them sooooooo much. A few years back they had the American Idol commercials that drove me absolutely crazy, one was Kelly Clarkson and the other was that older guy, i cant even remember his name. Regardless, they both sucked hardcore.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) Hmm... The other day, a South Bend radio, or was it a TV??, station reported Paxson is on the short list to become AD of Notre Dame. That rumor was totally squashed by both sides. It was just speculation by a local South Bend tv station Billy Donovan left the Magic to go back to his original job, not for some other job. Aint gonna happen
  11. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 03:06 PM) I think this is the best baseball picture I've ever seen. ...... because Chipper Jones is in the picture meh, ive seen better pictures. A broken bat doesnt excite me
  12. Im not sad. this guy had no interest in the coaching job until the 1st pick in the draft landed in the Bulls lap. Collins hasnt done anything so special that warrants my vote of confidence for him(not that he needs it, lol).
  13. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 06:32 AM) I believe that, but I still believe you can't get anyone pregnant from the bottom... It's laws of gravity, it's impossible! Go ahead and prove it. Let me know how that works out
  14. Who cares about this article. There is a blogger who says The Sox should trade Carlos Quentin and bring up Jerry Owens because they need speed.
  15. I think the Sox will face Nick Blackburn 50 times this season. Didnt he get popped by a batted ball a week ago?
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 02:01 PM) Because BearSox says so! He needs not fact nor statistic to back his claim. Just hatred of life itself! I dont know if I would go that far. He is just very convinced that when he sees it and believes is, it must be true
  17. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 10:16 AM) remember the absolute panic around here during the meltdown in August/September '05? Wish I could read some of those threads again - they were Moronotti-esque! I couldnt agree more. According to this very website, the Sox were buried in 2005 and had no chance in the playoffs.
  18. QUOTE (quickman @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 09:39 AM) how cute was the mom? The camera wasnt focused on her, I didnt get a good look.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 10:21 AM) Yesterday night I was at the game, and there was a blond woman with a cute little girl with her, the girl must have been no more than 5 years old. She was wearing an authentic Royals Miguel Olivo jersey, signed by Olivo himself, along with a pink and white Royals hat, also signed by Olivo. Whenever Olivo would come to the plate, she would go crazy, dancing around, screaming his name, saying cute things beyond her age like "Hang in there, Miguel," after he struck out. It was beyond adorable. My friends and I sat there trying to figure out how this could be....how a girl that age could have a Royals authentic Olivo jersey, in that tiny little size, when he just signed with them this season. This was compounded by the fact that the woman with her, whom we assumed was her mother, was wearing a White Sox pullover. The only thing we could think of was that they must have been neighbors of Miguel's back when he lived in Chicago, or perhaps she was involved in some sort of program in which he did charity work. Either way, it was obvious that Miguel still keeps in touch with them, as he must have been sending them these signed Royals items. I must say, it was very heartwarming, and quite adorable. And to those of you who are thinking Miguel was involved with the mother, no, it wasn't like that. You could tell. She was on TV waving her sign before and after the homerun, she was a really cute little girl.
  20. QUOTE (TCQ @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 08:04 AM) Ruth may have faced inferior pitching but im also sure that he played a lot of games at fields like the polo grounds or shibe park or ebbets field where dimensions were over 450 feet to some fields. At todays fields Ruth would hit plenty of home runs, could you imagine if ruth played at Coors field? Can you imagine todays athletes running circles around his hotdog engorged a$$? You just cannot compare eras by saying "can you imagine if he hit in this park? He would have been awesome." And you cannot make the Bearsox gaurantee of 100 homeruns either. The game has changed, the athletes playing the game have changed
  21. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) link? Just search her name, or her real name Alexis Laree
  22. Is the distance of a homerun supposed to be measured by the straight line from the point of contact to where it landed? QUOTE (Shadows @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 11:49 PM) What in the hell?? Babe Ruth would get OWNED in todays game, get the hell out of here bearsox LOL Shadows, cutting straight to the point
  23. QUOTE (Shadows @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 12:56 AM) Did you guys know Mickie James has done some porn Yessir. And not too bad at that
  24. QUOTE (Nokona @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) I really doubt that. So then, what do you think happened there?
