  1. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 09:44 AM) Purchase and possess. If you have a gun in your home you need a FOID card. I'm not sure if all states require them, but most do. I'm fine making that federal though. And in terms of sales, in Illinois there's a hotline you can call and give a FOID number and they'll verify if it's accurate. That's also how gun shops verify that you are legally able to buy a gun. I don't think the two are exactly the same. You don't take a driver's test to prove you can operate a car, you take it to prove you know the rules of the road. But regardless, i'm 100% behind mandatory training/certification for obtaining a FOID card, which is the legal requirement to using/possessing a gun. I'm sure Alpha or someone who's more into guns than me can speak to this, but a lot of this is already in existence from my understanding. Yeah, you're not registering the gun and the buyer and seller information on a national database, but there are still laws that need to be followed. I'm not super opposed to your suggestion here, but again I ask at the end of the day what does it solve? We're having this conversation not because of random crime using firearms but because of mass shooting tragedies, the vast majority of which involved people buying guns legally. The fact that we can, after the fact, trace the purchase of guns this guy used just goes to show a lot of this registration.tracing stuff is already happening. It doesn't stop anything though, so you're just forcing the 99% of gun owners to jump through a hoop. Like I said, i'm fine with training/certification requirements because that's just a sensible thing to do. I'm fine with limiting high capacity magazines. You can have fun shooting auto/semi auto weapons somewhere. You don't need to be shooting 100's of rounds at a time doing it though. I'm fine creating some kind of gun limit - there's no reason someone needs to own 20 types of the same gun unless you've got some good credentials (e.g., you're a certified seller or a collector or something that can be proven). I'm fine increasing the penalties, both civil and criminal, for people who make straw purchases and/or people/gun shops that don't do any sort of adequate background checks. I'm absolutely behind banning any felon, undocumented immigrant and/or anyone receiving mental health treatment from obtaining guns. I'm fine with the various waiting periods on gun purchases. I'm open to limiting sales at gun shows, though I don't really think that's fair to the gun companies nor legitimate gun owners. So maybe more about tightening up how purchases can be made. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I believe in Illinois all gun sales require a bill of sale and you're supposed to keep that record for 10 years. Not 100% on that though. I'm fine making that a requirement if it's not. You should be able to prove when you sold a gun, what type of gun, and the seller. Taking a drivers test is both rules of the road and knowing if you can operate a car. If you are bouncing off the curbs and don’t know how to park etc, you aren’t getting your license.
  2. I just wish we could operate in between being able to stockpile 40 guns and thousands of rounds of ammo without anyone noticing, and “take away all the guns”. For 8 years everyone said Obama was coming to take all your guns and that was just false. I don’t think it is unfair to have some sort of system to insure that people know when someone is loading up on a bunch of guns and ammo like this guy did. Registry, cards, regulation, etc. something more than what is currently the status quo needs to be done.

  8. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) I'd rate year one of the rebuild an 8. From a talent acquisition standpoint, I'd give us a 9 or 10. In the past 12 months, we've acquired five-end pitching prospects in Kopech, Giolito, Lopez, Dunning, & Cease and four high-end positional prospects in Moncada, Jimenez, Rutherford, & Robert. In addition, they acquired another half-dozen interesting prospects in Basabe, Puckett, Gillaspie, Cordell, Clarkin, & Polo. Overall, I think Hahn did an awesome job moving his assets for value, demonstrating incredible patience that helped ensure his price was met. I'll admit I was a little disappointed with the Yankees trade (like everyone else), but overall it's hard not to be happy with the amount talent brought in. And this does not include the potential impact of the 2017 draft, which is way too early to evaluate but will hopefully be a strong one. Having said that, from a development standpoint I can only give this year a 7. Don't get me wrong, there were definitely many pluses. At the major league level, several key young guys came up in Moncada, Giolito, & Lopez and showed signs of what they will hopefully become. Guys like Sanchez & Leury look like legit major leaguers, even if they ultimately end up in reserve roles. Delmonico was simply awesome in his 40 game audition and looks like he might be a legit piece going forward. And this doesn't even include Abreu & Avi who both had spectacular years and could be part of our next competitive or be used to add more talent to the system. However, there were also some negatives this year and those start with Anderson & Rodon, two of our most important building blocks. While Tim definitely turned things around the last couple months, his overall 2017 season is very ugly. Not the type of result you want to see from what should be a key young cog and a kid that just signed a long-term deal. Carlos' season is disappointment primarily due to injuries. At times he flashed that legit ace potential, but he was once again inconsistent. As for the farm, 2017 was definitely a mixed bag. Kopech, Hansen, & Dunning made huge strides on the pitching side, while Adams & Guerrero had nice rebound seasons. Eloy was insane after he came over, Adolfo made some serious strides despite his flaws, & Zavala put himself on the map as legit catching prospect. Unfortunately there was still quite a bit of bad. Fulmer was a disaster, Burdi got injured, and several important positional prospects regressed in Fisher, Call, & Basabe. Collins had a mixed season, showing an incredible mix of power & patience for a catcher, but real bat to ball concerns. And the LatAm program continues to struggle IMO, providing minimal impact to our full season ball teams. I apologize for the lengthy post, but despite how happy we should all be with where the rebuild is at, I think it's important to highlight the player development issues the organization is still battling. Don’t ever make a lengthy, sound reasoning post on this website ever again

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 08:52 AM) Kushner still inexplicably maintains a Top Secret clearance Hundreds of White House emails sent to third Kushner family account Kushner is easily the most incompetent bad guy in the white house. He is the guy in a mob movie who gets killed in the first 10 minutes for being sloppy. Putin would have had him "accidentally dead" about 6 months ago

A guy I work with has season tickets for the Bears, and in the preseason he unloaded all of his preseason and 5 regular season home games to a guy who turned out to be one of Mitch’s associates. He told my coworker that Mitch will be starting game 5. Not “we hope he will” or “we think he will”, but he IS starting game 5. and here we are

  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 01:12 PM) If it were any other team, I would wonder if Trubisky isn't playing because the organization is tanking the season. But these are the Bears, so who knows. I honestly think they thought Glennon could be a caretaker, and get them through the season. (Trump face) WRONG

  23. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 10:33 AM) the only comparison that Gentry and Sanz have are they're both white UDFAs...that's were it ends. You realize that Gentry is 6-2 215...where Sanz was 5-10 and about a buck 85. Night and day difference from what I've seen. The problem (or one of them) with Fox is he's really stunting the growth of this team IMO. When Trubisky starts finally I want to see both Shaheen and Gentry in the lineup...let them build off the chemistry they had in camp coming in together. There was obvious chemistry there...whether people want to admit it or not...it's very important. I still for the life of me can't see what Fox sees in Bellamy? The only thing keeping Bellamy on the team is the fact that he is good on special teams. And IMO that is no longer a saving grace
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 09:00 AM) Glennon is horrific. Seriously, horrific "You cant put it all on Mike" -John Fox
