2015-2016 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 12:13 PM) I'll say this much, I'd have been thrilled if the Bulls brought in Jerry. He's got a good track record for running strong organizations. I've actually sat next to him at a restaurant before, seemed like a super nice guy based upon me and my dad eavesdropping on his whole conversation (he was telling stories about managers he had fired with the Dbacks, different moves with the Suns). Super interesting stuff, hence why we couldn't not listen. He even apologized to us for being so loud and we said, no please take louder, this is great, haha. They are bringing in Bryan to be GM, not Jerry. Jerry is president of Basketball ops. Nepotism And I disagree that Hinkie drafted BPA with Embiid. his injury issues weren't a secret and everything people said has come home to roost

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 09:46 AM) That's exactly what a sprain is, and while the term itself doesn't suggest it's any more severe than a broken ankle (I think most would just assume it wasn't) there are differences that actually make it worse. I personally know because I sprained my ankle badly last year. The X Ray was clear of any breaks, however the MRI showed several tears to ligaments and tendons. My rehabilition was for over a month and it took awhile to do everyday activities without pain. This was with a Grade 2 sprain that I recovered quickly from. Now, as a professional athlete with top doctors at his disposal who knows how long any DL stinct would be, but even for a less severe Grade 1 sprain Schwarber should be resting for a week or two. With how that looked and how he reacted, they will be really lucky if it is only 1-2 weeks

Marvel Entertainment Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 10:34 PM) Cloak and Dagger got ordered straight to series on Freeform (rebranded name of ABC Family). That is the pinnacle of Marvel gets to do what they want, when they want. At what point do they say "f*** it" and just make a channel? I think it will be a while before they make that leap, they need a lot more original programming

STAR WARS Everything
QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 11:07 AM) I sort of agree. If it was a random "action" movie with no tie to this franchise, it would be a hard pass from me based on the trailer. But, it's not. It's the Star Wars universe. I'll see it in theaters, but I have my questions and doubts. agreed, but as you said it is not. They didnt even need to make up a McGuffin, they have an actual piece from New Hope that makes this story work. I am pretty excited about this thing

STAR WARS Everything
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 07:45 AM) Given it's clearly canon, I doubt that as Vader was in his full-on Vader suit at the end of Ep 3. My first thought was Palpatine, but that f*** bows for no one. BTW, I am totally down with some new canon Star Wars films with Storm Troopers and amazing visuals and a fantastic story every year. Disney is clearly all-in on their $4 billion investment. Thank god they wrestled it out of George's hands

2016 Republican Thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 02:42 AM) How come when a Republican is called a monumental ahole (without proof) it's entirely acceptable and I call Hillary something like that and am attacked and told to offer proof or else. you say the same thing every time you talk about Hillary, which is frequently. If you said it once and that was the end of it then it would be a different story, but you are obsessed.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 08:11 PM) Sam Hinkie has resigned as GM of the 76ers. Makes sense. Colangelo was hired as Team President and he's most likely bringing in his son Bryan Colangelo as GM. I would have left to if I were Hinkie. Woj reporting that Hinkie hasn't even told his bosses that he is leaving @wojverticalnba Leaving the job and telling no one would be a fitting ending for Hinkie, who often frustrated staff under him with a lack of communication.

2016 MLB catch all thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 11:55 AM) The rule is stupid as far as I'm concerned and there was no injury risk. All we are doing is adding yet another thing to use replay for (which I personally hate in baseball). Unless it can be pretty much instant (like tennis does with in / out or in baseball's case fair / foul), I just find it all absurd. I'm a big believer in the fact that over 162, things will even out and I'd only have replay in the playoffs, where one call can have a much bigger impact on a series given the smaller sample size of the series. Game is already slow, we shouldn't be wasting time on replay in the regular season and while I think they should minimize true take out slides, going in hard and doing what Bautista did was a totally clean play. I realize people don't like subjective rules, but the rule should have been more subjective. You do what Utley did, rule it an out, but allow guys to go hard into the bag (without really doing much to take a guy out) should be clean and it shouldn't be reviewable, imo. Every freaking close play at 2nd base will get reviewed because some minor technicality can get it overturned. Its freaking awful. And yes, I still hate the rule change they did for catchers too. No, no it was not. He reached out and swept his hand under the fielders leg as he was throwing. Citing the slide rule was wrong, that was interference.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 5, 2016 -> 07:00 PM) Whether people ultimately would get behind him or not, I do not know, but polls support Greg's statement. He beats Hillary in every poll I've seen (could be one or two out there that I'm not aware of where he doesn't by some slim margin). It makes zero sense. This is like saying "this team that was left out of the ncaa tourney could have won it all". If they could have won it all, they would have been in the tournament

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 5, 2016 -> 01:55 PM) Don't blame you, especially when Kasich would win it all if he was the nominee. Weird. What does this nonsense even mean, the guy isn't even in SECOND in his own party. You think if he got the nomination all the sudden this wave of support would come out and give him the White House? You should stick to your Chelsea Clinton thoughts

2016-2017 NFL Thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 5, 2016 -> 02:18 PM) I tend to agree with you, that said intangibles are more important at certain positions. For example, I think intangibles and ability to read and react to a defense are a lot more important than measurables when it comes to QB. A QB has to do certain things to be able to succeed (i.e., I could be the smartest person at reading a defense on the planet but my noodle arm can't possibly make the throws to actually execute). But how often are the most physically gifted QB's the best actual QB's, not near as often as we think. Of course QB tends to be the one position I feel that way. I view intangibles as potential reasons not to draft a player vs. reasons to draft a player (i.e., the downside of intangibles keeps you away from a guy vs. the "upside" which I feel is just gravy). No one would ever say that Tom Brady, Drew Brees or Peyton Manning were ever the most physically impressive QB's in the league, but they over the past 15 years, they were arguably the most successful. On the flipside, Kyle Boller, Matthew Stafford, Jay Cutler, Jeff George, etc were absolute physical specimen (even someone like Kaep is physically extremely gifted as it comes to QB's). Some exceptions to this rule are Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre, who clearly were amongst the most physically gifted and best QB's in the league (and Cam can join that group if he continues to do what he's done lately). That said, what sets the best QB's apart is there ability to read defenses, make quick decisions, and throw accurately (which is a physical skill). As long as they have "enough" arm, they will be fine. But the read defenses and make quick decisions are critical and even the throw accurately is followed by throw to the right spot (so not only making the right decision on who to throw to but where to throw to them based upon the coverage, etc). Hell, when you look at Brady, Brees and even Rodgers, they all got significantly better between college and the pro's. There is definitely a balance. He just comes off as a guy that would scratch a guy off the board because he heard one coach say that the guy wasnt a coachable guy, regardless of his on field results. Sometimes you gotta draft an asshole
