Hinrich exercised his 2.8 million dollar option

Taj's ankle surgery really f***ed things up for his value here. Its like Deng with his wrist injury(and not getting the surgery for it), you have this guy who should be worth much more than he is, and you end up dumping him for pennies on the dollar.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 28, 2015 -> 03:06 PM) Would someone please report back on what Ventura says at post game press conference. Baseball package does not get that stuff. "Well we worked on those things....I thought he had good stuff still......tough loss.....yea I didn't want to take out Putnam because he was pitching so well.....tough loss"

QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 03:34 PM) interesting thing about all of this.. Nothing in that article quotes anyone from the whitesox organization saying anything about trading alexei... Though the title says "white sox willing to part ways with Ramirez," and then absolutely nothing to back that up is said in the article. Oh yea, every organization sends someone out before the trade deadline and says "We are willing to part with this player"

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 02:11 PM) Yeah I never bought that. It became opportunistic for him to learn that black people like their children just as much as white people (his actual epiphany). How do you come from a place where you truly believe blacks are inferior and unequal and shouldn't be in the same room as you to the complete opposite? He was in his 20 and 30's too. It's not like he was a brain washed 8 year old growing up in a racist house. People change. Neither you or me will ever know if he ever really felt that way, but i can tell you right now that I certainly dont think now at my age(37) the same way I did at 20. You dont buy it, thats fine. But you are presenting Byrd as an unabashed unapologetic racist who never repented, and Obama went and eulogized him -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 01:52 PM) Shoot, we still give passes today. Like with this asshole: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Byrd Proud KKK member and Obama had to, i'm sure out of professional obligation only, eulogize him. I remember all those long stories and op-eds about him. Oh wait, no he was a democrat. Seems like he recognized how wrong he was and at least attempted to rectify it. He also acknowledged that he made a bad choice and would have to live with it his whole life -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 11:51 AM) You have to make deals that make sense at the time. Even now who replaces Alexei if traded? I do expect the Sox will listen to offers. Now if Tim Anderson is ready or we are willing to put up with a season or two of youthful mistakes ok otherwise wait. But, don't trade just for the sake of some move so complainers can be placated. Heck we could see this team torn apart every year they don't win the world series if you bow to the demands of some rabid fans. One I do think might get offered around is John Danks. But, we know his contratc will be an albatross See, this is where you are wrong, it isnt about complainers. It is about getting whatever value you can out of a drastically underperforming player in the last year of his contract. What does holding on to him accomplish? The mistakes he is making are worse than a youthful mistakes, he should know and play better. Tim Anderson probably wouldnt come up, i could see them going with beckham or sanchez the rest of the way. Regardless, Alexei's contract and play are both very heavy albatrosses on the white sox this season. This makes all the sense in the world, the Sox arent going to have Alexei at SS next season

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 06:59 PM) Nerlens/Okafor will be deadly next year. Sixers could make the playoffs (yeah, i know, the east) just off those two. The "assumption" part i mentioned referred to Embiid. I agree with the Sixers having a lot of talent
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 06:55 PM) hahaha@phil and the knicks. Sam Hinke is an OG. The Sixers collection of assets is now unprecedented. assuming Embiid is ok. I wouldn't assume that. But they still can be much better

I thought weight was an issue with Okafor as well

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 02:03 PM) And how many different pitches can Price throw for strikes? Carlos needs to be able to throw that change-up with command at least 7.5-12.5% of the time to be an elite starter. Petricka up in the bullpen. He isnt comparing Carlos to Price of right now, he is comparing him to Price in his rookie year.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 11:16 AM) I just don't see Lakers actually competing this year and I think they need to build for the future. Cousins is young and has a few years left in his contract but his contract his huge. And like you said he is a knucklehead that will be playing in LA with no real stable head coach to keep him grounded. Okafor and Randle are both young and pretty cheap and our good players to build off of. You don't have to start them together for defensive purposes. Also they said Clarkson would be involved and he is no slouch either. He is young and getting better as well. Need to build a team and not trade away 3 good assets to get one all-star player that won't carry your team. He also takes away money for free agency. Cousins has a chance to be an absolute monster. Hell, he already is. Just yesterday on the score they mentioned his 24-12 season stat line, he has done that twice already and he is in truly elite company and he is only 24 years old.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 09:59 PM) Phil has said a lot of dumb things since being President (frankly things that a FO should not say about other players), but on the other hand he's made the correct tough decisions to shed a bunch of salary and perform a proper rebuild. I'm not so sure he won't succeed in building a playoff team. We'll see how he drafts. Obviously his coaching choice as an abject failure but I'm not sure that was an easy job to fill. I don't agree with him forcing the triangle, but he has shed a lot of s***ty money.
