  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 08:17 AM) Man this thread is petty. yea it got out of hand fast
  2. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 06:46 AM) He said he was healthy. Doubt they would have pitched him the last day of the year if he wasnt. Im sure he is a healthy scratch. Because that totally makes sense in a pitching needy team, to scratch Mark Buehrle
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 12:29 AM) I've been paying a lot of money to the city lately. Just had to send in my registration fees for the car. Along with the money for the ticket. do you hear that sound? It is the worlds smallest violin playing the worlds saddest song
  4. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 06:53 AM) Yeah, he deleted it and made his Twitter private, so now it's like nothing ever happened... Internet doesn't forget terrible tweets, if you really want to find it you can
  5. I thought Yoenis got that
  6. I could see this KC squad lighting up a sore shoulder Buehrle just as easy as they did to Dickey

i remember going to the Carbondale theater to watch the Re-Release of a New Hope and it was crazy, people were all dressed up, the age range was from small child to middle age adult (some elderly), and the place was PACKED. For weeks, they pulled in that crowd every weekend. On movies that were 20-25 years old
  8. Maddon had his weekly call in to Goff & Speigel and said that he will not change the starter tomorrow regardless of the outcome today.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 12:39 PM) It was implied that I was asking for some kind of comment in response, but fine, I didn't ask a question. I also wasn't like "oh boy you guys are such nerds!! Dumb dumb dumb!" it was implied QUOTE (juddling @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 12:45 PM) I had to be 7 or 8 when we went to see the original Star Wars. I remember liking the movie but my biggest memory from that day was it was the first time I was allowed to salt my popcorn myself...and damn did I blow THAT job. I remember it was like eating a salt lick. Just thinking about it now, makes my blood pressure rise 30 points. this is hilarious
  10. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 11:24 AM) I think having a healthy Avisail Garcia with some learning experience time will work out for the Sox. He has a ton of talent and I think he is willing to do what is necessary to improve as a player. Why throw him out to pick up a castoff? Plus I think Trayce Thompson may very well be in contention as the 4th OF'er or a starter, if the team moves around, or changes, the DH role Because Avisail is starting to look like a castoff himself
  11. i thought Keith was an adamantium bones hockey robot
  12. QUOTE (shysocks @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 09:17 AM) This is not specific to the Cubs, but I caught the news this morning and I have a complaint. Why are we still interviewing people on the street about their team? Has anybody in the world ever given a s*** that the guy waiting outside Wrigley for SRO tickets says the Cubbies are going all the way? I give a s***
  13. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 09:08 AM) What was said? WHAT
  14. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 09:10 AM) that is exactly my point. because a team went over/under on a pick means nothing in isolation about whether it was dumb/smart/cheap/aggressive, whatever. thats not quite the same as "who cares how much you spend on any one player"
  15. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 09:06 AM) so what is the right strategy then? strategies change with drafts, there shouldnt be a blanket strategy for every draft. Sometimes special talents are identified that you have to shell out a little bit more money than you anticipated, and you have to lowball other picks in order to retain the guy.
  16. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 08:58 AM) In the draft now you have a set amount of $$ to spend. so who cares if you go over/under on any one pick in particular as long as you use all the money you are able to. because this could affect negotiations with a later pick, thats why teams care
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 05:20 PM) But are they good opinions in your opinion? They are obvious opinions, captain
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 03:41 PM) So answer my question: Do Sox get a wildcard this past season if we had Madden instead of "I run a loose spring training camp and don't teach bunting or fundamentals" Robin Ventura? Remember Minnie almost made the playoffs. I say with Madden we were IN. John Madden would be too busy saying "BOOM" And the question is not really answerable
  19. I keep hearing "Its gonna be in the 70s this week and the wind will be blowing out, and that will help the cubs". Last time i checked, Cespedes, Wright, D'Arnaud, Granderson and Murphy can hit some home runs as well
  20. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 02:32 PM) Losing two on the road is not the issue. Relying on Hendricks and Hammel to win two games is the problem. Again it is hindsight because of the Arrieta magic in August in September as well as the bullpen performance in the playoffs. Their two aces lost games. That is who they relied on, and came up empty. They should have come back 1-1 at the least, and then you wouldnt have to worry about Hendricks and Hammels
  21. John Fox press conferences are polar opposite of Trestman. Not fun, not accidentally informative.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) I agree and disagree. The cubs are going to be good for a long time, and this was "a year ahead of schedule". But, lots of stuff happens in seasons like injuries and random horrible years that can derail a season. Getting to the CS is sooo close that you don't want to rely on the fact that the team is young, because you aren't young for that long. Take it when you can. They've had a lot of good luck this year with Arrieta's run and good health. But, after this year of lester I think they probably will sour on Price signing. Granted, price in the NL is probably a 36 win pitcher with a .4 ERA. At least that's what it seems like when you make the switch. Absolutely agree, you cant take anything for granted. I just dont think the Cubs pitching is the sole reason they are 0-2 right now, and you cant say that a pitcher like Hamels or Price( for a hefty return that would have probably included your current starting short stop) would have changed the fact that they are 0-2 right now
  23. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 01:04 PM) If the cubs do not make it out of this series it is a valid conversation. At the time it was 100% the right decision. In hindsight and that is all this is, another arm better than Haren would have helped. Arrieta going on a historic run could not have been foreseen. If JS goes on that run for the White Sox they could be playing now and everyone would be b****ing they did not get a bat. The cubs issues for next year are getting the right pitchers at the right price. They are out there, the issue will be who is paying what. The price tag on Arrieta may hurt the off season maneuvering for a free agent pitcher as he is going to break the bank. come on now, this team is set up to contend going forward. What is happening now is 100% gravy, not expected. Mortgaging a guy like, say, Javier Baez(who was the major name on the block) would have KILLED them right now after Addison Russell went down. Theo did a masterful job, sticking with his prospects and getting an arm like Haren was absolutely the right thing to do. If this was the end of a percieved playoff window, then yea, sitting back and doing nothing is inexcusable. But calling into the score to rip Theo while your team is in the NLCS as a wildcard team is just pure fan stupidity
  24. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 12:14 PM) I DON'T GET WHY PEOPLE DO THAT. GO NINERS DERP GIANTS The guy we are joking about was SOXOBAMA, and everything was caps, and everything was a bit crazy. he got a bit exposed as a liar
  25. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 11:59 AM) We used to have another poster on here was keen on San Fran. Per chance do you have an affinity for classic cars? lmao AustinIllini doesnt post in all caps, dead giveaway
