NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 01:21 PM) I don't think you need Twitter or Facebook or a camera phone or the internets to realize Michael was gettting a little at every port. How much did Magic's HIV diagnosis kill his likeability? How did Tiger Woods infidelity kill his likeability? And Magics HIV briefly alienated him from the NBA, nobody wanted to come near the guy. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 01:29 PM) MJ is still prominent now. Do you really think he's changed his ways much? He is nowhere near as prominent as he used to be. He pops up in Hanes commercials and every once in a while he is seen out with his wife. HE was a serious player back in the day, the press knew about it but didnt want to lose quotes so they just didnt say anything about it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 01:06 PM) The local media probably would still have given him the reacharound, but the national media would have torched him on many occasions. For example, punching out teammates at practices. his gambling and infidelity would be huge stories. TMZ would have people waiting around every corner for him

It would be interesting to see how Jordan would have been perceived if he played today in these days of instant news/reaction/social media. Something tells me it would have been so favorable

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 11:04 AM) Agreed. Amy Smart never did much for me. Hope she doesn't screw it up. I liked True Detectives as well. Woody and Matthew together was better than the case so far. Hope it stays good. Her character was terrible in Shameless. What a short, weird storyline. Even for that show

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 01:21 PM) Justified Officially Ending With Season 6 Sucks cause it's a great show, but it's nice to see a show not stick around too long. Speaking of, it was just announced that Newsroom will end after next season(season 3)

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 01:54 PM) Isn't that what happened to Carlos Boozer? IIRC he tripped over a bag or something weird and broke a bone in his hand

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 03:10 PM) Holland is a very weird dude. I wonder if Texas's front office believes this. How many of us here have ever needed surgery after falling in the house? My beautiful grandmother did when she was 76 but other than that it seems to be only athletes. Remember when the Bears DL Bryan Robinson broke both wrists at home falling down the stairs because of his dogs? That was bizarre

2014 Catch-all Anything thread
i was playing basketball with a friend when I was around 12-13 years old. He had a adjustable backboard, and loved putting it on the low setting so he could dunk all the time, and he just abused it. We used to play 2 on 2 all the time, and the sidewalk leading to his front door was the 3 point line. He shot a three and hit the back of the rim and the ball shot straight up in the air, and my friend ran up and tried to grab the rebound and dunk it in, but he just missed the ball and grabbed the rim and pulled on it. All I remember is looking up at the ball as it was in the air, and then it felt like someone punched me in the forehead. I took three steps and fell in the grass facefirst, and when i lifted my head there was a massive pool of blood. My friend finally broke the large spring underneath the rim and it shot off and hit my square between eyes, and the screw/nut that held it in place hit me in the bottom lip. I got 7 stitches in my forehead and one in my lip. One inch to the right or left and i would have lost an eye. The jagged broken end of the spring is what hit me. When I looked at it i couldnt believe how lucky i was

Man, Matthew McConaughey's character in True Detective is really strange, even for him. I really like the start of that show. Also, you can really see his weight loss from Dallas Buyers Club, his face is really thin

Personally I think they need a pretty strong personality and disciplinarian as HC. Schwartz let the inmates run the asylum and it ran right into the ground

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 08:41 AM) I'm glad Whisenhunt didn't end up in Detroit. Could have been a great match. Apparently they are really liking Jim Caldwell.
