QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 08:45 AM) In fairness, I've never actually watched one. Do I really need to though? If you are into a movie like that, then sure. Kind of silly to call it a bad franchise when you never watched one, though.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 08:36 AM) What does success have to do with quality? Most top grossing movies are bad. Ryan Gosling seems like an actor more concerned with the craft than being rich. I said that and agreed with that. I think the F&F movies are better than you do though. They are what they are, drag racing tongue firmly in cheek unbelieveable action popcorn movies, but they arent bad

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 08:06 AM) He's got a good point in that the 3/4 DT is really tough to find...but you could also say that just maybe he doesn't want to play his hand before signing or drafting that guy. I agree, he could definitely make the switch if he feels he can slip the personnel into the scheme in one swift offseason

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 07:57 AM) I've seen Drive. Ryan Gosling is not going to make the 7th or 8th movie of a bad franchise. Gosling isn't broke, right? Maybe he'll do Fast and Furious and then do a couple Final Destinations too. Maybe they can get Steve McQueen. He's not doing anything and he made Bullit. It isnt a bad franchise, that is a very successful franchise. It may be corny and unbelieveable, but it is a complete cash cow. I doubt Gosling would be interested because he is more of an artsy (read: Nicolas Winding-Refn muse) actor.

Dan Hudson Non tendered
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 07:56 AM) Cooper already decided he didn't like the guy once. His arm motion is both his success and his downfall. Cooper called that out right away. Hudson is a good pitcher when healthy though

Fister? Damn near traded her!
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 07:18 PM) I would take him over any pitcher on the Sox not named Chris Sale. That's awesome

Fister? Damn near traded her!
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 07:14 PM) I wouldn't consider an established #2-#3 type guy as a project. That's like saying Jose Quintana would be a nice project for another team's pitching coach. Only difference is Fister is most established, so Q would actually be more of a question mark. Would have, as in earlier in his career, when he wasn't established. He is a nice pitcher but he hasn't tapped his potential yet.

Fister would have been a nice Coop project at some point. Very Garland esque

People want Zooks recruiting, not his coaching. My snake oil comment is in reference to his ability to sell U of I on some pretty good recruits. Kiffins "snake oil" was himself

Twins Continue To Improve Rotation
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 04:12 PM) Maybe I'm just remembering some time that we pounded him. I didn't realize his ERA was 4.18. He actually pitched pretty good against the Sox(who didnt?) http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...t=p#oppon_extra

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 04:13 PM) Absolutely, but boy do they make a lot before they flame out. Oh yea. Thats the crazy thing about Kiffin to me. At no point in his career did he have a really successful season. I suppose 2012 was pretty good at USC, but they really fell off. But the Raiders, and Tennessee, and all of the recruiting violations that followed him around, and all of the crap that came along with him. You would think somewhere along the line he had an incredible season buried in there.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) "Isn't that bad" is a nice way of putting it. He is a more than serviceable 4th starter.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 03:38 PM) Whoever hired Kiffin was a moron though, so not too much credit to them. As bad as a coach as he is, it really is astonishing the climb that Lane Kiffin made at two seperate levels of football, using basically his daddies good name. The guy is a supreme snake oil salesman

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 02:43 PM) If you were ever going to transition from Cover 2/4-3 to a 3-4, this would be the year for it. Emery keeps saying it is not going to happen

2013-2014 NFL Thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 02:53 PM) But going into the season we knew our dline was super thin. You aren't going through an nfl season without injuries to that position. And we need to keep our guys fresh. I think Wootton and Peppers could still be good players but not if they are playing 100% of snaps. We are trying to rotate but it's with garbage players off the scrap heap. It didnt help that the guy they signed to help with depth decided to retire on the first day of training camp(Cedric Ellis). They really got screwed right away on D Line. They have been in street guy mode all season at DT, and were sort of lucky that Ratliff became available, and I only say sort of because the Bears had to wait until he got healthy to play him.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 01:26 PM) Well, he wasn't Leonardo. I thought he was real good. Then again, my standards aren't the best. Basically for me as long as I can't tell you're acting you're good. Channing Tatum? He's all kinds of awful/terrible. He was pretty good in Magic Mike and 21 Jump Street. Especially 21 Jump Street, that movie was hilarious.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 01:00 PM) The only thing that scares me about the Bears under Trestman is they are giving off a sort of Cowboys vibe. A talented offensive team with a bad performing defense and makes stupid ST plays and penalties all over the field, good for 8-8 every year. And we have Jay Ratliff. Its kind of funny that Dallas took Marinelli and their defense has also been historically bad. And for the most part they have had it intact, at least not to the injury numbers the Bears have experienced

everything about this season has screamed transition to me, so Im not going to get overly worked up either way. As fun as the offense has been to watch, the defense has been that brutal. Things need to be fixed, but we all knew eventually the bottom would drop out of this high scoring defense sooner or later. Unfortunately the offense popped one season too late. Emery will have a very interesting offseason ahead of him. Many decisions to be made in personnel

Sports Media discussion
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 09:53 AM) Anymore Chicago sports radio isn't intelligent. It is more say something controversial to get people stirred and maybe generate some calls. Ignore anyone with something intelligent to say, and put the guy on the air who is going to say something stupid. If they say something intelligent, take it out of context, or twist it into something else. It is basically reality TV on the radio. It is an insult to anyone with a sports IQ. It isnt all like this

2013-2014 NFL Thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 08:31 AM) I agree...the reason we have gone backwards in those situations in the past is because of the conservative nature of the calls in the past. We've tried to run between the tackles there and haven't been successful. However, call a play that isn't so vanilla but yet isn't quite a gimmick play. As you say, call a rollout for Josh, or run a flip 90, or any number of plays where you're not doing what the defense expects, but at the same time, there isn't a high degree of difficulty in executing the play. This goes to what Duke and Jake said previously. I don't have as much of a problem with the 4th and 1 decisions to go for it in the past, I just haven't really cared for the play calling in those situations. I still really like what Trestman is doing; I just hope he is taking some notes and learning this year. I think he is for sure. He seems to be intelligent and confident, but not afraid to correct a mistake. Lovie was intelligent and confident, but too stubborn to acknowledge that mistake and correct it. To say he is conservative is just wrong though(not saying you are saying that, shack). Hell, most of the time we have b****ed about his decisions this season is when he is going for it on 4th down. The offense is tremendously aggressive, there is just a few issues(short yardage situations) that need to be fixed. The passing offense is a thing of beauty though.
