  1. I'm not saying that this doesn't do good things for the Sox in terms of the standings, because it certainly does. I'm not saying that these games weren't fun to watch, because they certainly were. I'm not saying that I didn't have a blast attending the Sep 3 game, because I did. But what I am saying is that we beat up on a team that was 15 games back. That says nothing about whether or not our offense can match up against playoff opponents, that says nothing about how we'll do against teams that actually have good pitching. Let's not get overconfident here.
  2. We swept a losing team. Let's not get too excited. Tomorrow is much more important than these games. And this entire month, save perhaps for the Cleveland series, will pale in comparison to the Los Angeles of Anaheim games. If we win those, which is far from certain, then maybe you can get excited.
  3. I guess we could wait and see how the Sox do in their series against Vlad and Cy Supersize, but the Yankees seem the weakest of our potential first-round opponents. That said, Mussina and Small have given us fits this year.
  4. No way. The lead is too close to the number of games we have left with Cleveland. I think the mantra for Sox fans in terms of the WC should be LET'S GO YANKEES.
  5. John and Ed have been very, very loud members of the "Don't Boo Magglio" club; they repeat over and over again that people leaving for more money is just how it works. I wonder if Rooney had personal interest in putting such an idea into the heads of Sox fans.
  6. He seems to suffer from a lot of tightness, though. A future "injury prone" guy?
  7. Reality check: 2-0 does not a "strong September" make.
  8. I'm disappointed to see this turn into a Farmer/DJ hatefest. Personally, I look forward to DJ/Farmer, though I don't think that will end up happening. Still, I feel we haven't heard the last of "Uh oh, Bye Bye!"
  9. Dude, its the Tigers. Don't get too excited.
  10. If that was intentional, I'm disappointed. At least take out his knees.
  11. Sosa used to do it for Cubs/Sox games at the Cell.
  12. Now that was the player who excited all of us in Spring Training.
  13. Against Seattle in 2000, at home. They swept us. It was a sign of things to come.
  14. I got an autographed Bob Howry rookie card for 99 cents on eBay. I kid you not.
  15. I'll take the atmosphere of Konerko taking Grienke deep over the atmosphere of Santana no-hitting us any day. Any day.
  16. I don't actually get why people don't go to KC games. When I go to the Cell, I go to see a White Sox winner. That means that when there's a game I think the Sox will lose, I don't attend unless I have free tickets. I specifically pick my Sox games based on the chances of victory. That's why I don't go to the BOS or NYY games, and why I deeply regret spending $13 on an Oakland game. KC is a big bang for your buck ticket for me, because not only are the Sox probably going to win, they're also probably going to win comfortably, depending on the matchup.
  17. I'm going Sep 1 and 2, probably a bunch of other times as well. If they do well in Texas and if they do well Sep 1-2, I'll definately be going to more games. But I'm not going to pay Uncle Jerry any money to see the second coming of the 69 Cubs.
  18. Todd Ritchie and Royce Clayton stand out in my mind. Though Ritchie is more to be pitied.
  19. I have nothing against the states of North Carolina and Alabama (especially North Carolina, that's a nice place with a great history), but I do think that the Sox could do better in non-Chicagoland Illinois and Indiana, and I think that putting affiliates out there would be a key component of that.
  20. Hip Hip Huzzah for Korea. What a wonderful country.
  21. What I'm really looking forward to is all the cracks at Buck that Farmer, Rooney, and Ozzie will be making during this series.
  22. I read an article on pitching mechanics in some magazine a while back, and it essentially said that most scientists believe that the human body is not capable of throwing a baseball higher than 101.9 MPH. Its simply the way our muscles are built. Of course, you'd think that people with perhaps more highly built muscles would be able to overcome that, but the article was pretty confident.
  23. As others have pointed out, Sexson/Jenks was just a bad matchup. I attended that 16-inning game, and after that I absolutely believe in Jenks. I'm so happy we finally have a true power guy on this team.
  24. Remember back when Dustin Hermanson was our closer?
  25. Most scientists will tell you that 102 mph is physically impossible.
