  1. My favorite Yankee, along with el Duque and Brosius, from those late 90's teams.
  2. I wouldn't seriously vote DJ, but "uh oh, bye bye" entered my vocabulary way faster than anything I've ever picked up from an announcer.
  3. Hawk has always been a big apologist for the front office and for underperforming players and busted prospects. I hate the "You know, I think this kid is going to be just fine" comments he does when a guy just up from AAA pops up for the 10th straight time, or the "You know, I think this one is going to be different" thing he did before each 5th starter last season. I know radio/TV guys can't outright attack the front office that employs them, but Farmer and Rooney at least criticize the team sometimes. "That ball needs to be caught", "that play has to be made", etc.
  4. The 2000 team owned baseball's best record for a while. What did that get them?
  5. Anyone catch Farmer's story about the red-tailed hawk? He was talking about how he was playing golf and a large red-tailed hawk perched on a tree to his right. He said it was large and that it "disturbed the branch" on which it was sitting. Farmer then said that the hawk was "looking for Mr. Squirrel". Rooney asked if he found Mr. Squirrel; Farmer replied that "Mr. Squirrel went for a ride." I love these guys.
  6. Jeff Liefer hit a grand slam for the Indians yesterday.
  7. I typically read it during the school year because somebody leaves free copies on some of the tables at one of the dining halls. The sports section is virtually the only part worth reading.
  8. He had a strong relationship with the White Sox, move it if you want, but I'm posting it here.
  9. Neal Cotts was a lot better in Yankee Stadium this year than 2003, I think. I hope that's not a controversial statement.
  10. Reminds me of 2003, when Esteban Loaiza and Bartolo Colon established themselves in New York. Mark Buerhle should have in that series too. Of course, neither E-Lo nor "Colon smells like Pennant" ended up with any postseason hardware.
  11. There are a lot of Timo haters on this board. But I don't believe what I'm seeing -- they're attacking him after he was one of the only guys in the lineup yesterday to do his job at the plate. Timo Haters, show some respect.
  12. Then I hope you got your Timo hate in yesterday, because it looks ridiculous today when he is the top offensive performer in this lineup.
  13. BTW, Timo haters. He's batting 1.000 today. He's doing his job tonight, unlike the rest of this team.
  14. The Yankees are showing us that they're still the force in the AL. Or, rather, they're showing us that they can hit an old man around and that Mike Mussina can still pitch.
  15. Dolgin pointed out the similarity between this and the ad where Rowand meets the devil.
  16. Oh the cycle story I have... I went to a Red Sox/Marlins interleague game in 2003 at Fenway. The Red Sox scored 10 runs before the first out was recorded, a new MLB record. In the FIRST INNING (which lasted a full hour), Johnny Damon and David Ortiz completed 3/4 of the cycle. Damon was a HR short, Ortiz a triple short. Needless to say, Damon never got that HR, Ortiz never got that triple. It was hilarious seeing them try, though. Also, the Red Sox fans left in droves after it was obvious the game would go into the wee hours and the result was certain, so I had front row seats behind first base before I too left early at around midnight.
  17. 2001, the Carlos Lee walk-off grand slam against the Cubs.
  18. This is the media, folks. My guess is that if the A's stay on fire, Harden gets it for being such a big part of their success.
  19. Today, I got to the park around 1:30, and I was so happy when I learned that seats in the back row (literally) of the Upper Deck were still available. The people around me were mostly great, except for two Cub fans who would stand up and high-five each other every time a Sox batter made an out. But from the Aaron Rowand catch on, they were cheering for the Sox. I think I saw bandwagoners born. Ah, the miracle of nature.
  20. Fun Fact: As somebody on the postgame show mentioned, tomorrow we unveil the Fisk statue...and if the Sox win its #72.
