QUOTE (fathom @ May 8, 2009 -> 06:15 PM) Honest question...are you watchng these games? It's rather obvious he has nothing left in the tank. 91 mph fastballs with no control and a mediocre slider just isn't going to get it done. Maybe make him a righty specialist on the pen? I'm watching, and I agree with you, he doesn't belong out there. He's done. I'm just saying I hate to see him being reviled by fans like he's the pitching version of dweezy. He's been a stud for this club, just not in a long time. Blame williams, ozzie, coop...but not him.

verlander with a CG 2 hit shutout.

seems a little harsh for a guy who's done so much for the organization, a guy who busted his ass to be part of this team from day one. i'm not saying i want to see him pitch again, i'm just not ready to ride him out on a rail.

we are getting owned by a guy with an era over 6. for the second time in a week. i hate you nate silver.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 8, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) Gross...he's another terrible player that has no business being on a MLB roster. The options should be Poreda, Whisler, or Torres. If you don't reward the players who are performing in the minors, then KW is a freaking hypocrite. he's a starter by trade, not a reliever. you drafted him with a first pick - at least give him a chance.

I wouldn't mind seeing Broadway get a start.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 7, 2009 -> 10:08 PM) We shouldn't have given away game two of the series the other night. That was disappointing. They are on a roll right now. It's Zack-mania in KC. Sox are already 4 games back. s***. Hope the angels can slow them down, maybe be 2 back after the weekend.

i think it is a fad. like the pant legs wore down over the heel. Upton stumbled out of the box yesterday, tripped by his own pants. I say bring back the leggings.

GM Ken Williams criticizes pitchers for not protecting hitters

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ May 7, 2009 -> 11:36 PM) My thoughts exactly. When you recipricate by hitting their players does that ever stop anything? Will that permanently keep them from pitching inside? Nope. It pretty much just says that you care more about trying to make a statement that you desire to defend your player (which doesn't actually defend your player, just instead brings a respectful game to a childlike level) than trying to win your game(s). There is never any real benefit from hitting another teams batter in response to them hitting you, however there are always cons to hitting their players. It may be part of the game, but that doesn't mean its worth doing. you're right - they should just keep turning the other cheek. If KC or TEX wants to keep beaning the Sox then the Sox should just take the high road and not retaliate at all. The tradition of standing up for your players may be over a hundred years old but it's high time we bid hi-diddly-bye to it. -
Although it's early, Buehrle getting the Cy Young
The Ginger Kid replied to wilmot825's topic in Pale Hose Talk
it's easy to get too excited -- it was a feel good game and a much needed pitching performance, one that hopefully sets the tone. No one wants to follow that up with a stinker (right, Jose?). -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) Derek Fisher and Rafer Alston receive suspensions, no time off for Kobe or Artest. Kobe's was moved to a Flagrant 1. well deserved for d-fish. that was out of character and completely uncalled for. it's so funny watching the lakers trying to be "tough" after they got their asses knocked around last year by Boston. It's not in their nature to play tough physical basketball. I sooo hope the Rockets go up 3-1 this weekend. Can't stand the talk radio out here one more day. -
Ozzie with his usual empty threats after loss like this

QUOTE (shakes @ May 7, 2009 -> 03:39 AM) And also really untrue. I have been a member of both boards and I don't get the hate. I have never seen venom spewed about this board over there? There are some really smart Sox people over there, and some really great Sox historians. And if you follow the rules you will not get banned, regardless of your opinion. There are some people ,on both boards, that are really outspoken and at times obnoxious. But, thats been the case on every message board I've ever posted at. Afraid this just isn't true. I posted over there years ago and was banned when Mags signed with the Tigers, because I said KW would regret this decision to not sign him. A mod banned me. I didn't use foul language or attack another poster, just posted an opinion (which, of course, proved to be wrong!). Mods on power trips are a drag, anywhere you go. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 7, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) To me he's a hall of famer. The guy was easily one of the best two to ever play the position for a long period of time and that makes you a hall of famer, imo. Plus offensively he had some pretty productive years in Cleveland. I would be stunned if Omar isn't a first ballot HOF. I didn't even think it was a possibility that he wouldn't be.

Ozzie with his usual empty threats after loss like this
The Ginger Kid replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think Ozzie's greatest strength as a manager is that he absolutely, positively HATES to lose. None of them want to lose, mind you, but not many are willing to reveal the depths of their anger and frustration like Ozzie does, or even Pinella. Some might criticize them for mirroring the feelings of fans; I applaud it. -
QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2009 -> 09:17 AM) Agreed, it will be interesting to see if they start dropping dead like wrestlers have. Have they? I didn't know that.
-
I'll be very interested to see what happens to the players from this generation in ten years or so. Will they go the way of Lyle Alzado? Are there truly long-term effects from steroid use that will come to pass, or will it prove to be a false scare tactic? Would be sad and sobering to see a bunch of big-name players from the last two decades start dropping like flies in their 40s and 50s.
