QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 11:24 AM) I'm with Sqwert on this one. I didn't ask anyone but my wife to marry me. This is our life. I find the whole asking the father somewhat silly anyway. To me, it's completely shallow/fake "respect", and I say this as a father of two daughters. What are you going to do if he says no? Walk away? Doubtful. Odds are you're going to marry her anyway, showing this to be nothing more than a fake respect thing in the first place. I dislike fake. First of all, if you have any doubt in his answer, you probably shouldn't be asking in the first place, for one reason or another. Both my father in law and my wife found it very respectful. Maybe it's not for everyone, but some people really appreciate it.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 10:21 AM) More fuel for the fire regarding Hawks recent stance on sabremetrics. http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/blog_art...arls-of-wisdom/ Ignorant. Hawk speaks to the casual fan, always has and always will. He's one of the old scouts in the movie Moneyball. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 10, 2013 -> 06:53 PM) I took advantage of the free one week trial, no credit card provided at the Illini Scout site. If anyone wants info from the articles or private message board, let me know. If there's anything on there worth letting us know about, certainly would appreciate it. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 09:52 PM) Agree... When I went to a game last summer, and was shopping at some of the sporting good stores, there was a complete DEARTH of Sox merchandise, compared to Cubs. If it wasn't for the gangsta rappers wearing our hats, we'd have nothing to feel positive about, lol. Obviously, they were prepared to market Beckham as the new golden boy and that fizzled out. Konerko has never been marketed outside of Chicago. Only by respectful media/announcing teams who always hype him as the most chronically under-appreciated/underhyped star player in the majors. Losing Buehrle and AJ hurt, there's no denying that. But there's just not a lot of passionate Rios and Dunn fans out there. The 2009 and 2011 seasons really hurt Alex with the fanbase, and Dunn's story is well-known and chronicled. There's an appreciation now of Rios' overall game, but not to the point where many would go out and buy his jersey. The only jersey I would buy would be Viciedo or Sale. After that, I'd probably buy a Courtney Hawkins jersey. I own a Brandon McCarthy jersey, and I know someone that owns a Joe Borchard jersey. Don't do it, at least not for a long time. Although I did buy a Buehrle jersey in 2001 before anyone had one (his brother told me at a Cubs game is was the first one he had seen and asked me how I got it), and that worked out OK, but it's really rolling the dice.

There are so many Beckham jerseys out there. Opening Day they were everywhere. So many people stuck with a bad jersey from years ago.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 09:55 PM) Yeah, why are they being so nice to each other this year? Is it because it's so early in the season and the grind hasn't set in yet? Or did they hash things out? http://www.southsidesox.com/2013/2/3/39468...etter-broadcast Just saying that your post wasn't exactly valid going by last year's broadcasts, those were a brutal listen. -

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 11:17 PM) Why is this such an issue for you? I've laid this out before and I'll do it again. Last year the agreed upon plan if Patterson made grades is that the Zeller's would pay Cody's way and he would come off scholarship. That could again this year, but probably won't. Creek will graduate and is not contributing much. He is one option to free space (and that is done all the time, especially in football so I'm not sure why it would be a big deal here). Jurkin has an injury that may be chronic. He's missed more basketball than he's played in the last 3 years. If his situation doesn't improve, he could leave/medical leave/or whatever. Austin Etherington completely blew out his knee for what is my understanding is the 2nd time. He may never be able to play again. Oladipo is already gone. Others may transfer out, especially if they think the new kids coming in will take minutes. Right now, IU's scholarship situation is not nearly as dire as someone that is uninformed may think. There are several ways they can get to the number. Conversely, last year, every one was scratching their heads trying to figure out how they would fit Patterson in, except those inside the program which had a plan in place. I'm much less worried about this year than I was coming into this year. And before you act like it only happens at IU, the same thing happened at Louisville last year. Kyle Kuric paid his own way to make room for someone else and he was a major contributor to that team. Find another subject please! Crean's ability to coach? -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 07:35 PM) Anyone notice how much Hawk has eased up on the umpiring this season? I love that they use pitch trax so Hawk doesn't have to go "where was that pitch" 25 times per game, and be wrong on 24 of them. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 09:44 PM) The merchandise aspect of marketing for the Sox is pathetic. You want to try and get people excited about someone like Sale? Well, then you should be selling his jerseys throughout Chicagoland. If you go somewhere like Sports Authority, you'll definitely find Konerko jerseys and might find someone like Peavy, Rios or Beckham if you're lucky. Hell they didn't even have them at the park last year. Chicago Sports Depot had Thornton jerseys, Humber jerseys, still didn't have Sale jerseys, and it was July or August. That doesn't make any sense.

Chicago White Stockings vs. Montreal Expos

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 06:30 PM) I would. Well, I did. It missed the zone completely. Strike 1 and one of the balls were at least touching. Which means the ball itself could have been millimeters outside the zone. Apparently every ball that isn't a strike "isn't close" Also, by definition, any part of the ball "touching" the zone is a strike. -

QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 06:24 PM) What happened there with the balk? He started his motion. He was trying to step off the rubber, but stepped off with his right instead of his left, which is the same way you start the windup for a lefty. Easiest balk call ever. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 03:19 PM) I don't know how much he gave up on it as he just received it poorly...he had a tendency to do the same when he was behind the plate for us...for whatever reason he seems to backhand that ball for whatever reason and I felt that we lost some calls last year because of that... Also, watch Nathan...he gave up on it too...his reaction is the best part of the entire video, IMO... Receiving it poorly is giving up on it. Backhanding it is fine, just stick it. Taking it to the ground was the issue. Nathan gave up because of how Pierzynski received it.

QUOTE (My_Sox_Summer @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 02:04 PM) Once again, if a fan is using PRICE as the only reason they don't go, they shouldn't sell out. It isn't only price that affects sales, it is many factors. Of course I know why they sold out. Bandwagon fans. People trying to make a buck. And our fan base. Then why the f*** are you attributing the "low" attendance over the weekend to ONE factor? Congratulations on owning yourself. How do you know all the families that said "prices are too high" weren't there, and it was the other people, that didn't say price, that showed up?

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 06:57 AM) Just watched the replay. How does that get called a strike? MLB needs to sanction that ump if they want the umps to continue to have any credibility with the teams. It's a ball, but that call barely gets attention if Pierzynski receives it correctly. Pierzynski absolutely turned that into a ball and made it look awful. Perception is reality, and catchers can help or hurt themselves when receiving pitches. Pierzynski gave up on it, which is enough to make it a ball. Even had that caught the zone, you still should ball it. It's shocking that Pierzynski would give up on a curve ball that could possibly end the game and didn't miss by THAT much.

QUOTE (My_Sox_Summer @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 11:19 AM) What about winning DURING the season? That is what the Sox did all season (till the end) and there was still attendance issues with a first place team. It was blamed on price then, but of course playoff tickets sold out (which a much higher price tag). Bandwagon makes sense, doesn't bother me at all. The only thing that bothers me is the fan complaining about something, it get's changed and they still don't show up. You don't understand why playoff tickets sold out? Is it really that hard to understand? As far as "they still don't show up," again, 3 games in April. But hey, jump to conclusions however you want.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 07:08 AM) I wouldn't even call it that entertaining. The officiating was the worst I can remember, and the defense wasn't much better. That wasn't an entertaining game? LOL, right. Good luck watching basketball the rest of your life. Enjoy Indiana HS I guess. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 05:26 PM) The World Series title told me it was bigger than I thought for a long time. We averaged over 36k in 2006. They are there. Still doesn't prove anything, because what's the surplus? There's not a big margin of error. Of course there's 36k Sox fans out there. But after that? What do you draw from when when it's not the post-world series win season?
-
There's also just not a lot of White Sox fans when you're talking about trying to draw 35,000 a night. It's not like it's a giant fanbase and everyone says "no" to going to games.
-
I think it's respectful, not an outdated tradition.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 04:48 PM) It's weird to see a moderator of a Sox fan site take such a strident view against Sox fans. I wonder how many games he makes a year?
