  1. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 27, 2008 -> 09:52 PM) God, could you imagine if they had had to call the game? Last case scenario certainly, but the controversy would be unparalled. I guess you have 3 options at that point, none of them good: 1) Call it at some point, world series ends with 3 at bats left in a one run game. 2) Play through it on an unplayable field that gets worse, would be a joke of a game. 3) Wait it out as long as possible and hope it lets up a bit enough to improve the field a little and play through the rest of it, no matter what time that is - and it's already 11pm eastern time. All of these options suck. Mother nature almost completely f***ed everyone. I mean, this is still a mess, but at some point, this game will continue with a better field and better weather - it just might take a long time to do so according to the forecasts.
  2. Rays tie it up = best possible scenario, at the perfect time where the field finally became truly unplayable.
  3. There's no way in hell they would call this an official game without 9 innings being played. Not with a 2-1 score to end the series, even if they had to wait until 4am to play it, etc. Umps are stuck between a rock and a hard place here, I can see why they've played through it. Any delay much earlier, and they wouldn't come back for hours upon hours.
  4. Learn the words to the National Anthem. And then don't suck at it. Wow.
  5. Selig doesn't control the rain. Also, Longoria really had no chance but to see if that ball goes foul, he had zero chance to make that play and should have realized it as he charged. Poor defense all around that inning. What a bizarre last half.
  6. I've been saying Seabrook's overrated for a long time. He just doesn't seem to be progressing. Others bad: Buff (am I the only one that never bought into him?), Sopel, Hendry. You know what would be a great idea? There's this kid in the minors...what's his name...Barker or something? Maybe he's worth a look.................................. Positives that should be noted: Bolland, love his game, true battler. Johnson has been solid for a 6th dman, in theory. And that really has nothing to do with the fact that he's potted 2 in 2. Toews needs to score. Soon, and then hope they all just pile in. Sure, this is a team that would have gotten smoked by this talented team not too long ago, but you still had a 2 goal lead going into the 3rd. Need a better result than that. And no Habby was not mediocre by any means, that's way too strong.
  7. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) i will say that penn state is not going to beat ohio state. penn state has been a nice story thus far but they've played no one. ohio state's win over michigan state trumps any of penn state's wins.
  8. At the start of the year, this Thursday tilt between Auburn and WVU looked like it could be a pretty decent top 25 game. Now, it's just a major letdown game between teams who have sucked.
  9. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 22, 2008 -> 10:25 PM) Hawks absolutely dominated tonight, in really every aspect of the game. Made the Oilers special teams look like total ass, and controlled the tempo for almost the whole game. Impressive W tonight. Still waiting for Byfuglien to show up..... PK was huge, I thought all those s***ty penalties we took would eventually haunt us. The lower D guys, Walker, Hendry, Johnson, all played well. Crowd was really loud tonight, even with some empty seats. Pretty good for a Wed crowd.
  10. Lots of the same, first time I watched them for sure, and sometimes after: Miracle Rudy Field of Dreams Saving Private Ryan We are Marshall Good Will Hunting
  11. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 08:22 PM) OPEN BAR :headbang Seriously Steve, do what I said. You'll thank me later.
  12. QUOTE (The Critic @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 08:30 PM) Canadiens are wearing white at home tonight, the way it f***ing SHOULD BE. I'm really tired of the dark uniforms at home - leave that s*** to football. Agreed. I still think of the Hawks whites at the Stadium, sucks that it changed.
  13. QUOTE (The Critic @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 12:59 AM) I won't watch an inning. I couldn't care less who wins this if I tried. I'm a baseball fan, so even if I don't care who wins in a particular year, I will watch. I've watched every world series since I was like 5, not gonna stop now. Same goes for any sport I'm a fan of. I don't care if it gets good ratings - doesn't affect me. The 'draw' of a Boston-LA world series, or some other big market combo, is irrelevant. It's still the world series, same as any other year.
  14. I don't see how wearing jerseys will ever go out of style...unless teams stop wearing jerseys? You can argue that the older you get, the less you'll wear them, but there will always be a younger group to snatch up the new design. It's one of the best ways to show your support of your team, so I don't see how it's a 'fashion' that would disappear. And jerseys are getting more stylish and hip, are they not? And Critic, I'm with you on hockey jerseys. I have a lot of them, they are sweet to wear.
  15. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) i will say that penn state is not going to beat ohio state. penn state has been a nice story thus far but they've played no one. ohio state's win over michigan state trumps any of penn state's wins. Penn St could easily beat OSU, this game could totally go either way. They both played Wisky on the road. Margin of victory: OSU 3 Penn St 41 And who the hell has Michigan St played??? Javon Ringer is nice and all, but not much there so far.
  16. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 11:20 AM) Admittedly, I didn't watch the game that closely... but from what I did see, it did look like they were playing less dump and chase. Considering our team is small and agile (at least our talented players are small and agile) it makes sense for them to carry the puck over the line than to send them in to get their heads banged in. I'm posting this in response to Rock's comments last page as well. See, dump and chase isn't necessarily an offensive strategy that teams rely on every single time, or close to it. Does any coach say dump it in on a 3 on 2? No coach is a dump and chase coach, and no coach is a 'carry the puck in' coach. Every single situation is different in a hockey game. There are systems, but of all games, hockey is the game with the most reading and reacting. That's really how you play it, within certain system limitations. It's all about what you have. If you don't have numbers, and if they are standing you up near the blue line, you dump it in and make them turn from backwards to forwards, go chase it down, and beat em down for it. It also depends what team you are playing, and how well their D can get to loose pucks and make outlet passes. Who's the current D pairing? How are they stacked? Who are your other forwards? Where are the backcheckers? Shift length? A well placed dump is many times better than just 'carrying it in.' Carrying it in doesn't mean instant offense, or even a better chance at scoring. Sometimes carrying it in makes no sense at all. Is it a cross corner dump? Soft dump to your own corner? High off the glass around the net? Make the goalie play it? Lots of options. A team that has no clue how to dump and chase and forecheck well has no chance of winning. You also obviously dump it in when you need a change, which happens a ton of the time. A lot of fans at games get excited for some sort of rush, only to be confused when it's dumped in and they change. No use carrying it in, even with even numbers, when you are gassed coming back the other way. With Q you are still going to have a 1-2-2 style forecheck much of the time and clog the neutral zone. They've been forcing teams to dump it in a little more than earlier in the season, and seem to be creating a few more neutral zone turnovers. With Campbell and Keith, I don't mind having them force the dump in a little more, because with as good of skaters as they are, they will get their first hopefully with enough time to make a pass or start the rush. The d has also rushed a little more and pinched in the offensive zone with more regularity. Reason they can do this, I believe, is that they've had more support near the puck carrier the majority of the time.
  17. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 10:23 PM) Rays Phillies might break the record for least watched WS. Who gives a s***. No one watched the Sox/Astros series either, did that seem to matter?
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 10:13 PM) This seriously blows. It's almost a must win when I go on Wednesday... Absolutely, positively nothing is a must win in October by any stretch of the imagination, unless you are an employee of the Hawks that is worried about your job. However, 2 points in a game would be fannnnntastic.
  19. QUOTE (The Critic @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 05:28 PM) I agree that Bernstein could be dialing it up for the show, but he also seems to carry a smugness about himself. He's not a likable character, at least the character he presents publicly. He's smug because he's pretty much always right when he's dealing with complete idiot callers. If i dealt with some of those assclowns all day, I'd have the same attitude. I love how Bernstein carries himself on air. QUOTE (The Critic @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 05:50 PM) Very true, and just for the record, I really enjoy B&B's show. I find it funny a lot of the time, in large part because they are such jerks. I just don't take any of their opinions very seriously at all. It's just a schticky afternoon radio show to me. It's MUCH more enjoyable than the Mac, Jurko and Harry show. That show is just weak, and Jurkovic is the worst radio personality in Chicago by a mile. When Bernstein wants to talk about the nuts and bolts of a particular game or sport, he's as good as anyone out there. It doesn't happen every day or every hour, but it's there. I love B&B, more the Bernstein than the Boers. Boers doesn't add nearly as much to the show, Bernstein carries it.
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Oct 11, 2008 -> 10:34 PM) When they let Perreault just walk away, I knew it was going to hurt. He is arguably the best faceoff guy ever, and we could definitley use him. Oh well. Need a win Monday. I'd rather lose 1000 faceoffs in a row than have that waste of space on the roster.
  21. QUOTE (Shadows @ Oct 11, 2008 -> 10:39 PM) I dont even know what he is talkin about with Illinois For the other Illini fans on the board, did any of you expect anything better than another 9-3, 8-4 season this year with our schedule? Thats what I had us figured for, I don't know who he is talkin about that thought Illinois was winning 10-11 games and fighting for a National Title spot Illinois should be primed to have their best year next season, that's what I have been holding out on I expected us to lose 4 games...Mizzou, PSU, Wisky, and OSU, with the possibility of squeaking one of those out. Minnesota at home is a terrible loss. Like I said earlier, we're now looking at perhaps a 4-4 big ten record. That Wisky games looks more and more winnable by the week, which could have gotten us to a 6-2 big ten record with a win today. This loss completely changes the direction of the season, IMO. All the momentum from last week's big win is gone, and we're looking at a much s***tier bowl game.
  22. QUOTE (danman31 @ Oct 11, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) And neither is Illinois. Give it up. That was an embarrassing loss by a team that isn't as good as people thought. Speaking of teams who aren't as good as people thought...Mizzou
