Official 2008-2009 College Football Thread

QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 07:36 PM) I'm not blaming the BCS. The BCS got it right. Oklahoma has the best resume of the 3 and they are in the lead spot for the national title game. I'm just saying the tie was so deadlocked that there really is no way to determine that tie without it being something stupid/insignificant. If this tie happened in the ACC or SEC it would also go to the BCS. There simply is no 'good' way to break this tie off the field. Big 12 teams playing for a spot in the national title game are 4-5 in the Big 12 title game. Fair enough. I've heard people blaming the BCS, which is completely pointless. And yeah, you have to break it somehow. This way to break it essentially used the voters, and they say Oklahoma. -

QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 30, 2008 -> 11:18 PM) It's the 5th tiebreaker. 5th. Link Find me a better way to determine this tie. Point differential? Yeck. Also, funny thing that I'm hoping happens. Mizzou beats OU in the Big 12 game somehow. Argue how Texas goes in ahead of Tech. It would happen, but that's a pathetic argument to make. The BCS isn't meant to break ties in conferences before all games have been played, it's meant to get #1 and #2 together. Blaming the BCS is ignorant. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 04:23 PM) You'd think. I'm all for a playoff system of about 8 or 16 teams, but in the current format is where these smaller schools have a better chance at a higher final ranking IMO. In a playoff system generally the outliers are eliminated. 16 teams? God no. The college football regular season is epic, 16 teams would make it close to pointless. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 05:53 PM) Yes, if there was no tipping then the bar would have to give more base compensation to the people who serve you which would make the beer price go up even more. As it stands right now, the increased cost of alcohol comes from the operating cost including taxes, licenses, etc that have been rising every year. Its hard for people who havent been in the service industry to understand the jobs that these people do, but its a thankless job that is based on tipping. The entire compensation is based on the assumption the server will earn tips. If there were no tips, a bartender who works their ass off all night at a bar would bring in about 40-60 bucks a night, which would mean the bar backs would probably make less, and the bus boys and so on. Is it not true bartenders can pull down a few hundred dollars a night in tips on busy weekends? Or is that just college towns? And yes, if the beer is already $6 I don't need to tip every time for turning around to grab a beer and taking the cap off. You know how much they pay per beer, and I'm pretty sure they make a lot off the $6 already. Plus, it doesn't always guarantee they'll get right to you anyways next time through, which is crap if they can actually distinguish from the non tippers.

People upset with the Okla-Texas result need to be mad at the Big 12, not the BCS. -

True, but that game was sloppy. So many chances to tie it up and take some sort of lead, and they couldn't do it the entire 2nd half. -

I think the fact that he painted it and wrote his name on it is by far the best part. It's like the kid in 2nd grade that steals the other kid's ruler, scratches out the other's name, writes his own on there, and thinks there's no way someone will figure it out. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 10:33 AM) When Buff leaves, the toughness on this team takes a s***. He doesn't finish half his hits. Once in a while he runs into a guy, then disappears for another week. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) Oh, I've noticed the attendance, you cant drive down my street anymore on game nights. Frankly the new breed of fans are a bit annoying. But its good for the team, so im all for it. They are beyond annoying, especially the lower you go in the arena. -

Nylander isn't the right deal. But I really hope Buff goes sooner than later. He's fat and lazy, and his potential in my mind is a decent 3rd line winger. It's been obvious I don't like the guy, likely never will. Sell high(ish) -

QUOTE (Dan @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 10:36 PM) Jeff Hamilton is rippin' it up for the Wolves. I have always been a fan of the guy and thought it was a mistake to let him go. He'll be a pretty good AHL player, he was pretty decent with the Hawks for the one season, but he's just not cut out for the NHL, especially as he's getting older. He's also been injured almost the entire season. -

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 01:30 PM) Because that's what this team needs right now? The Hawks are 2nd in the NHL in scoring, behind only the Wings. On top of it, Nylander isn't just going to be a salary dump for the Caps. They are going to want a solid player along with Bulin. Is that going to be Barker? Skille? Bulin is taking up a lot of space, but he is also playing out his f***ing ass, and has put this team on his back. I would still like the Hawks to acquire a 2nd line center. However, Nylander is NOT the answer. Tallon has f***ed this cap enough. Adding the 35 year old Nylander for 3 years is going to be fantastic. The window for this team is just starting to open. If Tallon jumps the gun and acquires Nylander, you might see that window close a lot sooner than it should. I agree with your entire post minus the first sentence. If you think they will finish 2nd, or even near it, in NHL scoring, you see this team differently than I do. We're still 1.5 top 6 forwards short, which really means we're 2 short. But everything else about Nylander is correct. f*** no -
QUOTE (sircaffey @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 06:00 PM) Without Morneau, god knows where the Twins would have ended up. Probably behind the Tigers. He's the AL MVP in my mind. How s***ty your team is should have no affect on the award. If Pujols was on the Pirates, he should have still won the MVP.
