  1. I'd like to see how they rank the Wrigley scoreboard. Really it could be anywhere from 1 to 5 On one hand, it's old and classic. It's hand operated. That's oldtime baseball, it's pretty cool. On the other hand, it provides almost no info on that day's game besides maybe an average or when a guy last had 3 hits in a game. The lack of stats on players is irritating, but that's how it is with an old scoreboard.
  2. Or too far back on the terracel level, where you can't see a baseball that goes higher than 20 feet in the air

    same with cwsox
  4. this maxim survey is bogus. unless i am shown otherwise, i have to assume that because it's a maxim poll, only readers of maxim were polled or responed to a survey. therefore it is not a random sample, and is nowhere near an accurate representation of the public. in order for it to have validity, the sample has to be random. i wish those numbers were correct, but some of those are way way too high
  5. Once we are done with the Drays this weekend, the schedule becomes brutal It's gonna be put up or shutup time. No "the schedule is tough" crap. You want in the playoffs? Go beat some playoff caliber teams.
  6. bump (with updated sig just for cwsox)
  7. I was laughing when he stumbled over us cellular field...he's like "whatever it is"
  8. Tim Hudson doing his best Rich Harden impression
  9. .... where did Alomar win a ring? With Toronto? 1992 and 1993 with the Jays Hmmm...good call. Hopefully he can instill some winning spirit in these guys. It's not a matter of knowing how to win -- it's a matter of going out and doing it. WTF? Magglio's arm sucks. That throw to 3rd base from RF 3 hopped to 2nd base. Hopefully he wasn't trying to get the runner. Don't dare forget those great Toronto teams. Hell, one of em knocked out the sox in the ALCS
  10. Ah, the magglio we all know and love And you should have said you just do it in your head off of game stats, very fast. Woulda looked like a genius.

  17. The wave started because the game was pretty boring in that the Sox had maybe one baserunner or two after the third inning. After they crushed the ball in the first three it appeared they lost interest. The players in the dugout were cheering with the wave. I think to some extent it shows interest and is like the whistling at Hawk games, a way to tell the players to get going. Oh geez, the whistling at Hawks games...now i can't get it out of my head. It's not as bad as the wave, but it's a Hawks trademark i guess. It's certainly only a few people providing a distraction instead of thousands. I don't think you'll ever see a wave at a Hawks game
  18. Work always gets in the way. ESPN radio 1000 today

  20. Thanks cwsox - Definitely wanna see a game at the Big House at somepoint. I also sent you a PM, reply when you get some downtime, it's pretty long
  21. So Bradley gave them one back with his bad baserunning and it evened out. The baserunning isn't the greatest, but who would have thought that the Sox would be 4th in the league in pitching and tied for third in fewest errors commited? Everyone was screaming that they couldn't go anywhere without good pitching and defense. Now they have that. They just won four in a row, and instead of finding a way to lose last night (like they were doing all year long), they found a way to win. Instead of Everett's single landing in the third baseman's glove, it went for a single and gave them the lead. Instead of that long fly ball in the 8th tying the game, Everett caught it on the track. Instead of Hafner's hit going down the line and tying the game in the 9th, Paulie grabs it for the out. Why dwell on the few lowlights? They are in a very weak division with lots of games left against the team in first. The pitching is the best it has been since the first half of 2000. The bullpen with the exception of Koch is stabalizing. The defense has improved greatly over the past couple years. If the bats keep coming around and some of those shots like last night find the gaps, they will score a lot more than 4 runs. Good points. I guess why i'm so upset over base running is because it's the easiest thing to correct and one of the most coachable things. It's mainly a mental thing whereas everything else is physical. Mental errors are unacceptable in my book. Physical errors happen. I guess that's how i'd explain it. If guys were getting rocked on the mound, i wouldn't label them as stupid and get as upset, because that happens. But as most coaches will tell you, there's no room for mental errors. Also, when i played i was a really good base runner, it was one of my strengths, and i just don't think it's really that hard to do well. It's just frustrating. And as far as Bradley goes, unless he ran through a stop sign, that's the 3rd base coach's fault.
  22. It was loud in the bleachers. Stay out of the upper deck, that is where all the quiet people like cwsox are. I hate the wave, but I doubt that it distracts or bothers the players. I am sure they are happy to be playing in front of crowds for a change instead of a small gathering of family and friends. Well, maybe i'll go bleachers some more games. I'm usually upper deck. However, the wave started in right field if i can remember correctly. Crowds don't necessarily have to be extremely loud, but i'd like to sit somewhere where the fans are into the game and are more knowledgeable than most (sit 300 level at Hawks games, huge difference than 100 level) I really don't care who is around me and what they know. I know the game and so does my friend Huge. We are loud and into the whole game, keeping score including pitch counts. What others do is their problem. There just aren't that many hard core baseball fans to fill 30,000 plus seats, some people just go to have fun, see fireworks, eat, etc. I have no problem with them as long as they are not standing and blocking my view during the game. This is why you see a difference when it is 15,000 as opposed to 30,000. The 15,000 that are out there when it is cold are the die hards that hang on every pitch. When you get 30,000, the good majority are people there for the entertainment more than the game itself. Relax and enjoy the game. Ya i see what you are saying. Usually i go with friends and we talk some good baseball and pay attention the game. I used to bring a little clicker thing to track pitch counts, but now they have it on the scoreboards on the baselines by the foul pole - i love that addition. Probly only matters to 5% of the people there, but for thos 5%, it is greatly appreciated. I don't mind those people unless they are a distraction from the game (people standing up and eating and ordering food in the middle of a bases loaded jam - happened during sox/cubs games too many times). And the wave is certainly a huge distraction from the game. And for 30,000 people last night, i'd say about 25,000 were participating in that wave. Boooo F.Y.I. The pitch count they have on that board is always 1 or 2 off. Whoever runs it doesn't pay attention. Maybe he is doing the wave. Good to know. Maybe they should let a good fan run it every game or something. However, 1 or 2 off isn't bad and doesn't make a huge difference. It's definitely nice to have.
