Well, I don't like to think of us as the supreme being, afterall like you said we did come from monkeys, but we are superior to all other animals. If they were superior we would be in zoo's. Our inventiveness has allowed us to demonstrate ample 'ownage' over any living animal on this planet. What put us above the rest...the thumb.

s***, for 20 bucks I'll set you up with a desperate freshman from my school.

Perhaps they won't survive. It takes a certain degree of intelligence to pass on your genes, or a round of cold ones and a woman who likewise has had a few beers of her own.

Factor in that there are millions of them and we humans have provided them with the perfect environment. As for their pre-human life, they have hard shells and probably ate decaying animals and small shrubs after the meteor blast that killed many other species.

Actually, IMO the best part of the movie is the honeymoon night announced by Howard Kosell and ABC's wide world of sports.

My friend gave me a web-site that supposedly shows it. It was linked to the discovery channel, I didn't bother to look, too lazy.

I recommend reading the book "the king of torts" good criticism of the tort system by John Grisham.

Its good during the season if you want to stay up to date with scores and such but it is more like mlb propoganda than journalism. Hence the newspaper exists, with boxscores, standing and columnists.

If they were smart they wouldn't keep going to that hotel behind my grandma's fridge.

From what I have heard, the chances of a planet creating life are the equivelant to a tornado going through a junkyard and assembling an airplane. (I didn't make that up, a science teacher told me, and yes it was a public school teacher, but no it wasn't a discussion about God, so you can put the ACLU credentials away). I believe that there probably is life on another planet, there is a good chance that life has existed else where in our own solar system (mars), so that shows that it is likely life does exist elsewhere. But who's to say that if they are intelligent that they don't have a religion similar to ours. There is so much stuff that seems improbable but can happen. As far as 6 days being 6 days, even though it probably wasn't like that much of the bible is made up of miracles, so from that viewpoint it is possible. Like I said, I believe God was more of a catalyst of the big bang and such. Earlier I mentioned that I don't beleive it to be possible for the entire earth to be flooded and Noah somehow was able to summon all of the animals and such. I once debated this once with a friend who is a hardcore religious literalist(not sure if that is a word, but he takes the bible literally). When I said that it just couldn't be possible, he pointed it out that if God does interfere with our lives, than it would be entirely possible. I still don't believe it though. Just a quickie on guidelines in the bible, I read recently that every male shall wear tassles on the four corners of his clothing

Thats the only way CW will ever appear on Fox.

Bad move. As a Nets fan I think this is a bad day. I was at the game yesterday and the Nets blew the meek celtics out of the water. Granted getting swept on the road was unacceptable, but Scott has always found away to get these guys hot when they need to be. Last year for example, the Nets were slow down the stretch, then caught fire and rattled off 10 in a row in the playoffs. Scott is a good coach, and firing him doesn't address this teams needs. If this has anything to do with the turbulent relationship Scott has had with J.Kidd that would be a shame, as great as Kidd is, the needs of the team have to come first.

Just out of curiousity, what were you on tv for? btw, congrats

By the way, for those interested in why things happen and whether or not God has a plan for us, I recommend seeing Signs. Very good movie.

I agree to a certain extent. While a lot of the ceremony may be useless, I believe the concept of church is very important. My education has been the opposite of yours, I have never attended a catholic school. So without church, I would know very little of the bible, and the life of Jesus Christ, I would be lacking the knowledge to form my own beliefs. I also believe that the church is an important place for peace, where one can worship in peace. While my beliefs are very different than that of the catholic church, and every other church for that matter, I still believe it is important to go to church. I am hypocritical though because each of the last three weeks when my dad woke me up for church I said screw it and went back to sleep

You have summarized the creation of religion--as a way to discipline citicizens. But is this how modern religion was created? I apologize for not knowing who actually wrote the original copy of the bible, but did they do it just to discipline citicizens? Did the church rise to such a powerful height simply because rulers had new questions that needed answers, or because they wanted discipline? I don't know. But I personally do not think so. I think that Jesus existed as the son of God. Based on what you have written it seems that you are more interested in God's purpose, which is understandable. And you said that it seems religion doesn't hold much depth especially God's plan for us, the only analogy I can think of is this: if you were to summarize parenthood to a 5 year old, it might seem sort of shallow, because it is impossible to convey what it is really like to someone so young. Such is religion. It seems almost impossible for God to tell us the divine plan or why he exists and such, because without knowing what God's life is like, how could we understand?

I love that movie. Definately one of my favirotes. "This trial is a travesty. It's a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham."--Fielding Mellish (Woody Allen)

I am not familiar with "42", what is it? I can not speculate on why some of the worlds brightest are religious, but perhaps it has to do with the simple question of who created the original piece of the universe, whatever that may have been.

I am undecided as to whether or not I believe in purgatory. That is something that you can't really think through. Either someone tells you there is and you believe it, or you don't. As for hell, I believe in it mostly because how can you be accepted into heavan if you don't believe in it.

Your right, nice job picking that up. It was Escobar and I believe a pitcher (schrieber or something like that). The Mets also got Jason Middlebrook from the Tribe I think.

I really enjoy this thread, I wish I didn't have to study for mid-term exams

Its the family part that bothers me when I think of nothingness.

I agree and disagree. I agree that religion has been used as simply a source to answer that which we can not otherwise answer. On the other hand there is so much that can not be proved by science that seems to imply their has to be a creater. It is my choice to believe the Christian God is the creater. For example, I have heard and believe that the big bang created the universe. I have heard and believe that the big bang was the explosion of a ball of densely packed molecules. But where did that ball of densely packed molecules come from? My point is that everything has to come from something, and something had to create that original thing, and I choose God. (just don't ask me who/what created God ). Being a realist I find it hard to believe in something without looking at it from a more logical standpoint. For example, I don't believe all the stories in the bible to be true. I do not believe that a flood covered the earth and all but noah and the animals he somehow managed to fit in a boat died. But I do believe in Jesus. I don't think that somebody from this time frame would claim to be the savior for attention, and if someone did, they would surely be called crazy and would not be taken seriously. (And I don't believe Jesus is a fictional person since most agree that he was alive, the question is was he really who he claims to be). So to sum up my points 1: logically it seems impossible for their not to be a creater. 2: Though some biblical stories may only be symbolism, much of it is true, especially the new testament.
