QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 07:03 PM) Richard hasnt proven s*** and none of the other players have either. Peavy is a bona fide top of the rotation starter and at least 75 percent of the teams in the league would take him from us with no questions asked. Here's a translation for the baseball retarded: Peavy good. And I probably only have to scour YOUR posts to find many more worse than mine, and thats probably only this summer. Even if Peavy is a better pitcher than Richard (when not on the DL), he makes an absurd amount of money for what he is now. Peavy's an above average guy, but even when healthy he was the #3 here. We could have put that money to use in acquiring a better DH/LF/3B. One thing I took from this deal is that in the future, I hope we do the majority of our free market spending on positional guys, because having a pitcher with a huge contract is dangerous, considering the nature of pitching and the associated injuries.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 04:05 PM) Yesterday's was at 47/53 in our favor and they had Perkins going. Figured Liriano would make it another close one. Without looking, I'll bet the Twins lineup is a lot better against RHP.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 03:52 PM) I don't buy that either. Just looking at numbers, I think Allen projects to be about a league average 1Bman. Probably a good hitter against RHP, mediocre to bad against LHP. League average 1B under team control beats mediocre RP 8 days a week IMO.

So I wrote something about the White Sox

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 02:11 PM) Congrats on getting this on FanGraphs Matt! http://www.fangraphs.com/community/index.p...-williams-mess/ Thanks chw, and thanks to anyone else who read it. I'm sure I'll end up writing plenty about the Sox on here, seeing as they're the team I follow the closest. -
The Peavy trade has to be on this list, and I'll own that I was wrong in supporting it.

Game Thread 8/10: MIN v CWS, 7:10pm
MattZakrowski replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in 2010 Season in Review
Is anyone else way too excited about these games? I know it's not THAT important of a series, but I'm playoffs level nervous. -
The decrease in scoring could also be attributed to the relatively recent sabermetric trend of valuing defense highly. Guys like Jermaine Dye don't get to play in the outfield as often (selection bias).

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 04:05 PM) Well it's dead to me. At least for a while. Do you think people really care now when a guy takes a no-hitter into the 7th inning? I never cared. If John Danks has a no hitter in the 7th with 120 pitches or something, I want him taken out.

White Sox (63-48) @ Orioles (37-74), 5/5 Game THREAD

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 09:45 PM) It's what we do. We're perpetually taking on these reclamation projects or former great players that are multiple years past their prime hoping they can find that fountain of youth. That's why I want Ozzie and KW gone. Will never win consistently with these two and nobody can convince me otherwise. Really? I'm unhappy with oz and kw, but jones has been well worth 500 k -

Actually, speaking of Marvel and Mega Man, I downloaded Marvel vs Capcom 2 for the PS3, it's so much fun, especially local multi-player.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) No one seems to want to recognize this, but I think a lot of what Kotsay costs us is not so much the poor ABs he gives us, but the ABs he takes away from guys like Viciedo and Lillibridge, who have been nothing but outstanding for us. And that doesn't even get into the roster spot he is taking away from someone else. Great point. Kotsay's WAR is -0.8, but his Wins above Viciedo as the DH (WAVDH) would be even worse. Tank isn't as patient as I'd like, but he has the kind of power you can't teach. He's grown on me a lot.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 02:06 PM) Swisher high-fiving a life-sized poster of himself in the dugout gives one a pretty good idea of the type of teammate he is. The kind with a sense of humor? I love baseball more than anything, but it's a game. It should be fun, and Swish was a fun player, even while underperforming (and by underperforming, I mean still being better than the Old Man and the 4A guy).

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 05:10 PM) He looks the same to me. But the point is the same anyhow, if he did gain weight its not like it was 50lbs. He hasn't looked drastically different at any point, the only thing it affects is maybe some knee type problems, not his stuff. He doesn't need to be getting more overweight, just staying overweight is a negative. People (myself included) always joke about how overweight people can succeed in baseball, but they really do age worse. Jenks is 29, which is on the tail end of the avergae player's peak age range (27-29, depending on who you ask). Once you factor in his less than ideal body type, it makes sense that he's falling off in terms of performance.
