  1. Hey, so remember how Kane was on the cover of NHL 10 and the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup? Well Johnathan Towes is on the cover of NHL 11. http://www.operationsports.com/newspost.php?id=419679
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) I think the violence in the story is a little extreme, but physical enforcement will make people in general think twice about doing something that is wrong. I knew to listen to my parents because I didn't like getting yelled at or having my ass swatted (never hard enough to cause considerable pain, but hard enough to hurt for about 5 minutes). That's the issue, though. The goal is to teach kids a sense of right and wrong. You want them to understand that what they did is wrong and why it was wrong, not how to avoid consequences.
  3. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 11:29 PM) Harsh? My ass. Seriously, it's "harsh" to not give someone a sundae after they've lost five keys? That's harsh? Like lost, I've never lost a key in my entire life. And if I lost five of them, my dad would've justifiably cracked me. Kids are assholes these days because there is no accountability. They can f*** up all they want, break rules left and right, and the worst that would happen is a five minute timeout (which probably won't get enforced either way). When I was a senior in high school, some spoiled little sissy started a food fight at lunch. One of the teachers in the cafeteria at the time started yelling for everyone to stop, and this same douchebag throws food off of him. The teacher grabs the kid by the collar and holds him against the wall. The next thing you know, the teacher is gone because mommy and daddy complained that their little brat was abused. That same punk was walking down the hall later that week, and another senior punched him right in the mouth in the hallway. He didn't start anything the rest of his time at school. Sometimes a kid needs a crack upside the head. I'm aware that lost's story is entirely different, but I just like remembering that story. Because kids these days need to know that violence is always the solution to their problems.
  4. Even if you don't count the World Cup because of the every 4 years thing, the UEFA Champions League still beats our domestic sports.
  5. So should I root for a draw between Algeria and Slovenia, Or is it better if one of them win?
  6. I say dadgunmmit IRL. True story. I also say the words that are filtered out, a lot. Like all the time. I like the filter though, because I do read this at work, and I don't think it bars any real discourse on baseball among other things.
  7. Did you guys know that the rotating DH is something lost of teams are going to, and that a lineup filled with base cloggers will not be as good as one with slappy fast guys and grindy utility players. Source: Chicago White Sox.
  8. 23 people win a world cup every 4 years. Literally billions of people play soccer. I can't imagine any league title would be tougher, but maybe an individual sport.
  9. Constructive posts be damned, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! YEEEEESSSSS!!!!!!! WHOOOOOO!!!!!!
  10. So we might waste money/prospects on a player for a season where we can't contend. Awesome. I didn't want a non-barren farm system anyway.
  11. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 31, 2010 -> 11:55 AM) How long will it take him to get into baseball shape
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 01:01 PM) A hole like that is produced by dissolution of the rocks below the surface over time, usually by flowing groundwater. It likely goes down and enters into a cave system, which may be just a small crack at some point. You can't exactly fill it completely, but you start dumping in rock, starting with coarse grains and then fining upwards, to rebuild the ground. With one that big, I wouldn't be surprised if dynamiting the sides to cause a cave-in was necessary. Semi serious question- Can we just leave it because it looks cool?
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ May 22, 2010 -> 04:54 PM) I recommend Jorge Cantu as a possible option. He's a butcher but can hit like no one's business. Eh, call me when his OBP isn't terrible. We need to make less outs, not more.
  14. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 21, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) What new patch? The third patch that came out earlier this week made it so that if you get the third out, and a runner crosses home, the run scores. They just fixed it with another today, apparently.
  15. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 20, 2010 -> 11:53 PM) I actually agree with J4L on this one. There is a reason Hargrove (the Indians manager at the time of course) said that pitchers should not be alone with Frank at the dish. Or why Ted Williams called him one of the best RH hitters he has ever seen during that era. 93' Mo: .297-.390-.525-.915 139 OPS+ BB:79 SO:130 (29 HR 101 RBI) 3.3 WAR 93' Frank: .317-.426-.607-1.033 177 OPS+ BB:112 SO:54 (41 HR 128 RBI) 6.7 WAR Both great hitters like you said. But you can get Mo Vaughn out. Frank was just a freak of nature. Seeing as we won the division by 8 games, we'd have still won it with a replacement level 1B if you take WAR as a literal win measurement metric, but when you win a division by 8 games, you can say that about almost any player on a team. Frank is either the second or third best hitter I've ever seen.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 20, 2010 -> 06:21 PM) (In all honesty, I could be playing just RDR & The Show for a long time and be happy) Not with the new patch that came out. They still haven't fixed the 3rd patch, and it's driving me up the wall. And of course it happens my last week of summer where I won't work full time too.
  17. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ May 17, 2010 -> 09:44 PM) A rained out game night like tonight has me thinking it's about time for another knightni list. I only know one Knightni, are there others?
  18. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 17, 2010 -> 05:39 PM) This team would never get on-base. So nothing would change.
  19. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ May 17, 2010 -> 10:54 AM) Agreed, but I Pollyannanish beleive that Becks is only sophomore slumping and that Q has got to still be hurt. I think you're right on Beckham, his average on balls in play is .235 (though his LD% is kind of low). His HR/FB rate is even worse. Quentin is hitting .180 on balls in play, with a LD% only .3 lower than 2008. I still think it's too late for this team, but I thing these two can be legitimate contributors in upcoming seasons (Though I think Quentin needs to DH, he's bad in the OF).
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 14, 2010 -> 08:37 PM) I just remembered he was DH'ing and i threw up in my mouth a little. I can't even be mad anymore, I burst into laughter telling my dad.
  21. The sound you just heard was Mauer and Morneau pooping themselves in fear of the mighty Embree. The only question now is who should go in game one of the ALDS?
  22. I'm sorry I said your uniform looked stupid Juan.
