QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 09:45 PM) Get on base Brian. Please don't chase the slider out of the zone here. atleast it was in the zone

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 09:43 PM) If he's out for any real length, think they'd bring up Fields and let him DH? no

QUOTE(champ @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 02:17 AM) Uhm, the Sox are a great offensive team, as well. So are the Yankees. Either he doesn't get up for the big games, or good teams have his number. Alright. I'm not going to disagree with you. BUT, how much longer can an offense that strikes out a TON, and hardly ever walks, keep putting up a bunch of runs. I have to think, that eventually, that free-swinging "philosophy" is going to bite them in the butt. Whether it's now, in a few weeks, September, or in the playoffs. Let's just say that the Tiger offense is centered around a lot of luck, and when that luck runs out, they're going to go into a funk. I'd say our offense does walk thome will get around 100 and konerko/dye/pods should have around 75 so and the only player with an OPS. under .725 is Anderson so I think the offense is good enough in those areas to be consistent throughout the year. so the key will be pitching

its important for the entire team to win this game

At this point of the season last year the whitesox were 67-35 (.657) and on pace for 106 wins. for the rest of the season they only went 32-28 (.533) This season the Tigers are 70-34 (.673) if they encounter a similar slump for the rest of the season and play .533 ball the rest of the way they go 31-27 and finish up 101-61 for the sox to catch up to that mark they have to go 40-19 (.677) the rest of the season just thought that was interesting

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 06:50 PM) And who's to say if we lost Saturday, we don't come out flat today, and lose 2 out of 3 this wknd? got me there
-
well I guess I was right about the bullpen having problems today Cotts allows all inherited runners to score and Jenks gets the loss so it might have been good to get the win saturday (which is what you want to do), but we suffer a tough loss possibly as a result
-
alright maybe Bmac looked bad I'm happy that we won the game, but I still think we should have saved somebody for tomorrow If vazquez pitches an 8 inning gem or if the bullpen is masterful I'll very gladly eat my words, but when a pitcher has consistently shown he can't pitch more than 5-6 innings its not the best thing to use up the entire bullpen the night before (although it was in a winning effort atleast)
-
great now once Javy loses it after 5 innings of dominance all we have is a tired bullpen to back him up he should have let Bmac tough it out a bit longer or something I mean the win was great today, but now were in a rough spot for tomorrow

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 05:10 PM) Yes, he has been. The Orioles have had good swings against him. He hasn't thrown a good changeup all game. alright thanks for lettin me know

can someone summarize how bad garland has looked for me

when a teams playing bad it generally takes some sort of win such as tonight for them to snap out of it

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 10:31 PM) It's funny, but this time a year ago, everyone was saying how we needed a lefty power bat. The offense has struggled, but that's not the main issue. For everyone complaining about the team trying to only hit homers, our "grinder", Mr. Scott Podsednik, has fewer steals than Carlos Zambrano in the 2nd half of the season so far. With our pitching staff as bad as it is right now, the last thing we need to do is play for one run instead of the potential big inning. Instead of losing 5-1, we'll lose 5-2. thats not necessarily true my whole point is playing smart ball sets tables for better homeruns instead of pointless solo shots, we get a 3 run homer an example would be if there was pods on first and 1 out. say iguchi's up and pods stealing, iguchi hits a grounder to the second basemen, instead of being an inning ending double play, it turns into a basehit and its 1st and 3rd with 1 out instead of inning over, then Thome can hit a 3 run homer instead of settling for a solo shot in the next inning
-
we can't lose
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 10:12 PM) Smart ball with this team is stupid. They're INCREDIBLY slow, and when you have a lot of powerful hitters, giving up outs isn't usually a wise thing. I didn't see people saying they missed small ball when Thome, PK, and Dye were in the top 10 in RBI. There's one thing I miss right now, and that's winning. only konerko, thome, crede and pyrzynski are horribly slow and smart ball can set the table for them instead of solo shots
-
this is getting frustrated instead of bunting camp, ozzie needs a smartball camp to get the team back
