QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) What a ridiculous overpay. I really wonder what the Sox could get for Quintana with what teams have been giving up for guys this offseason. That's other teams. It doesn't work that way for the Sox.

Who are the worst players in White Sox history?
BigEdWalsh replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 02:14 PM) Why does it seem like the Sox always get former superstars past their prime? Dunn, Thome, Vizquel, Manny Ramirez, Andruw Jones, Griffey, etc. The list goes on and on. It could be said of a lot of teams probably but yeah the Sox have always seemed to specialize in this. I've been a fan a long time and they've done this since I can remember. A couple more were Rocky Colavito and Ken Boyer. -
I remember the rivals days, then WSI which I posted in quite a bit until I left in disgust, following a suspension. LOL. Thank goodness for Soxtalk! I need my daily White Sox fix.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 02:53 PM) There are a few. Look at the regional TV markets that do not have pro sports teams as a start. Charlotte - Fox Sports Carolinas Indianapolis - Fox Sports Indiana Oklahoma City - Fox Sports Oklahoma Nashville - Fox Sports Southeast/Tennessee Salt Lake City - Root Sports Utah Portland - CSN Northwest Fastest growing cities in the US: 5. Salt Lake City 6. Raleigh, NC Based on that, I would think Charlotte, Indianapolis and SLC would be real opportunities for the Sox to relocate. Well, I'm quite sure it wouldn't happen but it'd be kind of funny from my standpoint if the Sox moved to Salt Lake. I moved there in the summer of...yep, 2005. Spent about five or six years there. I don't live there any more. So go ahead Sox, move there! Shove that dagger in!

Who are the worst players in White Sox history?

To be fair, Mike Squires was a very good fielding first baseman. Rich Morales was more or less a utility player. I don't have too much problem with those kind of guys. -

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 12:23 PM) A lot of it has to do with learning to catch in professional baseball weighed against the ability to hit. If a kid has a special bat, he is likely going to get moved to another position so that they can advance him more quickly to the majors. If the kid has an average bat the team will take their time and try and let him develop defensively. Another factor is the size of the player, obviously crouching for 1000 innings a year takes a physical toll on a person and not all kids develop the frame to be able to withstand the strain that it puts on your body. Usually they will either move these kids off right away or give them a chance to develop and then move them off to another position once the injuries start coming into play. Which leaves you with what the majority of minor league catchers are, defensive catchers without a lot of offensive upside. Obviously there are exceptions, but the depth in most minor league systems are guys with defensive skills that teams hope will develop some offense to go along with their defense. Thanks!

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 03:07 PM) I assume we'll sign a veteran to a minor league deal. Do we still have Brantly and Kottaras?

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 01:06 PM) I liked Beckham but I think we misused him. Hard for me to dislike a guy who played his hardest for us for seven years. You said it all for me.

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 05:02 PM) i am no expert and i am more than sure some posters on this site will be able to answer better than i, esp that one mod who played ball. but the concentration level to catch, the training for being a catcher, the legs, knee, back and even the butt exercise to handle that position. now i remember a abc thing on a sat about catchers and something for the fans. well bench, fisk and several more catchers were talking about how much work they had to do with catching and being conscious of the total pkg, hitting and catching and how hard it is. well today, the org wants to make it easier on the players.... methinks. Makes some sense to me. Thanks.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 08:08 PM) It is astonishing how bad Kobe Bryant is. He really needs to stop shooting and let their young guys take the lead on offense. Sure is an embarrassing ending to a great career.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 03:55 PM) the sleeper is zach collins. climbing fast. he is the best power for catchers, maybe the 2nd best in the draft, nice throwing skills and can hit for avg. the big question is can he stay at catcher??? if he can, i will take him over anyone that is not the top 2 fav pitchers. Why does that seem to be the case with soooo many catchers (wondering if he can stay at catcher)? You hear that all the time.

Red Sox sign David Price for 217 million over 7 years
BigEdWalsh replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That price tag is absurdly ridiculous! -
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 09:27 AM) how bout they install it in the stadium and can the recorded cheesy pop-metal crap they play. Now you're talking. But that'll never happen. Cheesy pop-metal is here to stay.

Well, on Thanksgiving I'm thankful that I don't have to watch Soto's throws back to the pitcher any more.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 07:14 AM) Rose will play. Bulls' last win in Portland came in 2007. Rose also tore his meniscus in Portland a few years ago. I'll be there. Glad Rose should be playing. I don't get to go to a Bulls game but once a year these days. Let's have no repeat of the 2013 game.
-
So starts the Bulls 50th season. As if I didn't feel ancient already, I went to the Bulls very first home game ever in 1966.

Who does SoxTalk prefer to win the World Series?
BigEdWalsh replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
Pulling for the Mets. I almost always pull for the AL but 1.) I've always liked the Mets since they came into being in 1962 or whenever it was, and 2.) I hate the f***ing Royals. So, easy choice here for me. Let's Go Mets!! -
QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Oct 10, 2015 -> 01:40 PM) The media coverage of this team is so pathetic. Really, a story on Cub fans claiming Lackey doctored the ball? When the Cubs did their rookie hazing, Jesse Rogers had a story on how it was another example of Maddon keeping the clubhouse loose. Every team does that every season. True, true....but Maddon's a genius.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 08:05 PM) I am so very sad to see this. Mark is one of my all time favorite players. One of my favorites too and he has remained that since he left the Sox which is probably true for all of us. I was at the game when he made his major league debut. I was impressed right off the bat. He'll be missed. I was hoping to watch him in the playoffs. The Blue Jays have been a fun team to watch this year. I hope if he wants a job in baseball the Sox offer him one, minor league instructor...anything.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 07:01 AM) http://mlb.mlb.com/mediacenter/index.jsp?c_id=mlb See the Sox last game. See the Mariners who they're battling for a top 10 protected pick. See the Astros, Rangers, Anaheim and Yankees battle it out for the division, and two wild card spots. See Cubs and Pirates play for home field advantage in the WC game. I went to the Mariners game last night. I'm going again today. WooHoo!!!! MLB TV does it right. Wish the NBA pkg was just the same and for that matter, the NHL. GO Pirates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
