  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 10:16 AM) Harry Volkman, whoosh, Tom Skilling before Tom Skilling dead at 89. He came to my grammar school back in the day to talk about weather. OK, I'm old and I remember him doing the weather when I was about 9 or 10. That's a long time ago.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 10:04 PM) Day off tomorrow, good time to fire Ventura DO IT!!!! Seriously, that'd make my day. I'm fed up and had enough of this dreadful baseball.
  3. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 09:59 PM) Pretty sure Flowers heard me yell you suck balls. That was my highlight.
  4. So I didn't see the game thread. Is the 18 K's in a 9 inning game a White Sox team record? I gotta believe it is. Anyway, outstanding performance by Sale/Jones.
  5. QUOTE (Saufley @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 09:34 PM) If the Sox lose the Sunday game and get swept there better be a news conference after the game with the firing of the manager!! Why? If they lose Sunday it's Ventura's fault? Getting a new manager at this point in the season would be pretty senseless anyway. Should have happened back in May or June.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 08:11 PM) How this team beat Madden 2 of 3 in Wrigley is an anomaly. No, not really. Well, sort of. Lol. This season as even you have said has been a constant roller-coaster ride of ups and downs. The down swings have unfortunately lasted longer than the good stretches. When we beat them in Wrigley, we were going well and they weren't. Now, we suck again and they're playing out of their minds. What can you do? While I hate to see Sale not do well it's at that point where I'd just rather they lose. Ugh.
  7. QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 07:14 PM) btw when did it become taboo to be a Cubs hater? I've been a proud Cubs hater as long as I can remember and all of a sudden I can't hate on them because they have a good front office and a plan that has come together without fault (save Baez and Almora). Too much cub-hater hate on this board recently Right on. I'm a proud Cub Hater since the '50s.
  8. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 07:07 PM) If the Sox do not watch it they will soon be in obscurity in Chicago. Haven't they always been?
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 06:56 PM) This weekend was the last 3 games I cared if the Sox won. Rest of the year, especially playoffs, will be hoping anyone but the Cubs win the WS. For once I actually agree with you.
  10. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 06:05 PM) Tommy Viola ‏@Tommy_the_V 2h2 hours ago .@KnightsBaseball's Matt Davidson named Best Defensive 3B in the IL by @BaseballAmerica. #congrats This is pretty encouraging reviews, especially from BA. Even though he struggles with contact, if he can still bring power and is good defensively, does he a September call up? I'd say no because he still can't hit. He does not deserve to be a call up.
  11. Man! That's real nice. She really has a talent. Oh, and thanks for sharing it with us.
  12. I don't think it's so much celebrating as it is trying to encourage the other guys. But either way, it isn't nearly as bad as the celebrating in basketball and especially football. Basketball players celebrate their 3 point shots. They celebrate dunk's as if they're Goliath or as if it's the first time they ever dunked. Football players celebrate every good run, every nice catch, every touchdown. The way sacks are celebrated is clownish.
  13. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 12:47 PM) no offense but why not Avi as dh and let thompson play the field. That works for me. I'd like to see Trayce in the OF and most importantly Getting LaRoche out of the lineup. Poor guy, I feel bad for him, but enough is enough.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 11:07 PM) Why optimistic? I know our pitching is great but it's been allegedly great for some time now and we continue to be a last place team in the Central. I don't really think Saladino and Sanchez are the answer despite their good gloves and Eaton and Avi are still question marks for the future. You guys like our setup men, I think they blow. Petricka and Putnam are average at best and Duke isn't that reliable. Robertson is great but still blows a lotta saves. Flowers' long streaks of suckage are a constant problem and Lexi is old. So why are you optimistic. Anderson has to be great or we are in a world of hurt. I said "optimistic" simply because I hate negativity. While there are problems to be sure and in answering other questions I addressed those, I actually like a lot of things about this team.
  15. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 10:27 PM) Optimistic for '17 not '16 for me. Yeah, most likely. Summing up how you feel about a team in one word is.........rather difficult. Many words come to mind.
  16. Well, they're for sure going to learn if they don't know already that Sox fans are not in real good moods. I actually used the word "optimistic" though. I couldn't help it because frankly I am. Not for this season any more but in general, I am.
  17. Hate to be a downer but I totally thought they wouldn't pull it off. I have no faith in this team. That said, YESSSSSSS! They frickin' won!!!!!!!!!! Great job by Robertson today.
  18. McEwing to work on his 3rd base-coaching skills.
  19. The catches by Eaton and Avi were great. Of course the HR by Melky but my favorite moment was the emotion Danks showed when he struck out Gardner after the balk call.
  20. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 09:24 PM) Hitting wise, Alvarez intrigues me just because of his story. To have success with such little experience is pretty great. I like MJ, but I think he'll end up getting traded. Pitching, has to be Montas. Either in the bullpen or the rotation, I don't care really. I just want to see him soon. Agreed about Alvarez. He's an interesting guy you can't help but root for. Montas is the obvious guy to be excited about pitching-wise but I think Adams is a really good prospect too. Hope he gets back to High A soon.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 07:25 PM) At least 4-5 posters joined me in praising him tonight. I don't know why he's so unpopular. He's like Mark Buehrle. He gets the ball and fires it, doesn't mess around. You can tell he's a competitor. Everything you should want in a baseball player. And somebody else said he's a great guy. I wasn't in the game thread for the game but Danks pitched a really good game. There, I said it. I don't want to look it up but I bet Danks has even been better more often this year than he's been awful.
  22. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 02:16 PM) Viciedo signing makes more sense He has had his chance and besides I would think he's rusty as hell making him even worse than he was. As for Trayce, at the very least he should provide good defense and yeah, we know about Viciedo and defense.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 11:42 AM) True, but that guy also was smiling during the at bat a lot. He looked flustered that the fastball got him for strike three. That guy smiling was the last out of Phil Humber's perfect game and a lot of people said that they thought he struck out then on purpose which of course was ridiculous. I saw somewhere maybe it was in the game thread that someone commented that Ryan struck out against LaRoche on purpose. Absurd.
  24. C'mon Danks. I'll even speak kindly of you from now on (crosses fingers behind the back). Sox can't afford to drop another one today.
