QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 05:57 PM) Yikes. I must say I am a bit confused about the dislike for CarGo but the love for Longoria. Longoria has not been the stud he once was for the last few years. The packages suggested above seem really rich for my blood. Also, the Rays are in a competitive position still. Not sure they would move Longoria for players that aren't mlb-ready at this point. It would be interesting to see what they do; if they have a chance to start stockpiling minor league talent again, given their payroll limitations, it may be tough to pass on that, although I don't really know if he's truly on the market.
-
A move like that would cost at least 2 or 3 of the top 5 prospects, right? Can the Sox afford to make a move like that? The farm system has improved, but has it that much?
-
If the White Sox are uncertain of their direction, and that usually leads into a conversation about trading Jeff S, but what would they be looking for if they decide to make a run at a wildcard? Does playing for a 1 game playoff temper the aggressiveness?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 05:15 PM) I would hypothesize that Shark's value is actually higher today then it was a week ago. The Sox actually have more leverage and other pitchers have moved (and / or never ended up entering the market). Bottom line, I don't know if the Sox really are going to move him, but I think if we moved him today, we'd get more then we would have a week ago. I don't know if I would have predicted that a week ago, but it at least looks that way. And I suppose it could change again in a day. How many pitchers remain on the market that are better than him and/or are not rentals? I don't think his value is any less than it was a week ago, just not sure that it will be that high for a 12 start rental.

Blue Jays interested in Quintana or Samardjiza
spiderman replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Since he is starting tonight, there's no need to trade him until 31st now. The White Sox are probably unsure of their direction (due to their recent hot streak). Whether that's a good thing or not is probably a bigger question than whether they should trade Samardijia. -
He's going to start. If he is traded, the White Sox are holding him until the end of the month.

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 06:09 PM) I'd like to see rest of the way: Finish with at least 81 wins Carlos Sanchez lockdown 2B and Saladino 3B Move Shark and EJ show he can be a 4 or 5. Sale win CY Young This offense get going and finish strong Anyone catch Steve Stone over the weekend say that Saladino, he believes, will be the long-term SS? What would that mean for Anderson? -
QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 12:40 PM) does anyone think this sounds like a move the sox would do....... i do. Seems unlikely; White Sox typically prefer major league ready talent.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 03:02 PM) They never have detailed it for the media or general public. Hasn't Williams implied that we're in Year 1 of this plan?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 02:48 PM) I want to put something out there, because it seems it isn't as common of knowledge as I thought, but as long as Kenny Williams has been the White Sox GM, and until today, the White Sox have always had a 3 year plan. This isn't a new concept. There have always been stories about writers trying to figure out who is on Kenny's vaunted 3 year board. What is this 3 year plan that Williams mentioned? That's the first time I heard it mentioned. Was Year 1 an aggressive free agent strike then? Any idea what that would mean for this off-season? It sure seems like then went for it this year, and it hasn't worked out (yet). How does resigning Samardzjia (or finding a replacement of similar quality) factor in?

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 01:38 PM) Doesn't this mean they're not very involved in the trade discussions for him? Sounds to me like one of two possibilities. 1) The Cubs will come up as being a destination for any quality/upper echelon starting pitcher because they have a great farm system and need another arm. Who knows what the actual truth is to some of these reports. 2) They are just letting teams know they'd like to be part of discussions, but haven't made any significant offers. Teams aren't going to turn the Cubs away, given the amount of prospects that they have and it doesn't hurt to listen.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 01:36 PM) Schwarber+ is a minimum I assume, though a cursory look at some Cub forums has a lot of their fans thinking it can be done for Baez+ There's no way they are going to trade him. I don't think the Cubs are going to make a major move. I think they are more likely to find a veteran/stop-gap type who would help, but wouldn't cost them a premium prospect.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 11:21 AM) I do like the bad contract swap idea. Danks has been pitching better, but I still think this team is better off with EJ in the 5 spot - so if you can get a bat for him, let's do it. At this point, I'd just be fine with giving Micah Johnson ABs at DH. He'd be a HUGE upgrade to what we're getting there now. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea. Just DL LaRoche, or keep him on the bench for a late inning PH role..he's worthless right now. I don't think that's a horrible idea. Clearly he's ready for the majors as a hitter, but the problem will be that the White Sox view that DH position as a power spot (despite the lack of production La Roche has provided). When the offense is bad, and there's a guy who can help, why not? Does he still project as a 2B or are they considering the OF with him?

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 10:45 AM) If the Sox are truly back in the Wildcard race, it just proves how pointlessly long the season is, and how utterly meaningless any games before July are. Unless you play like the Phillies, you're never out of the race and no conclusions can be drawn for any pre-July stretch of baseball. I like the 2nd Wildcard, but it does make the 162-game season laughable. On one hand, I hate that the regular season could come down to playing a 1 game wildcard after 162 games, but, on the other, it does add excitement to the season.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 10:33 AM) That is very exciting. Reminds me a lot of Danks 07 season this year. I think he comes back next year and dominates. Good chance that he comes back next season is at least a #3 quality starter, if not a #2 type with upside to being a legitimate top of the rotation starter.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 10:22 AM) It would not shock me at all if the White Sox were out looking for major league hitters that they would have on the roster past 2015. Could I see them sniffing around a Josh Hamilton style trade (assloads of cash, and not much in terms of a prospect) for a guy like Pablo Sandoval? Absolutely. I could also see them looking at other 3B's and C's around baseball. It would make sense IF they are sticking to this plan of trying to compete every year instead of taking a step back and building up a minor league system that has sustained success. I just don't know that rebuilding every season on the fly makes a ton of success or has shown to work.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 08:54 AM) it is the excitement of a team, this team in winning, that is deceiving our emotions. then when the trade deadline past, the anger will take over. stay the course, make the necessary changes, as hard it is to do, it is the best in the future. if not, then the changes will need to be done via Free Agency. This team isn't winning; it's won 4 in a row, but the big picture (at least through the end of July) says this is a below average team. -

QUOTE (harkness @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 09:25 AM) I agree with Dick... This series with Boston will determine a lot... I'm thinking the coaching staff might even use this as a motivation (if the players care about being together) If this team wants to stay together it has to keep winning. If they lose the first two in Boston the sale begins. This is probably true; if they lose 3 out of 4, they will sell. I'm not sure what splitting a series means though to how the organization would think. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 09:06 AM) Here's another thing to take into consideration. The Twins still get to play four more series against the Indians, who some feel pretty much laid down and died this past weekend, which is more or less 21% of their remaining games. Now, there's always a possibility Cleveland wakes up and decides to play spoiler over the final two months...but there's also a very real possibility they go into the tank and end up 12-18 games under .500 as well. So far, Minnesota's 4-2 against the Indians, and they have 7 left to play in CLE, 6 at Target Field. Good point although I still don't trust the Twins down the stretch. -

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 03:41 PM) After the Cleveland series, this team is definitely not a "seller" anymore. The only question is "are we a buyer?" Do we go out and get a bat? Or do we not mess with the outstanding chemistry this team has developed? I know its dangerous to mess with a roster that is already a World Series contender, but I'd really like to see us add someone who can hit 20 HRs and drive in 50 runs down the stretch. I really think this is the missing link that could insure us the first championship in 10 years. Let's experience the joy of 2005 over again in the coming months! They are 5-5 in their last 10 games. Have things changed that much? When you're playing catch-up, playing .500 ball is probably not the way to do that. They should be sellers, but there isn't much to sell outside of the obvious (Samardzjia). -
One thing to remember; this has been a team that has consistently played below .500 ball throughout 90+ games; a winning streak against a Cleveland team (after losing 5 of 6 against good teams) does not (and should not) mean management should come to any irrational thoughts .

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 11:30 PM) Saladino had a couple tough games but bounced back well tonight. I like what I've seen to date, but should I be skeptical of a 25 year old AAA player having any extended staying power?

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 11:55 PM) Interesting that Texas is in the hunt for Hamels. We trail them by 1 game in the L column. Texas has also been rumored to be moving Gallardo; they could be a buy/sell team.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 11:17 PM) Three wins vs. Cleveland don't make us a contender. No. They need to win every game between now and July 31st just to get their management to stay put. With the shuffling of the minor league rotation, it appears they are preparing for a deal to be be made though. This team would need a 20-10 record in August after a 10-2 type run to finish this month. All not happening with this offense, and defense.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 11:07 PM) it all depends on reality or fantasy. i just like to gage it against hou's trade and what is value of a comp pick. Reality is that the Sox will get one decent prospect, and not a team's top 5, maybe not even top 10 within an organziation. That's not to say a 3B prospect couldnt't be a piece the White Sox eventually need, but there are no blue chips or sure things coming back; they should have seen the market for starting pitching and the reality of their own situation back in June or early July.
