What a luxury it is to have a fresh arm like Jake's going into September. Doesn't the pitcher also have the upper hand when facing new batters? He has also been really good vs some of the better AL hitters who transferred from the NL: M. Cabrera - 2-17 .118 J. Bay - 2-12 .167 J. Drew 3-17 .176
-
Not many holes in that lineup. Really nice to see the offense on all cylinders and finally giving Danks some run support.

QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 05:43 PM) Getz had himself a very nice July... .324/.373/.441/.815... And did a nice job today of carrying it over into August... 3-5 with a double, two stolen bases, and two runs scored. Yeah, since the ASB, he is batting .340.

Sox Acquire Jake Peavy for Richard, Poreda, Russell, Carter
RME JICO replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
How does everyone compare Peavy to Halladay? It seems like we gave up a lot less to get Peavy compared to the asking price for Halladay. -
I'll take Peavy.

Does Peavy end up with White Sox before the trade deadline?
RME JICO replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I voted yes. -
VAFan, Swisher was hardly better than a replacement player last year for us and was playing so bad that he was benched for Wise. He is batting .239 this year, and did a good chunk of his damage in April. Also, he has yet to play CF for the Yankees this year, so it may be better to compare him with Jermaine Dye since Swisher has spent most of his time in RF.

Manny and Big Papi tested positive for steroids in 03

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:51 PM) I'm still fairly confident our season will end some time in October. You are correct. The last game of the season is on October 4th. Losing these games is not the end of the season, but it will be interesting to see what KW does based on the results over the past 7 games.
-
1-6 in out last 7 games vs the top 2 teams in the division. KW said that he would wait until after these two series to decide on what to do on the trading front. Going 1-6 says it all. The next 40 hours or so should be interesting.

QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 06:55 PM) Just wondering, how many consecutive no-hit innings has Buehrle pitched now? 9 last thursday and so far 3 today,... any before he was taken out of the game before his perfect game?He pitched one out before being taking out against BAL.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 09:05 PM) This season, our CF have hit .225 with a .285 OBP and a .598 OPS. 3 HR and 20 RBI combined. That's brutal; what are the numbers if you take Pods out of that equation.

Interestingly, Minn. Star Tribune still favors us
RME JICO replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
BP's PECOTA projections favor us as well (and BP normally hates us). They have us with a 48% chance to the win the division with Detroit at 34%, and Minnesota at 17%. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/ps_oddspec.php That was also the projection before our win last night. So I assume we will be slightly higher once that win hits. It seems like we are going to have a rollercoaster ride for the rest of the season. We go from (MIN, NYY, LAA) to (CLE, SEA, OAK, KC, BAL) to (BOS, NYY, MIN, CHC, BOS) to get us past Labor Day. It will probably come down to that final series in Detroit in October. -
I believe it will come down to who replaces JD in RF if he moves to DH (if he even wants to). We know what we get out of JD + Thome, but will JD + ? or Thome + ? actually be any better? Both of them are going to provide an OPS of .850 to .900, 30 HRs, 100 RBI every season - those are hard to replace. Even if Thome's numbers dip, he is a nice complement to PK, CQ, and JD.

MARK BUEHRLE PITCHES THE 18TH PERFECT GAME IN HISTORY
RME JICO replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Kinda funny that Uribe broke up the last potential perfect game with an error, and that Wise was on the losing end of Johnson's perfect game in 2004. -
Add a Perfect Game to his freakin resume. How many of those other pitchers have one of those and a No-hitter?

Anderson has had several chances to prove himself and he just didn't do it. A-Row was basically traded because the organization believed that Anderson could do the job. In 2006, he posted a -11.4 VORP (where he was a huge hole in the lineup) and had -5.8 VORP this year. The problem is both him and Wise should not be on the roster until they both can at least provide league average play.

QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 08:13 PM) 33% Tigers 33% White Sox 33% Twins Not too hard to figure out. I would say more along the lines of: 33.4% White Sox 33.3% Tigers 33.3% Twins

Beckham leads all rookies in OPS. Right now it probably comes down to which team is in it down the stretch (exposure). Romero and Bailey both have probably surpassed Porcello right now in terms of production and performance. For batters Reimold, Gardner, and Beckham are all in the mix.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 11:22 AM) I wouldn't be suprised if CQ is our DH next year. He would probably be 4th in line for that behind Thome, Konerko, and Dye, so I doubt it.

Some interesting material between the lines

It is surprising to see guys like Masset, MacDougal, and Aardsma actually doing good. I thought they were all pretty much done when they left the Sox.
