QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) 2-3-4 coming up, keep it going B-Mac. This inning will be the big test, especially with his current pitch count. -
QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) Our magic number is actually 18 against the Indians(17 to tie). The Indians have 26 games left meaning they can win 101 games on the year. We would have to win 17 games to tie them if that was the case. That is what I was saying, the Magic number is 17, since that would match the possible win total by CLE, and the Sox having the Tie-Breaker. Not 16.
-
Cleveland can only win 101 games, and that is if they win their next 26. Minnesota can only win 98 games, and that is if they win their next 27. Sox have to go 17-10 to get to 101 wins, which would clinch the Division. Realistically, based off current Winning Percentages, the Sox will clinch the Division during the CLE series (19-21SEP) once they win one game of that series. Final Standings Projected: Sox 100-62 CLE 89-73 MIN 86-70 The Magic Number to clinch Home Field: 23

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 04:34 PM) Yeah, winning tomorrow would be more like a bonus to me than anything else. We should have a contest to predict tomorrow's starting line-up. Prediction: C - Widger 1B - Gload 2B - Harris SS - Blum 3B - Ozuna RF - Perez CF - Rowand LF - Pods DH - Everett SP - McCarthy RP - Sanders Closer - Jenks

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 04:18 PM) give garland the cy Yes, great game for Jon. The bats cooled a little, but they did enough to give Jon a cushion, and 2 runs was more than enough. It is great to break the brooms out. Now lets go take that game from Boston and take a 5 game lead in the AL.
-
Yes, it is nice to have a big lead this late in the season. It is just odd rooting for MIN. It is also nice to bring out the brooms since the Sox dominated DET with great pitching and great hitting! :sweep:

QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 3, 2005 -> 09:05 PM) Was a really good sports day for me Yeah, I got to see both games, one on ESPN2 and the other on WGN. What a comeback by the Illini! Another solid win for the Sox. Glad to see the bats are continuing their domination. Uribe is batting .600 in September, and Gooch is batting .800. Mark also looked good with 8 Ks. See, Howry is still helping the White Sox out - Great job Bob!

Konerko a finalist for Hank Aaron Award
RME JICO replied to Gene Honda Civic's topic in Pale Hose Talk
PK is actually a Top 5 1B in the Majors, it may not seem like that, but he is. 1. D. Lee .344, 104 R, 39 HR, 94 RBI 2. A. Pujols .334, 111 R, 35 HR, 100 RBI 3. M. Teixeira .287, 94 R, 34 HR, 108 RBI 4. R. Sexson .261, 80 R, 32 HR, 97 RBI 5. P. Konerko .273, 80 R, 32 HR, 82 RBI These five are also the only 5 1B's with over 80 runs, 30 HR's, and 80 RBI's. If you consider that Pujols and Teixeira have better offensive teams, then the stats are comparable. Granted Lee and Pujols are in a league of their own with their high averages, but Konerko holds his own. Only 13 players are batting over .300 in the AL, and none over .330, so the averages are all down from recent history. I don't know who everyone expects to replace PK if he leaves. He is only 29 yrs old, so a longer deal would not be that big of a risk because he could always play DH in a couple of years if needed. Just my 2 cents. -
This is a good sign. .615 BA, 13 AB, 4 R, 8 H, 6 RBI, 2 BB, 0 K with 2 2B, 2 HR. That is the line for Harris and Uribe in the last 2 game combined. If the Sox get that type of production or even half that production from their #8 and #9 batters, they will be good to go. Uribe just looks more comfortable at the plate and he is patient. I can't believe he has not struck out and he is drawing walks. This looks like the 2004 version!
-
21-4 in two games. The Sox need to keep this momentum into the weekend. This lineup has been electric and giving the pitchers more confidence. Uribe is on fire!

I thought a 1 year contract was a 1 year contract? If he agrees to a 1 year contract in December 2004, how does he get another year in 2006? I thought arbitration was only in specific cases.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 05:48 PM) Iguchi wouldn't have ph last night if there was something wrong with him that was serious. I think Ozzie might be trying to see if Harris can provide a spark to this team. I really respect how Iguchi has played this year, but he's seemed out of it the past few weeks. It just seemed like odd timing coming after a loss, and it said he was out for personal reasons - which normally means it was not a manager's decision. Now it is the second game in a row without the Manager's MVP in the game. I know it is just speculation, but like I said, I just hope it is not an injury.
-
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 02:40 PM) why no Iguchi? Is he late again? Tonight's Lineup Pods, LF ... Ozuna, 3B ... Everett, DH ... PK, 1B ... Rowand, CF ... Dye, RF ... AJ, C ... Uribe, SS ... Harris, 2B ... Garcia, RHP. This lineup has a little more speed and having Harris, Pods, then Ozuna puts a lot of pressure on the opposing pitcher if more than one of them get on at the same time. Also, 3-7 with Carl, PK, AR, JD, and AJ is a nice stretch of good hitters with power. I miss having Iguchi in there, but I guess they have to stick with what works best. I am hoping that there is not an undocumented injury with Iguchi that they are trying to nurse. Sox win 5-2, Pods gets 2-3 SB's and puts pressure on from the get go!
-
S. Douglass (5-2) vs F. Garcia (11-7) Let's go Freddy. Give us another outing like the MIN 1-hitter. The hitters are ready to support you!
-
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 11:07 AM) I'd like to see the sox go back to that early summer philosophy where all we heard was that they're only focused on the game today. Stop thinking about the playoffs. Stop thinking about August. Don't think about winning this series against Detroit. Just win today. One Game and One Win at a time! Lineup looks great!

QUOTE(the southside tiger @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:14 PM) And why would Jose get us more talent? Perhaps because hes a better pitcher? Could that be the case? Id say keep the better pitcher and trade the lesser one for lesser prospects. The Sox should be playing for now, not years in the future. Besides, I like proven goods. How many times has a future great turned into garbage or disappeared completely? Weve had plenty of those. Jose however, is a solid starter and hes proven himself. I think the pitching staff in general is solid enough to win a lot of ballgames. The Sox need to shore up the left side of the infield. That should be priority #1 in the offseason if not before the waiver deadline tomorrow.

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:13 PM) Lol, when was the last time the sox put a few games together without any errors?? They look like butchers out there, for a while now. Yeah, the defense has looked pretty bad of late, and it seemed to drop off considerably during the losing streak. It seems like they have bad pitching, hitting, fielding, and coaching days all in the same games. Hopefully they got that out of their systems and they can string a decent winning streak together.
