QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 01:37 PM) Sad but true. Single moms working 2 jobs, people working 2, sometimes 3, jobs...Few and far in between, but there are still noble people who would rather work hard than depend on the government... It's even more sad that the ones that NEED the help can't get it or have to jump hurdles to get it, but the ones who are cleating the system are getting thousands per month driving around in new Caddies.. :headshake

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 02:14 PM) Do Not under any circumstance call anyone or anything "gay" I don't care what context you use it in. For example....."The old man felt young and gay on his birthday" See.............no matter what, it's just no good here. Stay away from it...we'll all be better off. Using "f**" for cigarette is also unacceptable.
  3. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 01:29 PM) Yep, we got in to see it last night after the bullpen bar, after the game. It was also in the case outside the main gift shop during the game. The guy said they moved it after the game, we suspect they have a few replicas floating around. You're probably right. The AL trophy is with the one in the office so that might be the real one? Or maybe the really real one is in Jerry's office.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 12:38 PM) My guess is they're working part-time, which would explain the 10,000, while probably holding a second job to make ends meat...I've seen many people do it that way... It's amazing to me that people are forced to have to have 2 jobs to support themselves, nevermind a family. Sick.
  5. For those that haven't see it, the trophy is at the park downstairs at the media/office entrance. They seem to letting folks come in and take a look as 3 guys did so while I was there. Never gets old seeing it..

On a whim I asked the Sox - you're supposed to sumbit charity requests weeks in advance - and they stepped up. Once again proving that this club is just the absolute best when it comes to helping out the community in any way they can.
  7. Maybe "no comment" is what Gooch says to anything asked when his interpreter isn't around..?

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 10:38 AM) I didn't read the entire thread and just pulled out that one comment. I wouldn't think they could work for less than the minimum, but they could withhold for uniforms, etc. They could work less than a 40 hour week and still be "full time". So $10,000 would be possible. http://www.dol.gov/esa/minwage/america.htm#Illinois The minimum wage in Illinois is $6.50 which = $13,520 a year gross. Whitesoxin', if people at your work are being paid under the minimum, here is a site they can (should) report your employer to. http://www.dol.gov/esa/whd/

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 10:23 AM) There are certain exceptions to the minimum wage rules. I had to look them up once, but have forgotten most of them. Perhaps with the recent changes, those classifications were removed. It was things like waiters who received tips, seasonal jobs, etc. You could also deduct for uniforms, regardless of actual cost) and stuff like that. That makes sense, and I have no idea, but do Dairy Queen workers work for tips...?

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 09:48 AM) Not off hand, I do know a guy who worked for a big supplier but this was a few years back and I have kinda lost contact with him. My card show days are way over. What are you looking for, I kinda have a knack for finding stuff... Things are usually a little cheaper if you buy direct from steiner sports or one of the other credible companies as most of the stores in the mall buy off of them and then mark it up higher. I need something today, so I'm kind of in a bind. I got some stuff signed on Tuesday, but I want to get one or two more things. It's for an AMSA charity auction that benefits the AMSA'S Institute Scholarship Program and the event is tomorrow night.
  11. QUOTE(soxhawks @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 07:48 PM) I just wondered what the spin on this would have been if Bonds had said it Exactly what I was just going to post... There'd be a hanging scheduled, no doubt.

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 09:35 AM) Ugh..that store is the type of place that sells memorbilia for ridiculous prices. I'm talking like $400 for a Cal Ripken signed baseball and stuff like that. I loathe stores that mark-up memorabilia like that but I guess if people actually buy the stuff more power to them. Any other places you know of G..? BTW, yes on the buzzkill last night.

  15. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 09:23 AM) why are there so many complaining whitesox fans after we just won the WS and just saw the Banner and the Rings and everything. I expected it the last 2 seasons but jesus man.... some of you need to :banghead I fully expected more.

If there's a sports memorabilia store at North Riverside or Oakbrook Mall...? I don't know the name of any of them so I can't look them up in the yellow pages. TIA. Steff

Again Rapper Files for Divorce After Three-Month Remarriage By MIKE HOUSEHOLDER AP AP It seems another nasty custody battle for Em and Kim's daughter Haile could be on the way. Talk About It: Post Thoughts DETROIT (April 5) - Eminem 's dysfunctional relationship with wife Kim has hit another low - he filed divorce papers Wednesday, less than three months after remarrying her. The filing on behalf of Marshall Bruce Mathers III, Eminem 's real name, was confirmed by Eminem 's publicist, Dennis Dennehy, and two employees of the Macomb County clerk's office. They didn't provide their names, citing an office policy. Dennehy had no other comment Wednesday. The Grammy- and Oscar-winning rapper and Mathers remarried Jan. 14, a month after the couple announced they were getting back together. Their first marriage ended after two-plus years in October 2001 in an ugly legal fight that included a custody battle over their daughter, Hailie. Though the marital issues of most rappers wouldn't make headlines, Eminem has used his tormented relationship with Kim, his high school sweetheart, as a source of his most popular and demented rhymes. He's killed her off in song and assailed her with his lyrics - but that was before they got back together. Eminem , 33, and Mathers, 30, reconciled in late 2004, and he announced in December 2005 that they would get back together. The pair grew up in the suburbs along Eight Mile Road, Detroit's northern border. Last August, it was announced that Eminem had entered a hospital to undergo treatment for sleep medication dependency. A month earlier, he denied reports that he was preparing to retire from recording. Eminem rose to pop stardom by delivering a number of best-selling CDs, deeply personal lyrics and a starring role in the 2002 film "8 Mile." He has won nine Grammys, including best rap album for "The Slim Shady LP," "The Marshall Mathers LP" and "The Eminem Show." He won an Oscar for the song "Lose Yourself" from "8 Mile."
  18. Wow.. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060405/ap_on_...nA1BHNlYwMxNzAy SOUTH BEND, Ind. - A couple says they are thrilled to have their dog back nearly five years after it disappeared. Holly and Troy Webb said they thought the worst when Gidget, their Lhasa apso, ran away in 2001. "We thought maybe she got hurt or something, but nobody called or anything like that," Holly Webb told WNDU-TV. But the South Bend Animal Control officials called the Webbs last week, saying they found the dog, still wearing the collar and tags she had on when she disappeared. The dog was found tied to animal control's front door, the Webbs were told. "When I saw her, it was like seeing a ghost," Troy Webb said. Gidget, missing for four years and seven months, is now 12 or 13 years old. She came home with matted fur and moves a bit slower but was otherwise all right, the Webbs said. "If she just wants to be a lap dog, that's fine with me, too," said Troy Webb. The Webbs said they believe someone had their dog. She had been fed but not groomed.
  19. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 12:39 AM) Remember those days when we had those threads with some of the fans crying poor, about how JR didn't put enough money into the team, yet the "sane" people argued that payroll HAD increased over the past 5 seasons? Ahhh those were the days. But it shows how far this team has come in such a short period of time since last season. And let's just enjoy the ride while we can. It's tough for folks who don't analyze it by line item to rationalize. Most fans I know don't bother to look at the variances and just see players like Colon walk away and cry "Jerry is so cheap...". Thankfully (hopefully) that argument will be asleep for a while.

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 08:51 PM) Not if you have money coming in from more than one source. Using my example: winning money in a malpractice lawsuit. What does that have to do with an employer paying UNDER the federal minimum wage..?
