  1. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 10:58 AM) His attitude? Yes, definitely. But, if you are the prosecuter and you wanted to send a LOUD message about steroid use, wouldn't the all time home run king be the perfect foil for that? That would be a message that would be heard from MLB to high school kids. And really, the high school kids are the one that need to hear that message the most. I completely agree with you. I just wish they had made more of an effort to go after others. Especially others who have tested positive as of late. Raffy would have been a good start.

    Pet peeves....

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 10:48 AM) I think I'm over conscious on this one. My dog starts barking at all I'm all paranoid and whisk him in the house, even though he's supposed to bark and let us know people are around that aren't supposed to be. Guard dog extraoirdinaire... Ditto. BTW, I haven't made my daily trip down yet - I hate this, ugggghhhh!!!! When I do I'll let you know about the info I have.
  3. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 10:49 AM) Agreed again. I don't think the "picking on a black man" will get any traction, however. There are too many whites and hispanics in baseball using that will make that a moot point. But they don't have a lynch mob after them at this point... Baseball and the G'ment needs to address ALL steriod users, and quickly. IMO, way too much attention has been placed on Bonds, and it's fairly obvious to see that it's because of his "attitude".

Dog owners who leave their dogs out in the yard for hours despite them barking at the sliding door to be let in....
  5. QUOTE(WCSox @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 10:40 AM) I REALLY hope that they're going after others in MLB, because Barry is just the tip of the iceberg. And I'd really hate this to become a "they're just trying to bring down Barry" thing. This I hope as well. Also, and I hope I am wrong, but sadly I give it a very small amount of time before this becomes a "you are picking on the black man" thing....
  6. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 10:25 AM) OK, Steff. I yeild. My original point was that we wouldn't have to hear from anybody that there was never any real proof that Bonds had ever tested positive for steroids. Technically, you are 100% correct. Realistically, that proof was not accepted as proof by the Barryites. I would agree with that as I have heard it said. Did you believe that? Your initial comment is a bit evasive. I am a Bonds fan, but there was no doubt to me that he rub-a-dub dubbed that cream all over as much as he could in a deceptive manner.
  7. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 10:14 AM) Let me rephrase. It now not based on a leak. It is now public record as a result of a legal matter and on the record in our justice system. Game if Shadows is not based on a leak. They refrence the actual testimony seen with their own eyes from Bond's mouth regarding the positive test in Nov 2000. Tit for tat, but just because the Government didn't write GoS doesn't mean the "leak" wasn't fact at the time is was published. If somehow this indictment gives justification to the masses that "finally Barry DID do steriods"... that's odd to me. The "facts" have been all over the place. That is not the dispute. The dispute is if he KNOWINGLY knew he was using. And I'm not sure I understand your statement above, but GJ testimony is a legal proceeding kept on record in our justice system.
  8. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 10:03 AM) The big deal is that now it is fact. It's not been leaked. It is on public record in a legal matter. He tested positive for performance enchancing drugs and that fact can no longer be denied. It was leaked in 2003 when Fainaru-Wada and Williams began their investigation for Game of Shadows.
  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 07:56 AM) To me that is the most important part of all of this. Whether or not he can OJ his way out of a conviction doesn't matter to me as much as we now have positive steroid test results on record. We don't have to hear that Barry Bonds never failed a drug test again. Hopefully baseball will really start to take the tough steps to rid the game of this crap. The positive test has been on record since 2000 via rumors and made public in 2003 via the grand jury leak.
  10. QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 01:05 PM) Are you suggesting that the Sox do not have veto authority over who the broadcasters are, even if the Sox do not pay them? I suggested nothing of the sort. Just repeated Brooks sentiments on the matter that it is a joint effort. Though I do always like to stress that the Sox don't pay the talent despite what I have see others state.
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 11:16 AM) At least they're still talking about Stone. That's a start. I don't care one way or the other about Stone (as I rarely listen to the broadcasts) but I do feel it's important to again point out that the Sox do NOT employ the radio personalities. That needs to be kept in mind when folks want to comment on the Sox being solely to blame for who is or is not calling the games.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 04:12 PM) People who while in the stall next to you in the public bathroom, are talking on their phone. Speakerphone is worse of course. People at my work did this all the time. So very gross.

    Pet peeves....

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 02:16 PM) Seriously. The whole point was to have a fun thread, instead of everyone getting snippy about other people's pet peeves. As the thead starter, that was not my point. I don't see anyone getting snippy about others peeves. What I do see is some offended by what they perceive to be judgements of their parenting, and ignorant comments about other's appearances. I don't think it's too much to ask to comment on something that bothers someone without making it personal.
  15. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 08:33 AM) Wasn't Lomax also the guy from Death of a Salesman? Wasn't Lomax Bernie's last name also?

    Pet peeves....

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 09:26 AM) OK. I am going to respectfully suggest that any pet peeves related to parenting techniques be left out of this thread henceforth. I'd hate to see the thread go really bad, I think its a fun one. Wasn't picking on you CC, yours just happens to be the most recent post. I suggest comments on personal appearance be avoided as well.
  17. QUOTE(Soxy @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 10:08 PM) So, it's been 3+ months since I turned in my comps/pre-lims/task of Sisyphus and still no word. A politely worded (checked by 2 grad students for bitterness, anger and panic) e-mail was responded to by my "mentor" with a vague timeline and a veiled threat about my current "progress." (On the plus side, it's the first e-mail she's responded to in a month, so baby steps right?) If they find my answers acceptable by the 23rd I will qualify for reduced fees, if not I'm out another $400 next February. Further, I can't start work on my dissertation until I pass those stupid things, and I have to have that proposed (with a full written proposal) by April 1st of next year or I lose my funding. I had no idea coming into this that academia was so political and petty. I keep trying to remind myself why I am doing this, and honest to god, the only answer I can think of is because I've come too far in the program to quit. The moral of the story children: don't go to grad school. I have no idea how you, and others who go on to grad school, do it. Same with doctors or lawyers. So much school. Takes a special mindset for sure.

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 09:15 PM) White kids that BLAST rap music in their cars Isn't this against the law now (not being a white kid blasting rap music, but blasting music too loud in your car at all)? Noise pollution or something or other?
  19. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 08:27 PM) I'd pay good money to see Clemens and Schilling fight to the death. Off-topic, and pretty harsh and brutal, but I really despise both of them. I think that match would pay for what ARod thinks his new contract should be. I also think there are a lot of baseball fans who despise them both.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 04:48 PM) HEY, EFF YOU!!! I'M MOVING AS FAST AS I CAN!!!! I mean..........YEAH, I hate that guy, too....... I'm sure he hates the fact that he moves that slow as well. Hopefully if it's some sort of disability he doesn't ever hear the comments above.
  21. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 11:02 AM) I'll throw the question out to anyone; do you believe baseball is corrupt enough to cover up a positive steroid test of one of the best players (read:money makers, which tends to exclude Palmeiro) in the league? Absolutely, and I believe it's currently being done.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 10:41 AM) Renting a DVD, and having it skip during the last 15 min. of the movie, making it unwatchable. We never rent DVD's (usually buy them) and last weekend we borrowed a rented (from Blockbuster) one (Mr. Brooks) and it did the same thing. We totally thought it was our dvd player.
  23. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 10:07 AM) This is what you said: I didn't see that last year and it doesn't seem to the plan this year. I don't know exactly what point you are trying to make. Others seem to understand mine which is that I said it before and when they didn't they s*** themselves. Eventually they will have to break it down and start over. That's what "they are going to go into rebuilding mode" means versus spending money to make them contenders again.
  24. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 09:53 AM) If they are going to do it, they need to do it right. Start trading the established players right now for good, very good, prospects. Don't half ass it. Exactly. And the sooner the better is ideal.
