  1. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 09:40 AM) They did not rebuild last year and it doesn't look like they are planning on doing it this year. And it got them soooo far in the playoffs, didn't it? And to clarify... "the Sox are going to go into rebuilding mode".
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 09:20 AM) Kenny has attempted to trade Garland how many times. What scenario do you really think that Kenny is giving Garland a large fat check for 4 to 5 years. If you are not going to sign him, then get as much on the trade market as you can get. How hard is this to understand. Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch.... For some, it just never gets old.
  3. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 11:47 PM) I just have a sick feeling that we will be signing all bargain players that KW thinks could be big rewards for us. Let's be honest this team NEEDS a Torii Hunter in CF (or Rowand) and another impact bat in the lineup to be above average. Not to menton one more starter and a s*** load in the pen, with all these areas needing improvement, I can only see KW going the bargain route. I don't understand all these sick "feelings"... the facts are staring fans in the face. The Sox have zero chips to play with, nearly zero talent coming down the pipe, and zero desire to spend $150 million for an established roster. As I said this time last year the Sox are going to go into rebuilding mode. They will not compete for the postseason for at least the next 2 years.
  4. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 06:58 PM) No chance. When a GM comes out and says he has concerns about his health, he isn't then going to sign him. And on the other side I'm sure the player would be oh so happy to entertain an offer after just being called (sic) broken down.
  5. Snicker, snicker... This is far from the worst move the Sox could (and likely will) make.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 10:36 AM) There's a big difference between gold diggers and decisive women. And those girls don't know what they want for their life, they know what they want other people to GIVE them. Big difference. Ding.
  7. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 07:36 AM) My disgust for Palmeiro is almost as much as it is for Bonds. And no one here has said anything different. McGuire, same thing, and he won't get in either. I know a lot of people who hate Bonds for using but make excuses for Raffy. Some even hold onto the thought that Tejada tampered with the b12 on purpose (for the record I do not believe MT had anything to do with RP in any medical way, shape, or form). For the record, I never said anyone here has said anything different. I asked when his time comes will the outcry be similar. Sadly, I think Mac will eventually get in.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 11:12 PM) It most definitely saves me time. You bypass a ton of bumper to bumper traffic and it takes 2 minutes to get back in. Hell if it didn't save any time, why would anyone ever do it? Cause they are jerkoffs.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 11:04 PM) BTW, it seems you've turned this into a 'things you hate' list, not necessarily pet peeves. They are pretty much on in the same, aren't they?

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 10:42 PM) When people call Nordstrom, Nordstroms Jewel, Jewels. Ask, Axe. I agree with several of your other ones as well.
  13. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 06:41 PM) Yeah, it's about time for chili and soup. I had some s*** on a shingle for dinner tonight. Yum. Wow.. I have not heard that expression in at least a decade. Love that creamed chip beef. I am also a no bean chili eater.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 07:37 PM) The Girl Next Door I will lay my life on it that if this was done right (and from all I have heard it was), then this is going to be one of the most powerful movies made in YEARS. If you have ever read the book by Jack Ketchum, you know why. I still think that every person alove should be forced to read the book, and those that are not horrified by it need to be locked up instantly. It's the most powerful book written, especially for fiction, on child abuse. If you happen to see it, be forwarned, there is NOTHING CLOSE TO A HAPPY ENDING HERE. An amazing book, and from what I am hearing, the movie does justice. http://www.thegirlnextdoorfilm.com/ I cried (a lot) while reading that book. I think the only book that bothered me even close to that much was that true story about the little girl in Florida many years ago who's mother and her boyfriend abused her for months until she died (I think her name was Ursula - s*** my memory is shot today).
  15. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 09:51 PM) Palmeiro wanted to continue with his career but no one would have anything to do with him. He's a cheater and despite 500 homers and 3000 hits will not be in the Hall of Fame unless he goes for a visit. Bonds was a HOFer before he started juicing. Maybe because he absolutely positively tested positive for steroids... (devil's advocate). Time will tell about his HOF induction, but I don't agree with you. A cheater is a cheater regardless of when he cheated. When Bonds used has nothing to do with the comparison.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) No, we won't be yelling for that at all. We'll be lauging about the 3% of the vote he pulls in despite those accomplishments. If he gets 3% then I imagine BB will be lucky to get half of that (I don't think so, but to appease the masses, I digress). And if that's the case I guess I just don't get all the energy put forth in posting over and over and over again making common knowledge known. Everyone who knows half a squat about Bonds knows what he's accused of. Some choose to look at the glass half full, some half empty. It's just too bad "agree to disagree" doesn't work on BB discussions.
  17. So many ready to light the fire under Bonds... yet Palmerio, "Let me start by telling you this: I have never used steroids, period.", who definitely and knowingly used them has all but been forgotten about. Is his 500hr/3000hit record going to have a "*" next to it? Should it? When it comes time for his name to go on the ballot will all the Bonds screamers also be yelling for Raffy's "record" - a record that only 3 others in all of baseball have - to have a "cheater" label next to it?
  18. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 04:23 PM) Random question for the board... anyone have any experiences with Ford dealerships in Chicago or the surrounding area they'd like to share? Any recommended dealers, or places to avoid? My dad's been dealing with Al Piemonte (sp???) in Melrose Park for the past 12 years. Bought all his trucks there and they've been very good to him.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 11:20 AM) I think Damon might be the only actor in that film who is from the Boston area.....oh wait Marky Mark is also, no? Yea. He's from Dorchester. Had a messy time in his teens. At one point was charged with attempted murder and served time in prison. I loved him in that movie about the Jets player.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 01:34 PM) Or worse yet, the person obviously speeds up to prevent you from merging. That's just being a dick, ha. Oh I've had many conversations with myself over those folks... "Hmmm... well Steff, do you think he saw you and was just being an asshole? Is it possible that he didn't see you? He must have just not seen you. There is no way someone would intentionally do something like that.... " I'm sure these traffic ones alone could add 10K posts to this thread.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 01:31 PM) Totally agree both ways. It makes me feel good when someone does wave, and pisses me off when they don't, especially when their lane is cutting off or there's some other situation where it absolutely is a favor to let them in. I've found way more people do wave than don't, so that's good at least. I make eye contact, roll down my window if necessary, and be sure they see me not only waving but mouthing "thank you". Never know when someone's at the end of their last nerve or trigger happy...

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 10:41 AM) Trust me Steff it isn't nearly as bad there as here. Here, it is a way of life, the social norm. No one RSVPs for anything. I'm sure it happens all over. It's just ridiculous. People should be ashamed to not make the simple effort to call and decline.

    Pet peeves....

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 01:25 PM) I hate when you let someone in front of you in traffic, and they don't wave, like they're entitled to be there and don't give a s*** that you were nice enough to let them in. On the other hand, it always makes my day a little better when the other person waves. Ditto. Hate them almost as much as the asshole that rides the merge lane until the last second, then almost causes an accident to get over. And how about the jerk who sees you with your turn signal on, traffic is stopped, and acts like he doesn't see you to let you in?
