QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 08:03 PM) "sit down. we need to get this thing moving along" lol classic Bill. And there's the money line: "Barack Obama is ready to lead" This is the 4thd time I've watched and cared about these conventions and I have laughed more in the past 2 nights then all the others combined. Bill and Hill can't be beat at public speaking.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 04:12 PM) Yes, I know there is talk of putting it back in for the 2016 games. Unless they can somehow eliminate any doubt about drug use, find a way for all the games to be played in the exact abount of time, get Europe to ease up on their assholish behavior towards the US love of the game, and by far the most important to the IOC, get the pro's to play... baseball will not likely return in 2016. Rogge did an interview with Costas and said the list (though he wouldn't say what they were) of sports competing for the 2 open spots have "great potential". He hates baseball and has openly expressed that he's thrilled it's gone.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 02:52 AM) I hear ya Steff, but as of today who would a better representive of Chicago than MJ? As I said above, if it must be a sports "star", there are many to choose from who aren't cheaters and compulsive gamblers with strong questions of their actions being related to the murder of their father and having been banned from the sport that made them famous for a year.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 10:14 AM) Jordan. No way does a politician get this honor. I agree with no to a politician also, but I also say no to MJ. Someone without dirty laundry to dig up would be a wiser choice. Today a member of either the Sox or Cubs would do. And for 2016 I'm sure a member of the 2015 World Champ White Sox will be worthy.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 11:03 AM) This could be a good time for a rental car company offering up strollers and baby seats for free for people that rent cars from them (obviously they'd have to put down a deposit) but could be a nice marketing gimmick. As a parent I would not use a rentalcar seat. First, there's no way to confirm if it's ever been in an accident, and second they have expirations and I suspect the rental places would remove the labels to be able to maximize their profits and use them past their safety dates. Travel strollers are not that expensive, but since you can rent them pretty much anywhere anyway it's probably something travelers that don't want to lug them along would consider.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 04:27 PM) I didn't say not to raise fares...I'm saying that to raise fares and then start charging for other things like pillows, blankets, food, 2nd bag, shoot, probably 1st bag eventually, those are the kinds of things that are really going to piss off your customers. Lemme give you an example. My wife's family has been planning a trip to Hawai'i for her parents 25th anniversary for 5 years (they are major planners). Well, obviously, you can't get a ticket more than about a year in advance. And honestly, I'm fine with purchasing the tickets at the current price. I mean, it's not ideal, but I understand. What's pissing me off is that our son will be 5 months old then and we are going to be bringing a lot of stuff for him (diapers, formula, pack-n-play, etc) and the airlines are going to be charging for all of it. What am I supposed to do, not take it? Rising prices + losing benefits = alienating the people that use your product. I think people will pay what it costs if they are given a complimentary soft drink, a pack of nuts and a free 2nd bag. You start charging for everything and people will find another way...that's not helping the airlines. And honestly, where the f*** is Amtrak during all this? if I were them, I would be hawking my wares all over the place. I took Bri to Florida for 2 weeks then to Arizona for a week. I bought diapers and formula when I got to both places and I used the cribs provided by the hotels. I got lucky on the car seats because my sister had my nephews I could use in Fla and my girlfriend let me use her sons when I was in AZ. Bri was 3 months old at the time and spent lots of time in onsies and simple outfits. I know it's a bit of a hassle, but you can pack pretty compact for them. I got to take her diaper bag and small stroller on board for free, in addition to my 2 carryons, so that was a help. I agree it sucks - the charges - but it's all they've got aside from raising the flight costs even more than they already have.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 07:47 PM) Im pretty sure that was Chris Nolans decision with his vision of the movies. if another director took over Im sure he would have that option if he wanted it. I just cannot see Christian Bale/Bruce Wayne adopting any kid. Its an awkward story to interject on the Batman plot at any time though. Agree and I hope they don't go that route.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 10:24 AM) That's what I was hinting at, I bet that was the case. The disease he had, sarcoidosis which is an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body's organs, was in remission since before the WS in 2005. He was very open about it. The official COD is "complications due to pneumonia" which could be anything under the sun. I had heard that he had taken a turn for the worse on Wednesday and had to be bagged. FWIH, there was a steady stream of out of town visitors as well so I think those closest to him knew his time was limited. Very sad indeed.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 09:35 AM) Good lord I hope not. That would be franchise suicide in the eyes of fanboys everywhere. Besides, Robin is a Carny, not an accountant I thought I read somewhere that Robin will not be part of the movie franchise again.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 09:57 PM) Finally saw it tonight at Navy Pier. What a fantastic movie. Easily one of my top 3 action flicks of all time. I finally saw it today also and I agree, very fantastic. Thought it was very cool they left in the Illinois plates and the Sweet Home Chicago sign.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 09:55 PM) Yep, you get the shots and you do rehab and THEN, if that doesn't help, as last resort you go under the knife. Congrats on Bri, but it sounds like it went kinda rough. Welcome to wonderful world of back pain. Whatever it is, it doesn't sound good for Joe. I'm sure there will be plenty of "we should have" threads soon enough. As for the latter, it was the bedrest that killed me. But well worth it.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 09:40 PM) I might be thinking of something else. I know there are epidurals that many women get during labor, I think this is what you might be describing Steff. Strictly for pain. I also know that a common treatment for disc injuries is to inject the area with a strong, direct blast of steroids, or anti inflamatories, I think. These are the ones that take a few days before one can see what results, if any they have had. My Dr. suggested it to me and called it an 'epidural'. I've had both - one for Bri and several with steroids for a herniated disk thanks to Bri. And you're right they are 2 different animals, but the feeling of relief, in different ways, was immediate. Also, if he's getting a steroid epidural "all of a sudden" that is suspicious. They are part of ongoing treatment plans almost always with some type of physical therapy, and I've not heard of him having one previous to this or any therapy - though admittedly I've been a bit preoccupied this season.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 08:53 PM) Link conf. "Crede and the White Sox were waiting for the epidural to take effect..." That's kind of odd since once the anesthetic is injected the effects are immediate.
-
QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 08:43 PM) This sounds very bad. I've never heard of epidural after surgery. I've heard of epidurals as a treatment option to try to avoid surgery. Where's a our resident Dr. Ptatc? I'm not Dr. Ptatc, but having done a lot of research on the topic I'll add what I know from that and the doc's. Simply a form of pain management, the "block", level of medication, that Joe would be getting can't be very substantial as if it were he would experience loss sensation, muscle power, and posibly loss of function of the sympathetic nervous system, which controls blood pressure. A level at which he would still be able to function normally would only give relief for, at best, several hours. And in almost all cases the patient is recommended to be confined to a bed because side effects can be life threatening - mainly paralysis of the diaphragm, and loss of function to the heart itself, causing heart rate and blood pressure drop. I don't really understand why he would be getting one unless he is about to have more surgery. Anything else said other than "Joe had an epidural..."?

QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 08:47 AM) I really am a sissy boy, but honestly I believe their superior is on another floor so he isn't around the hear the constant blabbering about random bulls***. Its one of those situations where its like well s*** I just showed up to work I guess I dont have to do anything for the 1st 2 hours or the last 2 hours. I mean I guess you can say the same about myself on soxtalk...BUT...I can still answer the telephones and do my job while conversing with you fools. The best part about it is at least one time a day the most annoying of the three comments about how loud and annoying she is then just laughs and laughs like to rub it in to the other 30+ people on the floor. Well, good luck with whatever you decide to do. Hopefully them moving will solve the problem.

QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 04:07 PM) Here's another update..... So now they are talking about an xmas party and some women flashing and how she was wear ugly granny panties....you can figure the gist of the conversation...but I would think now I have actual grounds to goto HR with a legitamate sexual harrasment case. Ha, it's making me uncomfortable Oh suck it up sissy boy, and keep your mouth shut!! IMO, if you aren't part of the solution in a matter like this, then you are part of the problem. I can't understand any company appreciating or tolerating such actions wasting company dime, especially in this economic climate. And while I'm sure they are out there, I'm glad I have never worked for, or with, such ignorants.

NFL releases new code of conduct for fans
Steff replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Oddly, I find Bears games way more tame than baseball games. We're season ticket holders to both and by far had had many more bad experiences at Sox games than at Bears games - except the MNF game againt Miami, in Miami, 6 or so years ago when they were playing in the hurricane and Miami was winning 800-0. Those fans are rabid! Maybe it's because we are ticket holders and don't have different folks sitting around us every home game like at the Sox games. -
QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 11:48 AM) So I am pretty sure there is really no way to get this across nicely to the person I would like to say it to but just wondering what others would do. So here's the story, So I work in a pretty standard office building with cubicles and different departments on this floor. In the department next to mine (about 15 feet) there sits the most annoying 3 women I have ever heard in my life. The ring leader (older fat ass women) is obnoxiously loud and has one of those laughs that just make you cringe. The other 2 girls, one talks like a mouse (you know those really high pitched voices), and the other talks like she is deaf (I am almost sure she is not b/c I have seen her talk between cubicles w/o reading lips). Honestly I don't think they do any work b/c 6 hours of the day they are talking about random bulls*** from how good the BLT the fat b**** ate for lunch yesterday to what’s up with Jolie and Pitt. After anything is said (even if it’s not remotely funny) the ring leaders laugh goes off then her loud ass voice says something else. Honestly I would be a lot more productive if I didn't have to listen to this s***. I want to go over there and tell them to shut the f*** up and do some work or at least leave an anonymous note on a desk saying the same thing. The only time I get anything done is when the fat b**** is at lunch and it’s quiet in here. Ok good to vent a little bit, so what would you do about it or def post any stories that would go along with this one (it helps to vent a little bit). Take it to HR. Seriously. There was a group like this at the job I left before I had Bri and no one formally complained. At one point one of the gang members heard people talking about them in the lunch room and she filed a complaint, hired a lawyer and got a payday for having to work in a "hostile work environment". The rest followed suit but I left before it was resolved - and I would bet high it was one of the reasons 80+ people were laid off shortly after. These days it takes a paper trail a mile long to get some companies to take action.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) Tell me what you guys think. I was thinking for the groomsmen(5 of them) I would get them a replica T-shirt jersey of their favorite players. The 2 best men, I would get them jerseys of their favorite teams. I'd love that as a gift so I imagine a dude would also.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:46 AM) I'm lame. I got all my guys amazon gift cards in addition to the ties they will be wearing at the wedding. The guys I have standing up are from all walks of life so it would be impossible to find something that they'd all enjoy. Not lame at all. Jim bought the guys a round of golf at the CC we got married at and then $100 gift cards to Golfsmith - because they are avid golfers. I got the gals the pedi's and mani's for the day and $100 gift cards to their regular salons for future services. They all loved it because it was something that wouldn't sit in a box or drawer never to be seen/used again.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 01:10 PM) I just bought tickets for Batman on Saturday at Hollywood Boulevard. That theater is a 15 minute walk from my house and I've never been there. Jim and I have been there tons of times. Very cool experience.

QUOTE (Phil McKrevice @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 08:06 AM) That's what I thought, but I was hoping to be wrong. Somewhat related question: does anyone have an idea how long before gametime the unused players' tickets are released for sale? I'm essentially just looking for a way to buy those on occasion, so if I can narrow it down I can just call the box office at the Cell. Friends and family tickets are released 90 minutes before gametime, but most of the time there are none to be released. The players are usually sure about who's coming to the games. It's the comps that are held on to that you are probably referring to. Those, iirc, are made up of a couple hundred seats from 131 to 134 and I think those go on sale 24 hours before game time or for sell outs the morning of, but in all honesty I don't think there is a set policy. Whatever they feel the demand is dictates what and when they do it I would guess.
