QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 12:46 AM) What numbers you looking at? OPS, which shows how productive a player is by merely adding their slugging percentage and on-base percentage. Pierre has, IIRC, a career .730, while Rowand's crap year last year was .736.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 08:32 PM) Rowand's slugging is better. Rowand: .283 .337 .451 Pierre: .305 .355 .375 Pierre's role as a #2 hitter with us wouldn't be trying to hit homeruns and striking out a lot like Rowand. As is his OPS.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 08:11 PM) But you have to have serious questions about a guy who had a .905 OPS one season and a .736 OPS the next. Maybe pitchers figured Rowand out a bit. I noticed that almost every pitcher pounded him with sliders and offspeed stuff low and away this past season because he will swing and miss at it almost everytime. Maybe 2004 was just a career year for Rowand? Or even worse, maybe Rowand was on the juice? Whatever the case may be, you have to have some concerns about what happened to Rowand from 2004 to 2005. Pierre had a down season in 2005 but he has shown much more consistency offensively than Rowand in his previous seasons. I know I wouldn't mind having Pierre batting second but it would mean that we would also need some serious thumper OPS guys at first base and DH. A high OPS guy at first base and DH, combined with Dye, would be a good enough 3-4-5 of power hitters to make up for the light-hitting Podsednik and Pierre in the outfield. And yet his career numbers are *still* better than Pierre's.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 07:52 PM) This Pierre rumor smells like crap. It makes sense only if you've had a full-frontal lobotomy. Pierre is good player. He has a nice career BA, and has good speed. But he, like podsednik, is a deceptively poor outfielder. Trading a guy who had a .900 OPS in '04 and should have won a GG in CF in '05 for a slap and tickle speedster would be retarded. Especially with Brian Anderson waiting in the wings. Pierre is coming to Chicago, and he will be a good player for the Cubs, but he's not a fit here. Rowand may very well be headed to Florida too, but it won't be for another CFer. We don't need CFers. We do need LHed OPS machines who can play 1B/DH/OF, though. Sound like anyone Florida is currently shopping? That's all i'm saying on the subject. I've wasted too much time already. Took the words right out of my mouth.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) OO I hope this becomees a reality, I am in an NL only Keeper league Blalock would look nice on my roster! Its nice to see Texas realized that they need to trade one of their Corners in order to get pitching. As for FLA, I had a feeling that with Joe G their they would go youth, for the first 2 years, looks like that is what they are doing, retooling for another run. I could see Blalock moving to 1b, with Cabera(sp) being 3b. This would also mean that Juan Pierre and Delgado will be moved for SP help.. Good move for both teams. I dont really want to burst your bubble, but Blalock's numbers away from TBIA are horrid. .707 OPS (including a .611 OPS on the road last year), compared to a .942 OPS at home, and since his first full year as a starter, his numbers have gone down each year. Also, Dolphins Stadium is a pitchers stadium, which would kill his numbers.

QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 04:10 PM) I'll Take Pierre over Rowand any day. Give me the offense he provides along with making the opposing pitcher go out of his game when hes on the pads. Has way more speed than Rowand (doesnt play 385ft away from the plate) and will make the catches out there. Rowand's crappy offensive season last year was better than Pierre's career numbers, but if you really think Pierre is better, thats ok.

http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=43376 And Blalock is a third baseman, not first (although he might switch if traded to the Marlins and they trade Delgado)

No.

Pierre's scouting report after the 2004 season:

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 07:42 AM) Scott's is as well. True, but he's not bound to make probably $6+ million Then again, we might have prospects ready to take both their spots in 2007. I'm not really sure how far along they are, but I'm pretty sure Sweeney is projected for a 2007 debut.
-
I'm not sure how devestating that 1-2 would be. They each are basically the same type of player, and to hit in the 2 hole for Ozzie, you have to have great bat control and move the runner over, like Iguchi did this year. Can Pierre/Pods actually do that? I know they can get slap singles, but I'm not completely sure they have the best bat control in the world to be that effective at the top of the order.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 07:39 AM) Of course our OF defense will definitely be weakened. It also means that 1 of Pods or Pierre probably won't be around in 2007 I'd say, considering the OF prospects we have waiting in the wings. That would be Pierre, since, correct me if I'm wrong, but his contract is up after this year.
-
For their price, defense, and offensive potential, I would rather Aaron Rowand in the outfield than Juan Pierre for the Sox next year. I don't really understand why the Sox want Pierre so much in the first place, or at least, appear to want him so much.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 06:06 PM) You proved my point for me... By the time the season starts, we could resign Frank, trade for Thome, trade for Delgado, or any other possiblity. Talking about how it would be smart to make a trade in the middle of the season doesn't make sense at all since by that time, anything could have happened to our lineup to make that specific trade a stupid one.
-
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) I think KW knows he can't risk trading one of our starters. NONE of them are expendable. If he can somehow bring Thome here by paying little and giving up very little- he shall be praised once again by White Sox nation! There is NO such thing as a White Sox nation..

QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) If they were called up during the year, as they were, then they are on the 40-man. Also: http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...an.jsp?c_id=cws
-
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 04:34 PM) Agreed. However, in all seriousness, it might not be a bad idea come dealine time to trade for him with our current DH situation. We don't even know our current DH, so I don't know how you can say that so early.
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 04:39 PM) I believe that Borchard, Gload, and Anderson were already on that roster, though i can't find an official list to check. If they were called up during the year, as they were, then they are on the 40-man.

QUOTE(shakes @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 04:37 PM) That to me is a sign of durability. He had very similar numbers in 2003 and look how he followed that up. Besides, the M's were awfull last year. What does the M's being crap last year have anything to do with it? That should just mean that he gets less AB's, because the other players on the team can't get on.
-
QUOTE(shakes @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 04:29 PM) Walks? He averages 230 hits a year and an .377 OBP. He's also one of the most unique talents in baseball, for three prospects. I wouldn't flinch. But, unless we give them a proven big league starter it'll never happen. He also has almost 700 AB's a year, and will wear down easily, as shown by last year's decrease in numbers.

QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) People really get wrapped around the axle on arm strength in the outfield, but it only comes into play on a very low percentage of plays. I can see the benefit of a strong arm being a deterent from running, but I think it is somewhat overrated. If a player can cover more ground, then he will actually catch more balls and make more outs with speed, while a weak arm will give up a couple of more advancing runners and sacrifices. So it normally comes down to the lesser of two evils. I can see Pods in CF, but like bschmaranz said, as long as the LF and RF have some guys that will hold runners. Rowand actually made more plays with his feet and glove than he did with his arm, so I don't think it would have that much of an impact as one would believe. The problem with Pods is that he doesnt have an arm, and he gets bad jumps. Thats a bad mix to have in centerfield..
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 03:53 PM) Not a chance in hell I would give up those 3 players for any player not named Albert Pujols. I agree with you there. I'm all for improving the team as is, but if it takes three of our great prospects to do so, especially for someone who doesn't draw the walk all that much, I wouldn't do it.

QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 06:49 AM) I always come here with information on whats going on in the offseason and I broke the Tadahito Iguchi signing last offseason. But heres a site that gives information at the end of player profile for Pablo Ozuna with a 2 year contract being paid $600,000 http://fszcentral.com/athfbl/p172.html ahahahahahahahahahahah best post ever.

No, Pods in centerfield would be a MAJOR decrease in defense, and when this team is built around defense.. just no. Also.. Floyd? That would make me puke..

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 03:34 PM) This joke is going to get old very quickly this year, isn't it? If you consider it a joke.
