  1. I thought the prevailing theory was that Truman feared Russia's advance into Japan which would prolong the war and give them another country. So Truman wanted the war to end immediately. This was the thought about 10 years ago anyway so I have no clue whether it holds any water.
  2. Vizquel stated publicly that they need another bat. I'm not buying any of this chemistry crap. And Manny is not going to pout if they are winning. He's an idiot but he's not cancerous to winning teams. If he's losing then all bets are off. Also the Sox are a perfect fit because he is the biggest star. Say what you want about him but he wants to be at the plate with the game on the line.
  3. Funny thing about the Rays, on May 20th they were 30-11. Since that time they are only 5 over .500 and seem to be falling. I really don't know if the Rays are better than the Sox and Twins right now.
  4. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 07:52 AM) Didn't the magic number dwindle? One less chance for the Twinkies to catch us. Nice job boys! Yeah as long as the Twins lose I can't find myself upset. And it's not like the Twins lost to a good team either. There are going to be losses where the offense doesn't show up. Of course I will be upset if they can't take three games in this series.
  5. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 07:34 PM) A player can be put on waivers for the 2nd time, but if he is claimed, he can NOT be pulled back. Heard Ken Rosenthal on MLB Tonight (Tonight). There are 2 types of waivers: revocable and irrevocable. In August you normally think about revocable and these can only be used once. If pulled back then he can be placed on irrevocable waivers. So if claimed, he cannot be pulled back.
  6. How can you be engaged to someone that hasn't figured out that you post here?
  7. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 01:16 AM) I sat in O'Hare for 5 hours today waiting to see if I could get a flight home after my original flight was delayed twice before eventually being canceled. Then the 2nd flight, which I was on stand-by for, was delayed an hour and a half. Thank God I made it on and didn't get stuck in Chicago tonight. Also, Obama apparently flew into O'Hare today, which caused all flights to be delayed since they grounded everything until after he landed. I think that's ridiculous. Couldn't he have flown into Great Lakes Naval Base or some private airport, and not cause a major interruption in air travel? Politics aside - I don't think any President should do something like that. Of course, the only thing I would understand is if O'Hare is the only airport that could handle Air Force 1 (which is what I'm kind of expecting someone to answer me with...) When Obama came to upstate NY he flew into Albany instead of Stratton Air Force base. Albany's airport is not very big and doesn't handle 747 traffic. I would assume an Air Force or Navy base would be better equipped to handle Air Force 1. So size of the airport is certainly not the issue.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) WWJD You mean Jeremy? Ron Jeremy? Hmmm
  9. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 05:25 PM) Just listened to the score and Bernstien said the White Sox are going to wait until Manny goes through NL waivers before they claim him. Said LA is sick of him and Manny only wants to play on the White Sox. Most importantly, that he isn't actually hurt. He's just being Manny.
  10. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) I'm pretty sure she isnt. Not at in the context of when she said it. How did this even come up? I'm sure you attempted to hide your elation.
  11. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) the idea is EXTREMELY tantalizing. She's not testing you is she?
  12. QUOTE (balfanman @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 08:50 AM) Could the reason that Dayan seems to be swinging at most everything have to do with major league pitching? Pitchers that are in the majors tend to throw more strikes, and even when they miss the plate it usually isn't by much. To Dayan, this may seem like a good buffet restaraunt, he might just be seeing so much that he'd like to hit that he swings at everything. Once pitchers figure out that they can't send up meatballs to him, Dayan just might have the ability to lay off and wait for his pitch. You don't walk off the island. They are trained to swing. And frankly, people are over valuing walks for a guy that has such a large hitting zone. Why should he take a walk when he can smack ball four for a double?
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 2, 2010 -> 10:37 PM) I don't mean that you are necessarily unattracted to them. But say they grow on you in that sense over the course of time... My opinion is that if you are immediately attracted to someone, there is something about that person you will always be attracted to. If it is something that grows on you, it will almost certainly dissipate over time.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 2, 2010 -> 09:49 PM) On another note....how important is immediate physical attraction in a relationship, on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being of the utmost importance. I really don't see the point in being with someone if you don't find them attractive.
  15. This is a fun thread for those of us about to get married.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 2, 2010 -> 06:16 PM) Can't anyone co-sign a loan for you? It doesn't have to be your spouse, does it? Probably depends on the lender but yes as long as the person has adequate assets.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 2, 2010 -> 06:06 PM) Ok, there are cases like that, but the vast majority of divorces are people who honestly believed they wanted to be with one another but were either just wrong, or are bad in relationships. I think most people, when they stand on that alter or in the courthouse, honestly do believe they will be married for the rest of their life to that person. This is the problem with getting married young. They aren't prepared for real problems. Money being number one, but health problems as well.
  18. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 2, 2010 -> 05:58 PM) Should marriage really be a part of everyday factors such as the ability to cosign a loan, have joint custody, etc? I mean, if a person doesnt want to get married should they really have the disadvantage that the system creates? Not everybody will want the marriage label put on themselves even though they are in a committed relationship. Just kinda thinking out loud here. Domestic partner rights are quite common in states. Not so much federally.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 2, 2010 -> 05:31 PM) Because of the number of marriages that end in divorce, and quickly, at that. That's because people get married too young. Marriage before age 25 is not smart.

    Home made fried chicken and collard greens. Recipe comes from Alton Brown for the chicken and the collards is something off recipe zaar and tweaked by my fiancé. Super crunchy chicken with a nice spice element from some cayene. The collards were awesome. A little bacon, onion, garlic, and brown sugar for flavor. Great stuff. We eat it way too often.
  21. Drinking a Dieu du Ciel Equinoxe du Printemps. This is a Scotch ale brewed with maple syrup. I happen to love this brewery. One of the best on the planet. This beer is a bit syrupy in texture and the alcohol is present but not sommich as to be off putting. Think of Raison de Extre if it wasn't so over the top. The description says it all. It tastes like a very god Scotch ale mixed with maple syrup. There is the hint of peet on the pallette bitmfinishes with maple. Certainly interesting. The alcohol flavor makes this a sipper (it is 9.7%) and difficult to say I would grab again. But it goes nicely with this fried cheesecake and ice cream. Oh and Ommegang Zuur is a pretty solid sour. A bit more cherry than I would like but if you see it, might be worth grabbing m
  22. QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) Good ...2 of my faves!!! ...words I mean .. You're not a nun named Bruce, are you?
  23. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 04:58 PM) KW just killed any value Tyler Flowers had. He shouldn't have let it get out they were willing to deal him for two months of Dunn. It's well known right now that Flowers is a bust.
