QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 16, 2015 -> 06:07 AM) Has anyone ever sold anything on Stubhub? Thinking of selling something on there but how do I get my money? Does stubhub send me a check? QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 16, 2015 -> 07:28 AM) I do but if I didn't want to use it, how does it work? I haven't used paypal in a long ass time. Is it hard to get it from your paypal account into your bank account? I seriously have never sold anything online. I'm lame. I am part of a Sox season ticket holder group, and we use Stub Hub to sell many of our unused tickets. For that purpose there is an API, and we can basically just transfer them from our White Sox account to Stub Hub, set a price, etc. They are sold electronically. They take out a commission. As for your situation where I assume you have a hard ticket, the payment angles are the same - you can get them to send you a check, you can credit your credit card I think, or get PayPal'd. But I think in the case of hard tickets, they wait for some period of time before paying you, to make sure the other party got the ticket.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 12:26 PM) I say retire. Easy for a fan to say. For Danks, he's got major league experience, very good defense at all three OF positions and some pop in his bat (when he makes contact). If he enjoys playing, he has every reason to keep doing so, as someone will at least give him a AAA role with the potential for a later call-up.

84-1 on this. Yeesh.

I'm definitely in the camp that says we need one more (preferably RH) starting pitcher to put the team where I would like it to be. Problem is, it seems like what is left in the FA market is Scherzer, Shields, and a bunch of guys not worth signing. Nothing in between. Might need to be a trade somehow.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 07:18 AM) If he keeps going the way he is, he's in. I just don't see him doing it however. The real question later will be other than having his number retired here, will he get a statue also? He's definitely getting a statue. Agree on the rest though - if he keeps being what he is now for another 3-5 years, he's in the discussion. But I think he retires well before that.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 08:18 AM) After Carroll's debut he asked Dunn for recommendations on restaurants that could accommodate 35 family members. Dunn made some calls and told Carroll he got him a reservation - along with paying the full tab. Dunn always was pure class, kinda like Thome. I'd welcome him back to the org. Ah OK, now I remember, I couldn't recall that. I thought Dunn handled himself very well off the field during his time here, totally agree on that.
-
QUOTE (ron883 @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 08:07 AM) Do you think there is any future in the organization for him? Obviously, he may not want to. I think he would be a great clubhouse presence to have around. The scott carroll story is one of the coolest things I've heard a player do. Dunn is the epitome of class. I think the sox owe him a spot in the organization if he wants in. Sure, he didn't live up to the contract, but he was always classy and you knew it weighed in him. I doubt his number gets placed on the outfield wall, but a coaching position I can see Dunn has a baseball camp, entertainment business and a ranch in Texas. I'd say there is little chance, at least short term, he'd want to come back. Also, what does Dunn have to do with Scott Carroll? What story are you referring to?

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 07:50 AM) So it appears I'm going to New Orleans for a bachelor party in March. Anyone ever been there? I think we're staying right in the French Quarter I went down there for a bachelor party weekend once, though that was pre-Katrina (2004 I believe). That town can be... dangerous. In many ways.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 07:38 AM) It won't depend on Hawkins. You take the best player on the board. Regardless of anything else. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 07:46 AM) for many yrs the sox picked a college player instead of a hs'er esp when the hs'er was the best on the board. so again it will be how the sox address their priority. Y2Jimmy0 is correct. No one drafts in the first round for a current MLB team need versus strength. You take the best talent available, period. The HS vs college question is a valid one, but more in terms of risk than about current major league needs.

NCAA basketball 2014-15 thread
NorthSideSox72 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Wow, B12 with SEVEN ranked teams right now. That doesn't include a significantly improved TCU program, or a dangerous KSU team. TT may be the only weak team in the entire conference. -
The Sox not only got Samardzija, they also got: 1. A comp pick if he leaves, which has value 2. An exclusive window to negotiate an extension or new contract - this has value In exchange for four prospects... one of them had fallen out of favor and had no shot (Phegley), one of them could be something maybe but he's a 1B lacking power blocked by Abreu (Ravelo), and two guys they might actually miss (Semien, Bassitt). Make sure you see the whole picture. They didn't trade four prospects for a 1 year rental.

Details herein. Three White Sox pitchers in these leagues.

QUOTE (RaySox @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 05:53 PM) Hey SoxTalk, I'm a pretty young fan and I continuously read these forums for news and conversations about the team I've always loved. I've even bookmarked the site because I check it pretty much every day. So I finally figured, hey, if I'm reading these every day... might as well join in on the conversating! Hope a young sox fan like me is welcome around here Welcome aboard! I hear the FutureSox part of the board is quite good. Seriously though, we love all the new posters that have joined recently. SoxTalk is far and away the strongest, broadest White Sox community on the web.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 10:09 AM) There are many ways to do this, from extensions that allow you to download YouTube video/sound, to programs that allow you to decrypt and rip a DVD into a more computer friendly format, allowing you to then drag and drop the data file(s) into a video editor. Then there are a lot of video editors, but for this specific use case, Windows Movie Maker (or whatever they call the current version of this) on a PC, or iMovie on a Mac can perform the tasks you're looking to perform, quite easily. Thanks! This is helpful.

Video editing question... Let's say you wanted to create a video clip, which was just a specific few seconds of a movie. I have literally never done video editing before. I am not sure yet if the video will exist somewhere on the interwebs either, so, here are the scenarios: 1. Assuming I can find on YouTube or the like, is there a way (without expensive software) to download the video, clip out the part I want and save it? 2. Since I have a DVD of the movie, if I put that into my computer's disc drive, could I clip it out from there? Any help is appreciated!

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 09:34 AM) Yes. what? I have to strongly disagree. Taylor messed up at least once while I was watching, but overall he's actually a pretty good outfield defender. That's part of why they picked him up. He is basically replacing Jordan Danks, which means the 5th outfielder and mostly in Charlotte.

Baseball Prospectus Top 10 list is out

QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 08:16 AM) I'm not a BP member, but could you tell us if the ranking is more about BP being really high on Anderson, not liking something about Rodon, or possibly both? I don't want to quote material directly from behind a firewall, but in general, BP has been really high on Anderson. More so than other pubs. But they did also indicate Rodon could use a little more polish, and a couple other relatively minor quibbles. -
Here is the BP Top 10 White Sox Prospects list. Great depth in the write-ups. Rodon at 2, Beck at 6 are surprises to me. Also, they seem to think Sanchez has a higher ceiling and long term value than Micah Johnson.

I still don't think the Cubs have anything close the pitching talent necessary to be serious contenders this year.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 10:17 AM) You sure that he doesn't have an option left? Pretty sure we determined that he did on here earlier this winter. Could be just imagining that though. Fairly irrelevant at this point anyway. I'm not 100% sure. I just now he was majors and minors in 2012, 2013 and 2014. I'm fairly confident that means he has used 3 option years.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 10:07 AM) I don't think he does either, because he still has one option left I believe. Does that mean he can't opt out of his contract because he still has options? Actually he does not have any options left, as he used option years in 2012, 2013 and 2014. He's also got 7 pro seasons. He's still under team control, but if they DFA him off the 40, I do believe he can refuse assignment. Not sure he would though.
-
I can see DFA'ing Danks before Wilkins. Need that bat insurance in Charlotte behind LaRoche and Abreu more than you need a 6th OF. However, I am really surprised that Leury Garcia wasn't DFA'd. He, to me, was the obvious choice.

If you want to see how Avisail Garcia, Carlos Sanchez and a handful of minor leaguers did in Venezuela this winter, we've got you covered here.
