QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 11:03 AM) Small weight-wise, he's very tall. Looking at some video previously, he looked really skinny to me, and had a high effort delivery.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 07:45 PM) Shirek's in the bullpen now? This seemed like a likely scenario beginning last year. He'd had success along the way, but he seemed to never go very deep into games, and typically ran out of gas as the season went on. He's also got good velocity and one good secondary pitch, but that's really it. As a reliever, he can put more on the fastball and strike more guys out. Also, he's a bit small for a guy who throws 95, and this may help protect his arm.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 03:23 PM) My cynicism will reach new highs (lows?) if the tea party Republicans maintain or gain strength in 2012 after their performance thus far. I'd bet money they won't. The problem is, part of what they are saying and attempting to do is exactly what everyone feels needs to be done - reign in an unsustainable federal spending regimen. But the way they are going about it is outright stupid, and will alienate centrist voters, who they need in order to be elected or re-elected. That 80%+ of the budget that makes up Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, military and debt service? Yeah, no plans to do anything about that. But that 5% of the 20% of the budget in discretionary spending that they plan to target? That 1% of the budget? Boy, they sure are happy to cut that - especially if they can cut only the 30% of the 1% that is not politically aligned with their beliefs. Have fun with that 0.3% you are attacking. That should solve everything. Jackasses. -

You had to know that the Sox wouldn't stick with 6 relievers for long. So if you are looking at sending down Lilli or Milli, its really pretty simple: Lillibridge is much more versatile defensively, and Milledge looked pretty bad in the field. You don't really expect either to hit for much, so... seems like the logical choice.

Some decent pitching performances all around. I really started being intrigued by Dylan Axelrod last year, although he's a bit old for his level at 24 (turns 25 during the season). Can't find much scouting info on him though. Anyone know anything? And you have got to be kidding me with Kenny Williams Jr not only starting, but leading off, for B-Ham. Is Greene hurt?

QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 09:49 AM) Milledge was just DFA Whoa, really? So who comes up, De Aza or Gartrell? Or a pitcher? -
Wasn't sure where to put this, but I thought it was worth noting on multiple fronts... remember how Scott Walker, before this whole Union fiasco, immediately pissed off more than half his state by rejecting nearly a billion dollars in federal rail funding? Well now there is another wave of money out there for high speed rail improvements, and his administration is actually applying for some of it. Apparently he realized his mistake, if a bit late. The funny thing is, a big chunk of the new money comes from the money Florida turned down. So... Walker rejects federal high speed rail money, saying its a waste and won't work... Florida governor does the same thing... Walker asks for some of Florida's money.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 02:49 AM) The sooner we realize Matt Thornton is NOT a closer the better off we'll be. Keep him as the setup guy where he's dominated the past few years. Based on one game?

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 09:56 PM) Barons roster set: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/ar...sp&sid=t247 LOL, there are at least three players' names misspelled on that list.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 08:24 PM) As soon as anyone ever refers to healthcare as "Obamacare" you can't get me to listen anymore. Anyone else the same way? I laugh, since what ended up actually passing is a gnarled, demented shadow of what Obama was actually wanting to do. That animal I put 90% on the Dem Congress.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 05:49 PM) What was it Lewis Black said, the democrats were a party of no ideas and the republicans were a party of bad ideas? I think its the opposite, but, either way might work. Point remains the same. -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 03:37 PM) Ah, so basically you're stereotyping his audience as being poor and uneducated based on the fact that they don't buy Mercedes. I get it. I like eggs.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 5, 2011 -> 08:39 PM) Usually they will give you the option of checking whether it is ok to contact your previous employer or not. They will fully understand if you do not want them contacting your present employer. As for your salary history, get accustomed to it. It's pretty status quo these days. I agree with you though, it sucks. But your answer to that is to ask for what you believe your market value is, not what your current salary is. That's only if its a CURRENT employer, so that they protect you from getting in trouble. Any previous employer is fair game. And in fact, if you tell them not to contact any non-current employer, that will be a red flag.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 02:37 AM) I wonder how many backup players we will see tomorrow with a day game after a night game. Probably Castro, especially since Francis is a lefty. Milledge maybe? Vizquel? I'm sure Lillibridge won't be starting. Well with Dunn out, and the lefty pitching, I'd expect a lineup something like... Pierre, 7 Beckham, 4 Rios, 8 Konerko, 3 Quentin, 9 or 0 Ramirez, 6 Teahen or Milledge, 0 or 9 Castro, 2 Vizquel, 5 Teahen is a lefty but they will put him in there to get some at-bats, so I'm not sure if he plays or not. Rios hasn't had a day off but he finally had a game with the bat yesterday, so I doubt they sit him. -
QUOTE (farmteam @ Apr 5, 2011 -> 09:35 PM) Well, part of me would be a little scared by the very slim chance one of the two right wing crazies would win. Obama would have to do something Nixon-like, AND have a serious second recession dip, for that to happen. Extremely unlikely.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 08:14 AM) Yet another study backing me up. That should be... societal, political and FINANCIAL will, and ability. There is no doubt in my mind that it can be done. The problem is, it takes a significant up front investment to get those long term rewards, and no one has the money right now. What money there is (this is the political part), people would rather spend on other things, which in my opinion is often stupid... but that's the situation we are in.

QUOTE (High Mileage @ Apr 5, 2011 -> 03:27 PM) I'm excited for the Sox to come to town, I just don't want my boys to get swept. We've pounded Gavin Floyd (3-7, 4.79 ERA in 11 starts/1-4, 6.26 in 6 starts @ Kauffman) pretty well in the past, but of course there's been a lot of turnover in our line-up. Hochevar has pitched well against the Sox (3-3, 3.65 ERA in 7 starts, including his only career shutout) but you never know what he's going to give you... On the road with an apparently bad pitching matchup... I'll be fine with a 1-1 split this series, but a win tonight and I think a sweep is likely. By the way, still love that avy. That swing is like a hitting clinic in one little gif. -
QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 5, 2011 -> 03:31 PM) Now that would be UNREAL! wow. I'm glad I worked my tail of over the last couple months... this is going to be the time of his life and it's with such joy that I embark on this journey. I'll be in Chicago in under 24 hours! Awesome Fantastic seats, higher end food that they bring to you along with drinks (all inclusive), buffet and a lounge in the back, special parking. I haven't done it, but its supposed to be fantastic.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 4, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) Not sure where to put this... But did you guys get emails that Epsilon's database was hacked? A lot of email addresses were stolen, but supposedly no personal information (riiight). I have gotten emails from Chase bank and now from my company, explaining that my email address may have been stolen... Best to be monitoring your credit reports/scores closely... I've gotten at least three of them. It was an email system hack, so its probably true that its just names and email addresses. They'll use it for phishing probably. But I would recommend, as always, that you monitor your credit report anyway.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 4, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) I dont agree that we should completely turn a blind eye, I think that we should do our best to help those we can. The situation in Libya was far different from the Ivory Coast, and therefore warranted a different strategy and response. i completely understand people who do not want the US to get involved at all, I just dont understand those people who argue against Libya, because the UN is acting different in Ivory Coast. Its as if people believe that there is some one size fits all response to global crisis. I believe that in post World War II society we as a nation have a duty to try and prevent countries committing genocide against their civilian population. I also understand that we are limited in what we can do. But just because we cant help everyone, does not mean we shouldnt help anyone. People who don't want the US to get involved in foreign wars and affairs at all are living in fantasy-land.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 4, 2011 -> 02:08 PM) For some of them sure...but we involve ourselves in many things that have no bearing on us...like Libya...we get NO oil from them. Let the EZ handle them from the get go, they're the ones that get resources from there...not us. We absolutely get oil from Libya for all financial purposes. Any country that exports oil onto the world market, their oil production has a direct and definite effect on us. You cut off Libya's oil, and you and I are paying a lot more for gas at the pump. This is the way the oil markets work. Now, if the US got to the point where their domestic production was enough to satisfy its own internal needs (or very close anyway), then the US could in theory back out of global markets for its purchases. The way prices are going, that is actually a real possibility. But to do that, you have to bring US demand way, way, way down, you have to increase domestic production (which can be done from existing sites by the way), and you have to re-tool some of the refinement infrastructure.

Saw Source Code over the weekend. I wasn't thinking anything of it in the previews, but the positive reviews convinced me to see it. And it was pretty good. Stretches reality in some places, but very well done, and I am glad I saw it. B+.
