Minor League Catch-All thread 2009 edition
NorthSideSox72 replied to southsider2k5's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 01:22 PM) Logan got back to me, sorry it took me so long to get it up. Thanks! -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 11:20 AM) Mitchell will not play CF at the big league level. I wish people would stop thinking that just because he has speed he is a CF'er. With him in a corner and JorDanks in CF, we will cover a TON of ground. You cannot possibly know that now, or even a year or two from now. The declarative, absolute statement that he won't is sort of ridiculous. Just curious, though, what make you think that he won't? What gives you your opinion?

Arizona Lawmakers Looking To Sell State Capitol
NorthSideSox72 replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 12:48 PM) they may not have a mortgage, but they may have some sort of capital improvement bonds/building bonds, etc. They could retire that debt, take the bond payments off the books, get a cash infusion, and move the cost of renting the building to an "operating" expense. Actually, I'm nearly 100% positive that they do. According to Moody's. Government Office Lease Revenue Refunding Bonds(Capital Mall L.L.C. Project) Series 2005 Sale Date: 27 SEP 2005 Sale Amt: 87.65 Description Rating Rating Date Last Rating Action Watch Status Insured A1 13 APR 2009 RATING AFFIRMATION Not on watch Underlying A1 22 APR 2009 RATING AFFIRMATION Not on watch Arizona Government Office Lease Revenue Bonds (Capitol Mall L.L.C. Project), Series 2000 Sale Date: 14 NOV 2000 Sale Amt: 89.78 Description Rating Rating Date Last Rating Action Watch Status Insured A1 13 APR 2009 RATING AFFIRMATION Not on watch Underlying A1 22 APR 2009 RATING AFFIRMATION Not on watch That looks like bonds for paying for new office space somewhere around the capitol, not the capitol itself. And those bonds would be much smaller than the amount of value of the land and buildings of the capitol anyway. Its an incredibly stupid move. -
Manny and Big Papi tested positive for steroids in 03

I'm betting there is a 50/50 chance that Congress attempts to force the list to be published in the near future. I am not sure how that would work legally, but depending on the type of agreement made originally, an act of Congress could potentially crack it open. If they can, I bet they will. -
White Sox Interested in Trading Fields for Pie

If we get Pie and Wise is still on the team... I don't even know, but I'll be livid. -
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) What was Alexei trying to do in the first place? What an idiotic slide. If he just did a normal take out slide, he would have never got injured. Also, it seemed to me he overexaggerated his injury. Sure, it hurts, but he spent a good minute or two just rolling around on the turf. Does anyone else get the feeling he has vaginitis? He doesn't like to stay in 2B hard when he is turning DP's, he doesn't do good take out slides, everytime he gets some chin music he hits to deck and lies there for a minute, he always covers his head on pickoff throws to first, he seemed to get his feelings hurt when AJ called him out, etc. He's coming close to Alex Rios territory. You managed to be both impossibly psychic (overexaggerated his injury) and offensive (vaginitis?) in one post. Good job. Also, have you ever had a severly sprained ankle? Because I can tell you it hurts like hell. Hurts worse than when I have broken bones before.

QUOTE (Pumpkin Escobar @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 11:29 AM) The season is made of streaks. Before that - we werent 23-12. We were nearly opposite at some points. You can pick out spots of brilliance with everything or negatives with everything. Eventually you have to look at the whole body of work. That says we are the 3rd best team in the Central because we are in 3rd and cant beat the 2 teams in front of us. Or most the teams remaining on our schedule for that matter. You missed the point. The previous poster said the team was only capable of "small streaks", which clearly is not the case.

QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 11:10 AM) Then I would expect us to get swept the next week versus LAA. This team is NOT good enough or consistent enough for the long haul. While it's good enough (at least the starting pitching) to go on small streaks and maybe even win a series against a very good team (such as we did v. Tampa Bay), this team is just so mediocre that success will be fleeting. We followed up a 3 of 4 over Tampa Bay and a perfect game by losing 6 of our next 7. Sox can only win the AL Central if the rest of the division wins no more than 81 games. Our 24-18 record since early June says otherwise, and that INCLUDES the losing 6 of 7. Before that it was 23-12, in a streak that lasted over a month, which is not a "small" streak.

QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 10:46 AM) how many people change their tune in this thread if we beat the yankees this weekend???? IF we take 3 of 4 from NYY, that changes a lot of things for the better.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 10:41 AM) I don't see how you guys think it will be a defensive upgrade. Nix is a great defender but I don't know if he's proven he's a great defender at SS and Beckham clearly would be a defensive downgrade. Alexei started the year erratic but looking OK, and I thought he'd improve. Instead, he seems to be regressing. I think defensively, Nix is probably a slight upgrade right away, if I had to take a guess. But Nix won't be near the hitter that Alexei is. And I am not so sure Beckham is a clear downgrade - probably short term he is, but maybe not. Long term, since Alexei doesn't seem to be improving, I think Beckham might be an upgrade over Alexei.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 10:28 AM) People who are over the age of 30 and have a Disney countdown in their sig should be slapped. sez the guy with a unicorn and a naked man in his avatar.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:11 AM) Funny People this Friday. Might have been worth seeing if the lead actor was actually funny. Adam Sandler? Fail.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 12:08 AM) Plus, it would make Jenks expandable in the offseason as we could place Sherrill in the closer spot and know we'll get solid results I think Jenks is already pretty expandable.

I'd be surprised if more than 10% of those threads on the site actually happened. Also, I couldn't possibly pull this off. If I ever texted someone and used a phrase like "when are you gonna let me tap that", everyone I know would think someone else had stolen my phone.

QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 03:56 PM) I still have winning 1 softball game on my agenda.LOL We're playing a team tonight who is 1-4 and is called "Toons Cubz". We'd better the hell win.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 04:22 PM) Right, and some dont warrant a full stop, but I just see too many people on bikes totally ignore any rules of the road and then they are upset when they jeopardize their own lives and lives of others. I am an avid biker, but I do it in a reasonable manner, and if I want to ride fast, I do it on the lakefront. That lakefront path, anywhere from downtown north, in the afternoons and evenings, is more dangerous that riding in city traffic IMO. I wouldn't go near it. 8 zillion walkers and bikers of all different speeds and not paying attention. I'd rather take the street. It works well in the very early morning though.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 12:03 AM) I would freaking love to do that. I'm thinking about moving down to Birmingham now! There even used to be some major league clubs that did something like that. Not sure if any of them still do.

D2 struggling a bit lately. Kevin Dubler, last year's highest catcher selection for the Sox, finally showing a pulse in Great Falls after an awful start. Hitting .308 in his last 10 games with half his hits for doubles, hits in 6 of his last 7 starts. He was giving up a lot of playing time to NDFA Chase Blackwood, but now they have reversed and Dubler is getting the majority of the playing time.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:16 PM) Perhaps he got a D-I scholarship and wants to spend a year having fun and playing baseball at the NCAA level. That's a good point, he may be going to a serious program for his last two years of college.

Sox sign pitcher out of Golden Baseball League...
NorthSideSox72 replied to JPN366's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 01:31 AM) Story Don't know where he's been assigned yet. How odd. He gets drafted out of high school, drafted twice in college, finishes his last year at 11-1 and then DOESN'T get drafted. Weird. -

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:13 PM) its cash flow too... maybe they want to get out of long-term debt obligations that they currently have. (if there is a mortgage on the property) eliminate say a $50k/mo mortgage payment for the next 20 years, to take on a $30k/mo rent payment instead. Cash flow savings $20k/mo. You think they have a mortgage on the capitol? I highly doubt that. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:08 PM) Actually, that would do almost nothing to get us off of oil. Like I said, that study doesn't include transportation at all. It is entirely electricity/energy generation, coal, natural gas, processes in factories, heating/cooling, etc. There's plenty of other stuff to be done with oil, but it's not in that study. And since 60% of the stimulus bill was tax cuts...we're not spending $500b on construction either. Wars, yeah, that's a good $2-3 trillion. Just keeping you honest My reply was an attempt at Kaperboletm. Anyway though, energy generation does indeed take oil, along with gas and coal. Various types of oil and gas in fact.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 07:38 PM) If that is the case, then they need to enforce the rules better/faster -- having rules with no enforcement is as good as not having any rules. I'm tired of them letting this stuff go on and then 5 years later going after people -- while others suffer in the mean time. CFTC has been treated like the SEC's ugly stepchild for years now. BushCo in particular, cut their budget and investigative division big time, while increasing SEC's funding. Hard to enforce when you don't have investigators.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 07:57 PM) McKinsey & Co. Study: the U.S. could blow past the Waxman-Markey requirements by 2020 easily through fairly robust energy efficiency efforts, and at the the same time save over $700 billion in energy costs over the next 10 years (investment of $500 billion gives $1.2 trillion return in the form of cost savings)...and at the same time cut carbon emissions by the equivalent of the entire U.S. vehicle fleet. And that is without doing anything at all regarding installation of renewable energy generating capacity or doing anything at all to increase the efficiency of the automobile fleet. It takes serious regulatory work and actually challenging the energy companies, but the numbers are gargantuan. And it's all effectively waste; money and CO2. Yeah but apparently we'd rather spend the $500B on construction jobs, government health care, wars, and everything the hell else. Nevermind that energy infrastructure changes are without a doubt the best ROI candidate. No no, we can't be getting off our oil, now, can we? We have to create LOW paying jobs! Tech sucks, why invest in that?

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 05:02 PM) http://online.wsj.com/article_email/SB1248...ODcyNDg1Wj.html I'm sure this has already been posted -- but it shows the rules in place aren't enough. Clip from the story: "The Commodity Futures Trading Commission plans to issue a report next month suggesting speculators played a significant role in driving wild swings in oil prices -- a reversal of an earlier CFTC position that augurs intensifying scrutiny on investors. In a contentious report last year, the main U.S. futures-market regulator pinned oil-price swings primarily on supply and demand. But that analysis was based on "deeply flawed data," Bart Chilton, one of four CFTC commissioners, said in an interview Monday." When the report is actually released, we'll see if the rules in place are or aren't enough. If people broke the existing rules, then the rules don't need changing.
