  1. If he can pick up a Marquez type that has years of control to fit the window this team is looking at, that is a different story. Even if you lose a guy to an injury, you at least have them back for a couple/few more years. If that happens with a Lynn type, you completely lose the deal and gave away parts of your future reinforcements to do it.
  2. Which again, is the worst possible scenario if they aren't willing to spend.
  3. If you won't even acknowledge your own posts, you need to just move on.
  4. That is literally the point. You have these guys, but are already getting rid of them, which means you lose chances to get to the top down the road. You got there accidentally, but you got there.
  5. How are the Sox in the Dodgers league after adding just one SP? I would like to see it explained.
  6. They absolutely need SP to step up. But they will also need those guys down the road. But does that put them into the LAD/NYY/TBR category for 21? Like I said, I don't see it. I think we need two more starters and a big impact at either DH or RF before we can start to talk about that. The other reason those teams are so good is their depth. If one guy goes down, they have another that can step in. That is a very important thing over 162 games and into the playoffs. They also have guys who can step in from season to season.
  7. Do you really think adding Lance Lynn puts the Sox in the top tier of teams in 21?
  8. I understand that Lance Lynn is good. But you only get 2021 out of him. In 2022 you have neither Lynn, nor everything you have given up for him.
  9. My biggest fear is that the TLR hire is an excuse not to spend. If Jerry really convinced himself that the problem was managment, and with a few trades and TLR at the top he can just old school manage his way to the top, we will see the worst of both worlds as we shorten our window and piss away years of this core.
  10. And if we aren't going to spend, why would we rush to give away reinforcements?
  11. Today? No I am not in a big hurry to do so. A year or two down the road that might change, but as of now, the window has barely opened.
  12. So you made a point about not being willing to give a way 1 year AND mentioned trading Dunning and Cease for Lynn, but you aren't talking about giving guys away. Ok.
  13. And if you are going to trade, make sure the guys you give up, match the length of the return you are getting back.
  14. There is a difference between starting all kids, and trading them all away for 1 year of control, you understand that right?
  15. I have zero problems with adding another starter up front in free agency, adding a depth starter, and then letting Lopez, Cease, Kopech and Dunning battle it out for the last spot or two. You own all of these guys rights for 4 to 7 years still, why waste that ownership? The need to act rashly just isn't prudent here. You have all of these assets, why not try to maximize them as the cheapest possible options for your own team? What I don't want to do is start giving these guys away after a minimal amount of major league struggles and then needing them down the line after they break out when the guy who you got in the deal has left in free agency.
  16. Pitchers struggle every year, sometimes even really good ones. How quickly do we quit on each pitcher? Dylan Cease still has yet to pitch an entire season's worth of games. Lucas Giolito was a complete failure after his first year. Were you trading him away for a pitcher with one year of control? Greg Maddux's first year and a half in MLB were Cease-esque. Randy Johnson didn't start to get it until 26, but was still leading the world in walks at ages 26-28. Carlos Carrasco struggled in parts of 4 different major league seasons before breaking out at age 27. Trevor Bauer didn't put up an ERA+ of over 100 until his 3rd full season in the majors, plus two more partial ones. Lance Lynn himself is two seasons removed from an 84 ERA+ season with his career world BB/9 stat. I could go on and on here, but hopefully the point is clear by now.
  17. So what you are saying is that you would have released Lucas Giolito after 2018?
  18. Good to know that players can never grow and change, and will always be the same in perpetuity. I wonder why we had management changes if nothing else was going to change and only trades and free agency can save us?
  19. Yes. The longer term arriving crowd is very important for this to be a Cubs type of rebuild, or a Dodgers/Yankees type of one where this isn't like a 3-5 year thing, but a long term thing for the White Sox. This franchise HAS to learn how to produce its own prospects a high rate.
  20. With the pitching coach change, I would like to see this group given at least one new year for sure.
  21. Or, I could try to make my point with the team I do like.
