  1. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 09:57 PM) Always Trade Relievers™ For a top 100 position player prospect? Yep.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 05:44 PM) If we accepted that package, it’s not even a sure thing we get Devers or Moncada for Eaton, let alone Kopech and Basabe. Comes down to believing we actually could receive Robles, Giolito and Lopez or Dunning for Sale...or all four. Yeah, I don't know that the Washington package for Sale wasn't better, but the combination of what we got for both Sale and Eaton, I don't think that could have been topped.
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 03:08 PM) Assuming he doesn’t go out for the 8th, this will be Clarkin’s final line: 7 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 6 K, 0 BB Excellent start to to season for him. And only 93 pitches.
  4. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 03:51 PM) Not if HeGoan Moncado doesn't step it up, which he we all think he will. Sale could have theoretically been traded for a different package as well. No matter what happens, the Sox needed to make this deal. Supposedly a good chunk of the Eaton package is what started out as the offer for Chris Sale.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 12:45 PM) If the rest of the games get played today, 20 out of 241 games will have been postponed (8.3%). Bad year. Historic. Apparently there was only 25 postponements all of last season in MLB.
  6. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 07:55 AM) Thanks but no problem. He/she couldn't defend his point so he resorted to name calling. You know if you had actually stuck to the topic and not dropped down to insults as a substitute for knowledge, I might have been bothered by this. But seeing as that isn't true, I am really not worried. If you would actually like to stick to the topic at hand for once, Moncada is this teams leadoff hitter. The White Sox are not panicking over a small sample size of bad ABs. They want him at the top of the order as they think his skillset plays best there. Since you think Tim Anderson is some kind of relevant example here, you probably should also go back and look at the box scores from last year to realize that Anderson didn't get dropped to 7th nearly this early in the season, and it didn't happened until the trauma of having his childhood best friend murdered obviously was getting to him. They are two different situations, completely.
  7. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Apr 14, 2018 -> 02:20 PM) Actually your response should go to the circular file. I will help you out. Basically Anderson got dropped in the order because he was struggling hitting at the top of the order. Most likely his struggles were caused by an off the filed incident. I think we will see Moncada dropped lower as well if he continues to struggle leading off, rebuild or not. It would be a help if you actually paid attention to reality.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 14, 2018 -> 10:29 AM) I think Russia loves having Trump in charge. They know they are one complement away from having him in the palm of their hand at any moment. I don’t actually think Russia might have set this whole nerve gas attack up knowing Trump would have to take action and probably scoring him some points in the US while taking the focus off other things. But I actually am sad I think it is at least slightly possible. He did spent a lot of years support the king of wag the dog in Bill Clinton.
  9. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Apr 14, 2018 -> 09:48 AM) Your logic? He was struggling w a personal issue so it was okay to drop him down in the order because he was not hitting? It appears he is in a better mental state this year but again he is still down in the 7th spot. I would think if he is considered a key to the rebuild, he would be hitting higher up like Moncada to get him more AB's. My logic. Renteria is using a batting order that is constructed to win games and Anderson is not a top of the order guy. Now if he hits consistently and Moncada still struggles, I bet they flip them. This is circular logic at best, and at worst a terrible comparison between two non-related situations. We are not trying to win games this year. This is a rebuild. This is not a team trying to compete for a division title. This is a rebuild. If confused, re-read the above line.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 14, 2018 -> 09:43 AM) By that he meant that his mission to get the MSM to stop talking about his criminal connections for a few hours was a success. And instead get Russia talking about nuclear war.
  11. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Apr 14, 2018 -> 08:44 AM) You didn't answer the question. How do Anderson's struggles justify him being dropped to 7th but Moncada should not get dropped because it would hurt his confidence. I did. Someone shot Tim Anderson's best friend to death. It is different.
  12. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 05:38 PM) Was winning a priority last year?. Because Anderson began the year hitting at the top of the order, struggled in April and was dropped to 7th. Shouldn't Anderson be batting 2nd to get him more AB's and speed his development? I think Renteria makes up a batting order w the intention of winning that game and not appeasing young players. Maybe I am wrong. Anderson's struggles are not the same as Moncada's.
  13. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 04:53 PM) That may be true but if a player is really struggling, you need to help them. I agree on not dropping the switchhitting ( he is struggling from both sides) but changing the spot in the order may change his mental approach to hitting. By saying we don't want to do anything in case we hurt his confidence, that infers winning is not a priority. In a rebuild, we have to expect less quality but the team still has to try and win. You have to live with young players going through growing pains but you disregard trying to win also. I know there is a fine line and some decisions are difficult to make. Winning is not a priority in 2018. Taking lumps and developing players is the priority for this season, and until the team shows they are close enough to the playoffs to have a realistic chance at winning.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 04:45 PM) K.C. Johnson ? Verified account @KCJHoop 4s5 seconds ago More Bulls win tiebreaker drawing with Kings. Bulls slot 6th, Kings slot 7th heading into May 15 draft lottery. Both own 5.3% chance at No. 1 pick and 18.25% chance at moving into top 3. Hooray! The big thing we have to hope for is that no one from 7-14 moves ahead of us.
  15. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 04:20 PM) What is the progression of Kris Bryant’s z-contact rate? Because, without looking at the numbers, he improved his K-rate from approximately 30% in his rookie year to 19% last year. So improvement is totally possible. And even as a Moncada “hater”, I’ve noted it seems like he Ks looking a lot (although I don’t have stats on that). That should improve with time. Bryant is also a pretty terrible comp for Moncada. Bryant is an older polished college hitter. Growing up in the states, he got exposed to better coaching and to a more solid fundamental base than Moncada did in Cuba. Bryant also made his major league debut at Age 23, even after all of that extra experience. For my two cents if I am going to talk about this kids learning curve, I would rather look for comps with similar backgrounds.
  16. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 04:16 PM) He destroyed AAA , what more can he develop there? How to beat up on AAA pitchers? MLB is tough. Some players take time. Some even take years.
  17. Just came across the wires, the game for tonight is post-poned. No new date announced as of yet.
  18. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 02:33 PM) when soxtalk was down I went to WSI and saw about half the front page was filled with threads like this one and noped the f*** out as fast as I could. Nope.
  19. I think college and minor league relievers are the new moneyball. Fight me.

  21. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 11:17 AM) I know I'm late but White Sox Dave has been saying early to mid May for Kopech, for whatever it's worth If they still have him down today, there really isn't much of a good reason to not wait until after the Super Two deadline and call him up in the middle of June.
  22. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 11:24 AM) Have you noticed that JR has disappeared from the scene? He use to appear on TV and radio and would grant interviews with the papers. No more. He has been MIA for a long time. No I have not.
  23. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 10:38 AM) Not true anymore. It is actually quite the opposite in most sports now. Either a player is good right away or they're no good at all. There is no margin for error anymore. Trout, Bryant, Lindor, Correa, are among baseball's top players and they came up, got on top and are staying there. Not to say that a more traditional development path can't still be successful, but if a player comes up and struggles he's more likely to completely wash out than become a star eventually. Say what? I mean, let's go with a list back. Corey Kluber, Josh Donaldson, Byron Buxton, Xander Boegarts, Jackie Bradley, JD Martinez, as a starter list.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 09:36 PM) Awesome, loved Tejada but I thought CWS can't sign any J2 guys for another year No guys over $300k. They can sign as many $300k guys as will fit under the caps.
