Rob Young @RobertHYoung 4h4 hours ago 16' 6th rounder Luis Curbelo is a prospect to dream on. Nick Hostetler said every time he plays he has been the best hitter on the field. Looks tremendous. Been unlucky with injuries, but still only 20 years old #WhiteSox

QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 01:19 PM) I wish we would just move Rodon to the bullpen already. This is more pre-mature than a virgin on prom night.

QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 12:37 PM) They're trying to get his salary off the payroll so they can get Darvish and stay under the luxury tax. If they cut him, his money counts, so better to exhaust all possibilities of trading him before releasing him. I would imagine at some point they get someone out there to pick up $10 million/yr or so if they can get a deal done with Darvish. The more prospect price they are willing to pay, the more money they can get picked up. We are seeing that happen more and more over time. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 12:51 PM) There isn't a pitching staff that exists that couldn't use Chris Sale. I would hope we'd have a better use of $250 million or so by then with all of the pitching we have in the system right now.
-
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 11:16 AM) How cool and ironic would it be to sign Sale in 2020? It would mean we failed with a whole lot of pitching prospects.

Sox expecting to open '18 with both Avi and Abreu

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 11:19 AM) What? Projection systems are the definition of objective. They may not be smart enough to identify potential breakouts with any level of precision and are most definitely conservative, but they are 100% fact based and don't rely on personal feelings or biases like all of us here do at times including myself. As for Avi, of course there are a wide range of outcomes and generally speaking they're moving in a positive direction from his career norm. I've said that multiple times in this thread. All I've been arguing this entire time is that there is far more certainty that his BABIP will regress next year than his power will develop. I've made it clear that I think he can be a 2 WARish player next year even with that batting average regression (which is a huge improvement from what he was) and to remain a 4 WAR player he must find a way to generate more power. For some reason, when people like me make these statements, there is a small subset of posters here that get butt-hurt. Well that isn't really true. Unless they have become sentient beings, they were programmed by humans who at some point decided which things were important and which things weren't. They are essentially an excel spreadsheet spitting out answers based on their programmed formulas. Even the choice of facts put into these projections systems is opinion based to some extent. They might be well educated and test opinions, but they are still opinions. -
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 05:57 PM) Another thing people should stop doing is referring to Native Americans as Indians. Sure, "Cleveland Native Americans" doesn't have the same ring to it, but Indians... are... from India. Sorry, Columbus, but you missed your target. Its only a 500 year old mistake. No biggie.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 07:03 PM) The advanced stats say that 2017 was likely an aberration. They say the same thing about Lucas Giolito for example. -
Cumulus Media trying to drop White Sox/Bulls from WLS

QUOTE (InTheDriversSeat @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 05:40 PM) LOL! You're 24 miles away (in a straight line) from the tower in Tinley Park, and you "can't get a good signal half the time"? Get a better radio! WLS should come in Loud & Clear where you're at. The station has 50,000 watts and is a Clear Channel, the highest amount allowed in the USA. If you are listening indoors, make certain that all dimmer light switches and touch sensitive lamps are turned off because they will cause interference to every station on the AM band. Regarding the programming, it's NOT dreadful. The station's format is: Talk, that's what they do, just like other Talk stations on the AM dial. Around the same time that WLS got the rights for the Sox & Bulls, several non-political shows were added: John Howell & Ray Stevens, Bob Sirott and Marianne Murciano, and Steve Dahl. . Who in the heck is paying you? -

Mason GinsbergVerified account @MasonGinsberg 35m35 minutes ago So, here is what we "know." Someone with the Bulls leaked the Asik + 1st for Mirotic deal, then Woj reported that the Pels are balking at deal if Bulls pick up Mirotic's option. The rationale on the Pels' side is being able to afford all existing deals + Mirotic + Cousins. (1/3) It is true that these moves would push the Pels over the tax line for next season. However, it is also true that it would not be difficult to get back under it next year, OR to find another team willing to take Asik + 1st for an expiring right now. So, what can we infer? (2/3) After discussing with @42PhD, the most reasonable explanation seems to be that Demps is playing hardball - probably via Ajinca's contract, like @SilverAndMac first suggested. He knows that he is holding the truly unique asset & is milking it for as much as he possibly can. (3/3) -
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 03:59 PM) Native Americans are more worried about food, water, jobs, money, preventing and treating alcohol/drug addiction, etc. than names that people came up with decades and decades ago that have now become part of the general lexicon without the racist connection. However, that doesn't mean it's unreasonable for NA's to be offended or that it's the end of the world if a private company decides to make a change. I think it's unnecessary, but whatever, if they want to do it, go for it. I objected and still object to the U of I's decision to get rid of the Chief, a beloved mascot that was honored and respected, because a few select liberal professors b****ed and whined, but whatever, there's no going back. On the statue issue, I'd like to see the FDR statues/monuments removed. The dude rounded up a bunch of people and put them in camps because they looked different. In the modern era no less. How is no one talking about this? Start with Andrew Jackson if you want to talk Indian issues. And that dude is on our currency.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 03:12 PM) So the Pelicans only wanted him for this year and not for next year? If you like him for this year why not next if you are them? It would put them over the luxury tax number for next year, and they want the option to walk away if Cousins walks next year. Plus Niko would give up his bird rights. -
