  1. If it involves trading any assets, I am going to say no.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 17, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) I'm not so sure people would be so quick to support a 3rd team in NY. You have so many life-long allegiances to the teams there, I don't know if people would just jump on the bandwagon of a new team, unless you give them a playoff berth every year. Even if you divided up the market with a very minor share, it is still bigger than lots of other places. The NYC metro area is estimated at right about 20 million. Even if you divided it up with an extreme share say 5/8 Yankees, 3/8 mets and 1/8 New Team, that still leaves them with 2.5 million people to choose from which is bigger than KC Metro at 2.15 million, and Cleveland at a touch over 2 million. That is how big that market is when compared to everyone else.
  3. Guess who the 8th team on the list was... Jared Diamond‏Verified account @jareddiamond Of the eight teams who threw the most curveballs in 2017, seven made the playoffs. Why this isn't a coincidence: https://www.wsj.com/articles/baseballs-hidden-key-to-success-throwing-slower-1508243922 …://https://www.wsj.com/articles/baseba...er-1508243922 …
  4. Another pretty radical, yet common sense idea for expansion... Add another team to the NYC market. If you divide the entire metro area by just the Mets and Yankees, it is still MUCH bigger than pretty much any other teams solo market place. Dividing that market up again might do more for rebalancing finances in baseball than anything else.
  5. At the end of the day if you ask MLB owners if they are a bigger fan of 30 teams and their current team, or 2/30's of ~$3 billion, I promise you they would also take their share of the billions that new owners are going to be willing to pay to expand MLB. Once the Oakland and Tampa stadium situations get put to bed, expansion is inevitable.
  6. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 17, 2017 -> 11:08 AM) Wife and I took our daughter to see My Little Pony on Saturday. We were the only people in the theater. You have officially served your time in purgatory.
  7. With the way Charlotte supports baseball, they could well be in the discussion for an expansion or move in team.
  8. Can we still contract Minnesota? I am in favor of that plan.
  9. It is behind a paywall, so I can't see most of it, but here it is none the less. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/2017-...UQHlb5WOFt5M.97
  10. QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 16, 2017 -> 01:57 PM) I think the quality (or lack thereof) of wide receivers is dictating more than anything. totally 100% this. This receiving corps is just trash right now.
  11. QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 16, 2017 -> 12:52 PM) Hillary cancels media today after fall. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/oc...-hour-interview Blames Trump for fall.
  12. QUOTE (striker @ Oct 16, 2017 -> 11:52 AM) I would trade prospects for him. We are going to have a 40 man crunch soon so there is a possibility for 2:1 type prospect deal. In order for that to happen though, the Pirates would have to have given up on him. The roster is still fine this year. Maybe next year.
  13. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Oct 16, 2017 -> 10:31 AM) I wouldn't trade prospects for him, I'm just pointing out that he's exactly the type of arm that rebuilds his career with the White Sox. He is still worth assets though. Maybe after another year or two of failure he might get waived, but no time soon.
  14. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Oct 16, 2017 -> 10:16 AM) Glasnow is the perfect White Sox fixer candidate. He has ridiculous stuff, but his problem is control. Those are exactly the type of arms Coop makes his living on. But probably doesn't fit the type of player we are going to go after this winter. Seeing Franco mentioned earlier, I think they both fall into the same bucket. I don't see the Sox giving up any assets with future value to bring guys here this winter. Unless we get those guys in deals involved Avi or Abreu, I can't see it happening. The Sox aren't to the point where deals involving assets with potential future value at this stage of the rebuild. MAYBE next year, but not this year.
  15. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Oct 12, 2017 -> 06:09 PM) Yeah, I know Charlotte has a great set up, but what about Kannapolis? There are single-a teams near Chicago in Peoria and Kane County. So I guess you have to weigh the advantages of having a lot of your teams in one area in the Carolinas or having the potential of adding fans by having a minor league team near the big club. The White Sox are on the record as liking having their teams all near each other so that player movement is facilitated to cover day to day injuries and oddities more easily versus having to send players across the country to fill last minute problems.

  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 13, 2017 -> 09:06 AM) Ellsbury has always been such an injury plagued player, I just couldnt trust him to hold down any OF position, much less center A deal like that wouldn't be about Ellsbury as much as the extra players he brought with him in order to take some or all of that contract on from Boston.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 12, 2017 -> 09:42 PM) https://theathletic.com/126003/2017/10/12/r...ented-in-scope/ Any general highlights?
  19. Holland is the opposite of the type of player the White Sox are going to chase this winter.
  20. So the best example we have of government run and administered health care? Still f***ing terrible. Luckily everyone respects vets now because they stand for the anthem, but apparently won't stand up for Vets health care. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2017/10...akes/739852001/
  21. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 11, 2017 -> 08:44 AM) Germany's largest trade union pushes for shorter working hours for 3.9 million workers Would love to see more of this kind of thing in this country. We been trending down in hours worked for a while now as a country. We are down about 200 hours per year since 1950 and about 50 hours per year since 2k
  22. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 11, 2017 -> 10:00 AM) You are probably correct about that. However, Detroit, San Francisco, Philly, and the Sox don't have extra comp picks to save money for which could prompt them to just take the best player regardless. I think HS guys are the top 5 in the class anyway though. The Sox have always taken BPA with their top pick, even when they knew it was going to cost them dearly, as it did with Rodon for example.
  23. QUOTE (Quin @ Oct 11, 2017 -> 12:15 PM) Wasn't it Rios? That would make sense.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 11, 2017 -> 12:00 PM) Since it's off season and I like Sale I'll respond further. ... - Cutting up jerseys to get his way (I like it. He warned the team he didn't want to pitch in those jerseys. It's been revealed he had concern for his health pitching in them. Maybe he should have just boxed them up and hid them rather than take the scissors to them though; He got punished for it. Many players have screwed up before and will again). - Tried to fight opposing teams (Geez that's nitpicking. He's a fierce competitor. Probably is his undoing but it's still not a bad trait; I guess he could have got arrested in KC for looking for a fight after the game in the KC locker room but whatever). - DrakeGate (Drake Gate forced playes to take sides. He took the LaRoche side of it; I like guys who will go against the front office once in a while). Kind of silly to make one of our best pitchers ever a total enemy on here. He got thrown out of a game for fighting, went over the opposing teams lockerroom and offered to fight the whole team while pounding on the door like a madman. IIRC, it was only an ex-teammate who talked him into going back to his own lockerroom before he did something that would have really gotten him in trouble.
  25. I think what black or white greg misses is that you can respect Sale on the mound, and disrespect him for everything off of the mound at the same time. Crazy, I know.
