  3. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 12:45 PM) I agree, but the point remains. Towards the end of the year, Tyler was one of the "vets" on this team. They weren't optioning him for Jake Peter. I wouldn't be surprised to see them give him another chance, and I also wouldn't be surprised to see them give it to Peter. What I think happens is Peter is added to 40 man, and Tyler gets one more chance. Peter is likely gone if he's not protected - probably not a top 10 rule 5 pick, but someone will nab him. If the White Sox didn't see Tyler Saladino as a part of the team this year (as in 18), he would already have been gone. They didn't hesitate to dump other guys in September and in October, why would Saladino be different?
  4. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) I would think a 25-year old who has hit good in the minors and plays more positions would be different than a 29-year old actually. Let me put it this way. Do you think the White Sox will find a better player in the Rule 5 draft than Jake Peter? I absolutely do. I also think they see other players they would rather protect on a team that is deep in infielders and specifically guys that profile as utility guys. I also don't see what team out there is going to hold a 25 man roster spot all year for Jake Peter. I could see a much better argument for guys like Adolfo and Guerrero because at least you are talking about way higher demanded skills (huge power, lefty starter). Judging by how slowly he has been brought through the minors, and how they completely ignored him in a season that saw the White Sox dip further into the majors than they ever have before, I really don't think they look at him as a piece that matters going forward.
  5. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 12:34 PM) The Sox weren't going to cut Saladino last year. They could have sent him down at any point this year, but didn't. It also doesn't mean that he won't rebound next year, and he will be given the chance to do so.
  6. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 12:27 PM) He was a 24 year old who didn't get time with us because we had Moncada, Anderson, Sanchez, Davidson, and Saladino in his spots. With Saaldino likely gone, he'll be here next year. A 24 year old who couldn't take time away from the same Tyler Saladino coming off of a back injury. Great point.
  7. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 12:24 PM) Yeah, like when we took Angel Sanchez in the Rule 5 draft like 4 years ago. (Sanchez was a 29-year old backup IF) That is actually a great example of why they don't do it. It was actually notable because NO ONE thought it would happen, and it shocked everyone to the point where no one had a bio prepped on him. Plus there is also the point of how well that worked out that needs mentioning.
  8. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 12:15 PM) Utility infielder who will be in his age 25 season and has hit well at every level of the minor leagues. Seems like the perfect Rule 5 candidate to me if left unprotected. A 25 year old who couldn't even get time with this historically awful White Sox team. Teams are looking for star potential and big tools in the rule 5, not utility players. They can find those all over the place for pretty cheap.

  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 09:55 AM) Taking a drivers test is both rules of the road and knowing if you can operate a car. If you are bouncing off the curbs and don't know how to park etc, you aren't getting your license. The problem with any of the commonly given "Yes, but what about..."'s is that none of the others are constitutionally protected. There aren't many constitutional equals to gun rights that are up for debate... thinking more about it, maybe voting rights? Then again like abortion, the people who want common sense gun laws tend to be the ones who favor no voting restrictions and the ones who want no gun restrictions want voting restrictions. Politically, it is fascinating to me.
  12. QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 09:09 PM) He has a point. It's the people that must take everything to extremes, see everything as us and them that make any agreement or compromise impossible. You can't have gun control when one side wants no restriction and the other wants a ban with no working to the middle. It's the same with healthcare. One side wants total healthcare the other wants a useless minimal version. They portray an us and them and nothing gets done. It would be an awful world without firearms. My favorite parallel to the gun debate is abortion, with the sides flip-flopped. Both groups on one side feel that fully illegal and never acceptable is the way to go, while the other wants to have no restrictions at all, unwilling to let even the common sense stuff happen in fear of the slippery slope argument.
  13. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 12:06 PM) Why is no one concerned about protecting Jake Peter? He's the type of guy who'd be taken immediately in the Rule 5 draft, and I'd rather see him get ML PAs and figure out what we have in him than see Saladino back out there again next year. I think Peter could be as good or better than Sanchez and offers the same positional versatility. No one is picking Jake Peter.
  14. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 10:34 AM) Would anybody trade Kopech for Sale straight up right now? Probably everybody. But there's a realistic chance that not many would make the same trade at the end of 2018. Sure Sale will be coming off a CY and is ridiculous, but if Kopech keeps dominating, he might have similar peripherals and come at 600k per year. I know that's optimistic but it's not ludicrous. Just crazy to think about their value rankings could change as early as the end of 2018 or 2019. Glad we traded Sale when we did. We saw it work out for the Sox by holding on to Q, and if you want to argue that the return was a player light as has been said, you pretty much are saying the White Sox should have risked taking Chris Sale to the regular season to get that extra player. We also don't know that Boston wouldn't have moved on with the huge need for a front line pitcher and offered the same or similar package for a player like Archer. Then what? To me that the counterfactuals of needing another player for Sale come with really big risk factors. I think the Sale trade was done at the right time when you look at the risks of holding out for more.
  15. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 11:39 AM) I think you try to protect Eloy, Gillespie, Polo, Adolfo and Guerrero. We have the spaces and losing any of those would really suck. I don't feel confident we would get Guerrero or Adolfo back. I think they will look to keep at least one slot open, maybe even two for the Rule 5 draft. That also limits the number of players you can protect at 38 or 39. In my opinion I think they would risk losing a Micker to get a better player back in the draft.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 10:34 AM) How did Adolfo get the first name treatment already? That's really the more important issue. He is lucky I don't still call him Zapata.
  17. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 02:03 PM) James Fegan @JRFegan Replying to @JRFegan Sox need to protect Eloy Jimenez, Casey Gillaspie, Ryan Cordell from Rule 5 eligibility, case to be made for Jake Peter, Brian Clark, Jordan Guerrero...Micker Adolfo, Tito Polo. This frees up some space I am going to guess out of this list the Sox protect Eloy, Gillaspie and Polo. Cordell is already on the 40 man roster so doesn't need adding.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 09:48 PM) They'd have to keep him on the mlb roster all year. No one is doing that. This. They have to think it is worth keeping them on the major league roster for the entire season. With Micker you also have an injury concern to worry about which could stretch that roster committment to multiple seasons. Realistically, very little of that list needs protecting.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 04:15 PM) It actually turned out win/win for both clubs. That too. Realistically they saved their biggest guys and they got Verlander spending more money than prospects, versus what they would have spent in prospects to get Q or Sale.
  20. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 04:10 PM) Even after what they've done in the last 10 months? I liked the Astros before that, now I want them swept out of the playoffs. Eh, them not wanting to pay up for a trade with the Sox isn't really that big of a deal to me.
  21. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 02:52 PM) I think Putnam gets non-tendered possibly re-signed to minor league deal. I fully believe Putnam gets non-tendered. There is no good reason to pay him an arb salary next year.
