Chicago White Sox‏Verified account @whitesox 14h14 hours ago José Abreu & Albert Pujols exchanged bats tonight to honor José matching Pujols’ mark of 100 RBI & 25 HR in each of their first 4 seasons.

How is this for a time to revisit the deal that had been discussed both with the Pirates and then with the Pirates and Yankees involved McCutcheon. Tyler Glasnow is having another horrible run in the majors. 44 walks in 62 innings and an era in the Dylan Covey range. Kevin Newman put up a pretty mediocre year splitting time between AA and AAA putting up a combined line of .267/.311/.363/.675. Even Austin Meadows who we really wanted, but wasn't ever supposedly available put up a mediocre year. Mitch Keller was the only guy connected to the deal who really put up a good year for the Pirates this year. I know people have focused on the Astros for ire, but did anyone sacrifice more and get less than the Pirates turning down the offers for Quintana?

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 01:26 PM) Gulf? I don't know, Collins put up solid offensive numbers in AA and supposedly improved his defense by leaps and bounds to the point that some think he can stick at C. Dane Dunning also had a pretty good year. The top 4 have superstar potential. I don't see that in the rest of the top 5. There are going to be some really good players in the rest of the list, but none of them have those kind of ceilings.

Might as well kick off of the off season with a managerial firing. Bob Nightengale‏Verified account @BNightengale 16m16 minutes ago A surprise new managerial opening: The #Phillies are letting go Pete Mackanin as manager. He will now be special assistant to GM.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 01:11 PM) I'd be surprised if they weren't with graduations. Jimenez, Kopech, Hansen, Robert but I'd imagine our top 5 pick slots in at 5 and possibly 4 ahead of Hansen. That is pretty reasonable. With three of the top guys graduating, it does open up more spots than I was thinking. I agree those are our top 4, and there is a pretty clear gulf between Hansen and whoever is #5 right now. #5 probably does make sense TBH. But still, the fact that we are going to make a top 5 pick and they will be still rated that low is pretty crazy.

If it were any other team, I would wonder if Trubisky isn't playing because the organization is tanking the season. But these are the Bears, so who knows.

QUOTE (Quin @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 11:41 AM) No one we draft is going to be more highly touted than Moncada, Robert and Jimenez. Hell, people thought it might Rutherford going into his draft. How crazy is that we are going to get a top 5 pick and they might not be a top 5 prospect for us.

While Avi improved across the board, the jump that really stands out is what he did against LHP this season. His career numbers are .309 .363 .455 .818. This year he put up .427 .457 .580 1.037. The other thing is that while everyone was thinking his hot start was a fluke, he has actually gotten better as the season has gone on, and not worse. 1st half .310 .353 .497 .850, 2nd half .360 .416 .526 .942. I have no idea how sustainable anything is, but I found those two things really interesting.

QUOTE (GermanSock @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 11:17 AM) I think the priority should the the first pick and not the over slot signing in the second round. Now if you can do both that is ideal but the over slot thing makes most sense if you have a comp pick in the 20s because the new cba likely means less players dropping due to signability issues. Definitely don't sign a mediocre top pick for a second rounder. So far in the rebuild the Sox have definitely concentrated on bringing in the best talent, and not the most amount of talent in their deals.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 10:02 AM) I still think that if Underwood gets roped in then Frank Martin and many other coaches would too. It's plausible that only Underwood would have evidence tying him in but if the NCAA wants to tag team on they would really have to go for all associated coaches, which could be a big list. It wouldn't shock me at all for this to hit a number of coaches. I seen no scenario where ONLY Pitino bites it for this.

QUOTE (Quin @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 08:04 PM) Hahn definitely reads SoxTalk The draft position comment was great.

The only really interesting thing said that wasn't already mentioned was that they were really impressed with Seby Zavala, and they wanted to get him more reps in the AFL, and that he was probably going to start with Collins in AA next season.
