QUOTE (steveno89 @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 10:19 AM) I'm pleased to see some of our younger players coming around, but it would be a shame to not finish this tank off properly the final week. I am going to guess that we don't see as much of Abreu and Avi this week, especially Jose. He hit his 30/100 marks, and there isn't much else for him. Maybe they give Avi a run at 20 homers, but there isn't much else for him to play for either.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 09:27 AM) According to facebook, they're protesting the military and veterans. If this is really about the military and vets, then Trump should be hard at work fixing the ultimate disrespect of our veterans in the VA. We still have vets dying for lack of decent medical care in 2017 because President after President utterly ignores their health care. Try to fix this and we can talk about a President respecting our troops.

2017-18 official NBA discussion thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 09:05 PM) The 2016 offseason was just amazing. The 2017 one hasn't exactly set the world on fire either.

Maybe my favorite play of the year
QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 09:01 PM) Much better and more promising than in years past. I can't remember the last time we drafted a catcher with our first pick. Looks like it was Josh Phegley in 2009 - prior to that it was 1994 in Mark Johnson - followed by 1985's selection of Kurt Brown - and then none other than Ron Karkovice in '82. Overall, I think people should be happy with Collins in that he showed a great improved skillset over the year at catcher. Even coming out of the gate after spring training he was showing that he had potential to hold down the fort. After his end of year promotion to AA his offensive numbers also showed improvement. This offseason and in the spring, I look for him to take a big stride forward on the offensive side of his game and I've really came around on him since the initial draft pick. Kudos Hostetler and company. In the lower levels we've also got some other interesting names in Seby Zavala and Brett Austin, to a lesser extent. Collins needs to stick or we're going the FA / trade route when the time comes. Edit: I'm sure that one of the Future Sox guys here could give you a more comprehensive perspective. We also have at least two interesting catchers in the lowest levels from Latin America who could be something in the future in Alfaro and Carlos Perez.

Sox vs KC 9/24
QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 06:04 PM) If they can get a top 50 prospect for him, would rather trade him this offseason They won't get a top 50 prospect for either. If that offer existed, they would already be gone.

Trade avi in the offseason?
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 12:22 AM) Well, TA plays a premium position that isn't flowing with an abundance talent available. Meanwhile Avi is a corner outfielder that does not draw enough walks, hit for enough power and plays a position overflowing with talent. There's no comparison to be made between TA and Avi. Edit to add: TA also has five years of control left, Avi has two. Very different situations when looking a few years down the road. With options, I think it is 7 years of control for Anderson.

Jose Abreu accomplishment thread
It is kind of amazing that Jose is both our biggest contract of all time, and one of our best free agent contracts of all time. Congrats to a true leader and all around great guy!

Another season almost gone and I will miss it.
I have watched less baseball this year than I have in nearly 40 years.

Reverse Standings Thread
QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) Let me clarify, I was speaking in terms of the fans. For the fans to go through this miserable season it was about a top three pick. You all know that I am right no matter how much you deny it. In fact, the whole point of this thread is to track that pick, and going through the pages the evidence is clear that everyone wants a top 2 pick. People even wanted to lose to the Cubs to get a better pick, which is something I'd never cheer for, F them. I wasn't on board for the rebuild at first but everyone wanted a top 2 pick for sure out of this draft. Everyone in fact wanted Beer with number 1 I believe. The organization wants development but we didn't, that's the letdown I'm talking about. Because we had to suffer through this season, and to get the 5th pick is a letdown. As far as the guy who says we don't see eye to eye, I could give a crap to to be honest. Wanting a top pick and understanding that the success of our young players is more vital isn't mutually exclusive. If we had gotten failures out of Anderson, Moncada, Fulmer, Giolito, Lopez etc, this rebuild is way more screwed than the difference between the 3rd and 5th picks. To me that seems obvious.

2017 AL Central Catch all thread
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 06:42 AM) Why are people so butthurt about the Astros? I'm excited about Jimenez. We should be thanking them. Sure they could have put together a betterpackage based on the third and fourth pieces but based on what we ended up getting, that doesn't really matter. I'd rather see the Astros win than Red Sox and Yankees and 2 ALC teams personally Eloy is so much better than even Bregman it isn't even funny... and we never had a chance at Bregman. We kind of owe them a debt of gratitude.

Sox v KC

Reverse Standings Thread
QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 11:35 PM) That is patently untrue. It was about player acquisition and development. Them being bad was a foregone conclusion and a Top 3 pick was desired, but saying that is what 2017 was about is just not correct. Glad to see someone else beat me to this.

QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 11:27 PM) This season was about obtaining a top 3 pick, if we get fourth or 5th it will be a letdown. I don't mind wins that occur because our future plays great, but these wins where guys who wont be here make the difference suck. Just like the Bears needed to be in top position to grab a qb last year, and the Bulls need a top 3 pick to grab one of the three studs coming into the NBA next year. No it wasn't. It was about putting themselves into a position to accumulate talent and have it progress as it grows. Winning games because of that talent is not a bad thing. Getting big stretches from Moncada, Anderson, etc is more important than the difference between the 3rd and 5th pick.

Maybe my favorite play of the year
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 11:49 AM) People don't really like Narvaez due to his framing, but he's actually a surprisingly adequate offensive catcher- his eye and on base abilities coupled with the low strikeout rate are rare at his position. I think that he would actually be one of the better starting catchers in baseball if he could be a better framer. In general what the White Sox have gotten from the catching position this year has been really impressive. If you had told me in January the Sox catching tandem this year was going to be essentially Smith and Narvaez, I might have cried a little bit.

Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 12:47 AM) Gonna be fun reading 8 months of people b****ing the sox didn't make a "Lester" move this offseason despite: A) There not being a single FA available worth a s*** other than the Royals trio who we're not signing for multiple reasons B) The incredibly high level of stupidity it would be to blow our payroll wad before knowing what the new core vs. holes are before a massive FA class after 2018 Better yet, they will wait until one free agent who no one expects it from to have a breakout start to the season, and then pretend that the White Sox should have known it was coming.

If you were Rick Hahn...
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 10:36 AM) "Principal owner Jerry Reinsdorf was blunt about the BLACKMAIL in a 1997 interview. We want to stay in Chicago, but if we talk to you, you might be the vehicle that gets us the stadium in Chicago. Do you want to be used? They said 'We're willing to be used if you promise us that if you can't get the stadium, you'll come to St. Petersburg.' So that's what we did." http://www.nydailynews.com/archives/sports...rticle-1.507057 I'm thinking if the mighty New York Daily News still stands today and were never "sued" after having made direct reference to the "blackmail" enlisted by Reinsdorf in the stadium deal, I won't be needing to keep an attorney on retainer anytime soon. But thanks for the free and excellent legal advice nonetheless! That is just sad. When you are taking what a columnist said and attributing it to JR, and then still not accounting for the usage of the word "extortion". Both are terms referring to actual criminal activities and you are full out committing libel by using them in this form. The only criminal activity is yours. You have crossed a line in these posts that should not be crossed.

If you were Rick Hahn...
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 07:42 AM) Sure, why not? And by that logic, you can walk into any state prison or county jail and look around and conclude that how could any of the inmates be guilty of any crimes if so many people have committed the same acts! Except they haven't. You are quite literally making stuff up to the point of your words being illegal as no crime every took place, to try to make a point that isn't true. You really have a problem, and you should hope it doesn't get you sued.

If you were Rick Hahn...
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 07:29 AM) Nice try. The only ridiculous posts are ones like this one which try and mask the undeniable truth about the stadium extortion inflicted upon the state by the Sox owners. We are not talking about negotiating a sale or purchase. We are talking about blackmail in its purest form, plain and simple. That is what went down to force the state to finance the stadium construction, and you know it. And your unabashed hatred of my posts pointing out these facts doesn’t change a thing in this regard. You talk about "ridiculous" but use a criminal law term like extortion and blackmail to apply to a completely legal negotiation? The only hatred here is your irrational one for White Sox ownership. You can't even hold a rational conversation about the team's history without libeling the team.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 02:57 PM) Thats actually not true. A long time ago there were talks about disarming the NK program but (depending on the time) different sides walked away. In my opinion NK does not believe China/Russia to be as dependable of allies as Israel believes the US to be. Not to mention, we are completely discounting the idea that either Russia/China are behind what Kim is doing. As they are countries that stand to benefit greatly from the US looking weak and unhinged. Those two thoughts don't work together. If China/Russia are encouraging this... by definition they are on their side, otherwise they wouldn't believe in their backing enough to keep talking about destroying the places like the US and SK.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 02:48 PM) China and Russia's support is much weaker. I could be wrong, but I do not believe the US has EVER agreed with sanctions on Israel. And none of them have done anything about the NK nuclear program.
