  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 10:02 AM) Seems difficult to believe a guy with this profile would suddenly convert to Islam and join up with ISIS in his 60's. Plus ISIS, as others noted, claims all manner of stuff they didn't do. But it's not impossible I suppose. The fact that he is 64 years old and has no criminal record at all is already a big overcoming of the typical odds in profile of this type of shooter.
  3. Just saw a flash across Bloomberg that ISIS is claiming credit and saying that the shooter had just converted to Islam in the last couple of months... but also noting that ISIS likes to make stuff like this up in an attempt to claim credit for attacks.

  5. Now that the 2017 season is over, and we saw 162 games played at the major league level played, a lot of players traded away as well as brought into the organization... what are you going to take from the 2017 season as a White Sox fan?
  6. QUOTE (ron883 @ Oct 1, 2017 -> 10:23 AM) He will be back next year Only like 6 games.
  7. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 1, 2017 -> 10:22 AM) Sigh, last game. Bummer. More importantly, it's Hawk's last game. One of the reasons I plugged the cable back into my TV this year was to hear Hawk call games in his last season. I got tired of the Hawkisms and his chronic complaining of the umps years ago but I respect the f*** out if his White Sox fandom and am lucky enough to have been there the whole way since he started calling games for the Sox. I consider myself to be a very lucky Sox fan. One more time today Hawk, let all the Hawkisms fly!!! Awe hell, do what you've always wanted to do and let a few cuss words out, f*** it! and go Hawk! Yep. The voice of my childhood and adulthood. I am more sad about this than the end of this season.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 11:44 AM) 69, just because. I am feeling pretty good about this.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 30, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) I was the one who was big on the Carlos/Yolmer comparison, so I'll eat my crow on that. All the same, they likely would have given up Quintana for Albies, and I'm perfectly fine with Eloy. Yolmer Sanchez>Carlos Sanchez
  10. QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 30, 2017 -> 08:09 AM) It doesn't happen every day, is of note, and hell - I've never seen it occur in modern Major League Baseball. Closest thing I've seen was that Will Farrel spring training spectacle. That last message from you was a bit - ummmm... sour?
  11. QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 06:21 PM) He's had 506 minor league at bats while not working much on refining his swing. It's way to early to make speculations about his projection at the MLB level. The dudes a prospect - and a good one at that. Let's just all agree to sit on the fence with him and keep an eye on how he does in 2018 on both sides of the ball. I am not proclaiming him dead, but very clearly not in the same tier as Eloy, Kopech, Hansen, and Robert.
  12. QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 08:54 PM) Neither was Abreu. Maybe it is the oldness speaking, but the White Sox were always a leader for Abreu. Most of the top spending teams didn't need him, and the Sox were the most obvious team, both in the media and in speculation.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 06:34 PM) That is interesting. Sounds like he might be a guy who doesn't particularly care about the easiest path or what others before him have done. Could he be sold on a chance to join a young, budding powerhouse? Would we let him be a starting pitcher? Or a closer? It seems to at least be worth a shot. I agree. Reading that really changed my perspective. Maybe they can find something to sell him on?
  14. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 05:36 PM) I don't understand what you're referencing. Is it the offensive uptick from this season? Because, if so, that's not exactly coming from the catcher position. Of catchers with 110 or more games, only Sanchez, Contreras, Posey, Avila (barely qualifies in terms of games played) and Zunino have an OPS of .800 or better. If Collins is the OBP/SLG guy we think he can be, I'll take it. A guy who is hitting for that low of an average is going to not see nearly as many walks at the upper levels. People are putting way too much faith into pitchers going around him if he isn't hitting. Pitchers with control at the upper levels aren't going to give him nearly as much. If his hit tool doesn't return he will be a bust. Such a large part of his OPS right now is based on walks. If he doesn't get them, he isn't worth nearly as much.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 05:39 PM) The problem is the receivers will be the same. If they throw Mitch in there, he may do worse than Glennon. I feel sorry for him. Expectations are that he is a HOFer, and he has A York high school like receiving corp. Glendon has sucked. No one except maybe Jim Miller will tell you otherwise. But the Bears QB is set up to fail, just like Fox is. Fox has to win to save his job. They gave him a roster with little talent, and used their best asset on a guy they didn't want him to play. Belicheck could be named the coach tomorrow and they would still suck really bad. You will know the Bears are serious about actually winning when guys like Kevin White aren't counted on to remain healthy for more than 5 minutes. I think the top Chicago HS teams run a better set of WR's out there than the Bears have right now.
  16. Really interesting read on the kid, especially his view on money. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-shohei...-htmlstory.html
  17. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 05:27 PM) I feel like you may be missing the point. He's a catcher- that's a position where you usually don't get any offensive production. If he can be a high OBP, HR guy with average defense like the scouts think he can, he's already a top-10, maybe even top-5, catcher in all of baseball. That alone makes him a great prospect. I feel like some are missing that 2017 happened.
  18. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 04:42 PM) Wow. Wouldn't have thought the Sox or any other team had been worse than the September Tigers. Starting with the Q trade, this team just collapsed until they got their bearings back.
  19. QUOTE (Quin @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 03:22 PM) We all laugh but Tilson is going to be a perennial all-star for the Sox and play 15 straight years of 162 games. But yeah...hoping for him to just kick his voodoo curse. If baseball doesn't work out, he has the background to be a Bears WR.
  20. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 03:10 PM) As an average fielding catcher that is an all-star caliber guy. If you want to put Collins into the upper tier of our prospects, I want to see more hitting. The guy is supposed to be a hit first catcher and hasn't really hit at all yet.
  21. Dan Wiederer‏ @danwiederer 16m16 minutes ago Q: To be clear, is Mike Glennon still starting QB? Fox: "Again, I'm not really trying to be clear. Actually probably quite the opposite."
  22. QUOTE (credezcrew24 @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 03:04 PM) An OPS of over 800 doesn't equal a bad bat, especially at the catcher position. This year he was basically Matt Davidson who also took walks. I want to see some more of the hit tool.

  24. Jack‏ @TheSoxGuy 16h16 hours ago The White Sox are 25-25 since August 6th. That is an extended stretch of solid baseball. That is a good thing.
  25. An interesting follow up from a column done last year where someone has wrote an algo to predict which pitchers will get/need Tommy John Surgery in the future. The highest name on the list from the White Sox is Dylan Covey. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/09/pred...017-update.html
