QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 2, 2017 -> 03:27 PM) I would hope the Sox would be willing to eat some of the $20 mill owed to him over next 2 years to get the best possible deal. They are already getting $10 million of it paid for, so if he really is a decent pitcher again, $10 million a year isn't that much.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 2, 2017 -> 02:25 PM) I don't think anyone who is actually planning or even thinking about running in 2020 would say they were in 2017, but yeah Biden isn't running. You would think he would at least give a non-committal answer.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 2, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) Gag me with a spoon. Outside of Biden, who I don't think will run. He just said publicly yesterday that he will not run for 2020.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 2, 2017 -> 01:30 PM) Also highlights the perils of trying to build solely around young pitching, or at least primarily. The Sox for their part have usually done a good job of balancing out youth with proven vets at the MLB level and also having enough depth in the minors to weather injury storms. That said, what can the Mets offer for Q? According to MLB.com, they have the #3 prospect in baseball in SS Amed Rosario.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 2, 2017 -> 01:12 PM) Source: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/05/mets...ard-injury.html Come on down and shop on the South Side! We've got a Holland, and a Gonzalez, James Shields who can be had. The Mets are the perfect counterexample to why being super-cautious with pitchers is a good idea, and why throwing at 100% for every pitch might not be the best idea.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 2, 2017 -> 12:04 PM) Yeah I get that but there may not even be room for him to stay up in the majors. If they really like him, they could always trade for him. Send over cash or PTBNL or something. Like I said, I think he will stay up as a long-reliever with a 3-man bench. The first guy to go will be Pelfrey for sure. But the Sox will make room for the guy unless they don't see anything from him, which is always possible.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 2, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) Worth every penny to the University And yes, how dare the players ask for any compensation too? Almost crazier than that is that their LBs coach is going to make $950k next year.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 2, 2017 -> 12:03 PM) I hope that Hector guy has a stroke or gets MS and has to live like an invalid in a wheelchair. "Death is too good for him"

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 2, 2017 -> 11:36 AM) Yeah the fact he is a rule 5 pick should have no bearing. I could see him staying on as a long-reliever though. They can cut someone like Asche and go with a 3-man bench. It does as far as it is a free audition. If it is someone you think that could help you down the road, you eat his crap starts this season in a year that doesn't matter if he sucks or not if you think he can help in 2018/19/20 etc.

QUOTE (harkness @ May 1, 2017 -> 09:15 PM) I just can't see Covey having any real future.... mediocre stuff with bad control.. doesn't equate. Guys who have stuff like that need to not nibble as much as he does. He still hasn't gotten past a fear of major league hitters. Look at a guy like Miguel Gonzalez in the same light as Covey. Working the edges of the plate is one thing, but you have to be able to throw strikes with your off-speed stuff or most guys aren't going to chase.

QUOTE (scs787 @ May 1, 2017 -> 10:29 PM) Just out of curiosity, I went back and looked at some of the saints draft history as that is where Pace comes from and here is some fun stuff when it comes to small schools. Arkansas Pine Bluff Regina Towson Bloomsburg Hofstra Ya know who went to those schools? Terron Armstead- Pro Bowl LT Akiem Hicks- Really good football player as we know Jermon Bushrod- 2x Pro Bowl LT Jahari Evans- 6x pro bowl/4x all pro Marques Colston- 6 1000+ yard seasons. They also have a history of drafting a guy with limited tape.....A guy named Jimmy Graham only caught 17 balls his one year of college football. He was pretty good right? What would be really interesting is to see how many guys they drafted that completely busted in similar situations.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 2, 2017 -> 09:48 AM) Damn we could be waiting all season basically haha I can't imagine it will take that long, but we shall see.

QUOTE (Tony @ May 1, 2017 -> 08:50 PM) I'm not understanding the "We need to get rid of Covey right now" group. If no one is ready in AA or AAA (which is a whole different issue itself) then what are you even asking for at that point? A change just to make a change? You must be new here, welcome to Soxtalk!

QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 1, 2017 -> 08:45 PM) I'm hesitant to f*** with Swarzak at all. He looks like a competent reliever, I'd rather not screw with one of the things that is working. If he keeps pitching like this he could have real value as a bullpen trade piece, and plus we have starters in the pipeline. There is no good reason to move Swarzak around.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 2, 2017 -> 08:21 AM) Cash considerations or a player to be named later. My order of preference: 1. International slot allotment 2. Player to be named later 3. cash When do they have to complete the trade by? Six months from trade day.
