  1. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ May 7, 2017 -> 12:04 PM) Courtney Hawkins 18 Ks in his last 20 at bats and 20 in his last 24. How is that possible? At this point step one is to sit the kid for an extended period and try to clear his mind.
  2. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ May 6, 2017 -> 10:15 PM) Matt Cassidy‏ @Matt_Cassidy 2h2 hours ago More Micker Adolfo has made big leaps. Looks much better on both sides of the ball. Something has clicked there. The average is up near .300, and the K numbers are coming down a little, but still very high.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ May 7, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) Matt Cooper, Jordan Guerrero or Tyler Danish all would be more interesting. None are really ML ready, but Cooper is probably deserving of a shot. He is 26 and isn't getting any younger...I'd rather see him make a few starts until we're back healthy and Lopez is up than watching any more of Covey. This is the main point. The Sox aren't rushing guys anymore. There is no need for any of those three guys to be here now. Danish is the ONLY one who MIGHT make sense, and even he has the same K rate problems that Covey has.
  4. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 7, 2017 -> 11:30 AM) Which of those guys are ready though? Covey's a complete joke, but when the #1 goal of the season is developing young talent and not winning, who really cares if Dylan embarrasses himself out there once every five days. The last thing we should be doing right now is rushing any of our key prospects because the incumbent sucks balls. I will add if someone interesting hits waivers, I would dump Covey in a heartbeat. This. For all of the people that wanted a rebuild, there is way too much stress and win now mentality. Forget about Asche, Covey, May and everybody else. This is a tank. Yes, a large part of the team is going to suck. It is a free audition for many of these guys, and that is all that it is.
  5. QUOTE (heirdog @ May 5, 2017 -> 03:20 PM) These write ups are great, thanks. What does it mean when someone is still in "extended spring training" like Curbelo? Is he playing in another non-MiLB league? It means he isn't ready for full season baseball and they are playing him in simulated and controlled games in Arizona. Most likely he is going to be in rookie ball again this year.
  6. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 5, 2017 -> 02:20 PM) QUOTE (ptatc @ May 5, 2017 -> 01:03 PM) I really enjoyed reading and listening to guys like Stark and McAdam but why would their opinion be any better than the stats that are so readily available now? In my opinion it's because they have (had) the ability to make sense of the entire picture. They have access to the managers, the players, the front offices. Baseball is more, far more, in my opinion than just stats. Stats can play a part in things (and again in my opinion are vastly overemphasized by many who think they are "experts" because they can decipher things like fWAR and FIP) but baseball is still a game played by human beings...with stories to tell that go far beyond raw numbers. I tend to think that we have definitely moved towards the statistical side of things, and it has come at the expense of the unquantifiable things that make up the game of baseball, such as what is going on between a players ears, what happens in the lockerroom, etc.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 5, 2017 -> 01:44 PM) Soxtalk, are you collectively ready to vote Avisail Garcia into the All-Star Game? I am now.
  8. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 4, 2017 -> 01:55 PM) Whenever you post about him slumping he seems to heat up, 2 homeruns in his last 2 PA, I think you should keep posting about him. Since this was posted he has been good for a full win going from -0.6 to 0.4 WAR. The sad thing is his defensive numbers are just awful, which is fully why he is still that low. He is sitting at -3 DRS right now in 23 games at 1B this year. He was only -5 last year in games at 1B.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ May 5, 2017 -> 10:06 AM) If Avi makes the all star game I'm changing Aviously to my screen name. This post needs to be bookmarked
  10. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ May 5, 2017 -> 11:56 AM) I'm sure we can save a spot for you in the Soxtalk mount rushmore of failed guarantees, next to Steve and J4L You mean we aren't enjoying the Miami Heat's 7th straight title?
  11. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 5, 2017 -> 11:13 AM) PTATC: Not trying to be arrogant. At least I try to "talk" conversationally with other posters and not "down" to them or try to show how clever I am with one-liners that are snarky in nature and demeaning. (Not saying you do by the way). I put my name on posts because the other sites I participate in that's the way it's done. Nothing more, nothing less. I didn't realize that doing so here makes you "arrogant." But that's fine...from now on I won't use my name anymore. Hope that makes you happy. When you are admitting you don't have all of the information to know what is going, but then going in and essentially accusing the organization of lying about injury information without actually what is going on, but then demeaning them for not giving you information, that is what I would call arrogant. You are putting down an entire organization with that kind of snark.
  12. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 5, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) 27/30 of the perceived top guys have agreements. If the Sox weren't in on Robert, I would expect to see their name attached to some of that top 30. Especially while rebuilding and being giving the ability to spend more $. Most of those deals were agreed to before the decision to rebuild took place. It also doesn't mean that they don't have other agreements in place that fall into the Josue Guerrero category.
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 5, 2017 -> 10:24 AM) They didn't have $4.75 million to spend last year though. They also didn't have the capabilities of spending $8 million like they do now. It is hard to quantify what dollars mean this year until we see the new system in action. There are going to be teams who have to turn away former agreements because they won't be able to sign the class they had thought they were going to be able to sign. Others will be able to sign more people than they thought.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 5, 2017 -> 09:23 AM) 27 of the top 30 are committed already. None of them are committed to White Sox and that's another sign that Luis Robert is a very real possibility. If they miss on him, they are pretty much out of the market in 2017-2018. It would be really disappointing. I think last year they signed #31, #35, and #38, or something like that. They did spend all but about a million dollars during that.
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ May 5, 2017 -> 10:12 AM) Yeah but if you ignore the people who healed quickly, everyone healed slowly! So what you are telling is that people who went on to the DL were more injured than those that didn't? That is a pretty ballsy theory.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ May 5, 2017 -> 09:46 AM) Really hope Aviously doesn't catch on. Can I just use Avi for short?
  17. It is a short term mark to be sure, but with 27 games in the book, we are 1/6th of the way through the season, and Avi Garcia leads the AL with his .371 batting average, is 5th with his 1.017 OPS, is 8th with a .598 SLG, and is 5th with a .419 OBP. That is one hell of a start.
  18. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 4, 2017 -> 10:07 PM) Oh the arrogance. Mark That is actually a much better word for it, thanks.
  19. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 4, 2017 -> 06:58 PM) You know very well I'm talking about guys on the DL. Go back and read his statements on them. Look at his comments on Shields for example. And why the silence on the other relief pitchers, one of whom, Putnam was due off the DL today, and Petricka who has been on there now for five weeks. Oh the entitlement.
  20. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 4, 2017 -> 04:40 PM) Hahn has been saying everything is "minor" all year...seen any of the injured guys back yet? No disrespect, I'll believe it when I see it. Mark Both Abreu and Avi had "minor" injuries and were back in the course of a day or two.
  21. Dan Hayes‏Verified account @CSNHayes 46m46 minutes ago Through today, Derek Holland's K-rate is at 20.2 percent. Hasn't been this high since he was at 21.2 in 2013. #WhiteSox
  22. whitesoxdave‏ @barstoolWSD 33m33 minutes ago For all you stat geeks out there looking for some stat porn, just an FYI - Tommy Kahnle has a negative FIP and xFIP right now
  23. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 4, 2017 -> 04:17 PM) You're making this claim a month into the season? On the plus side, Dane Dunning is never going to give up a run again.
  24. Jesse Lippin-Foster‏ @Jesse_FosterBP 21m21 minutes ago The #Royals 75 runs scored through their first 26 games is their lowest mark in their history (1969-present), per @baseball_ref.
  25. Christopher Kamka‏ @ckamka 16m16 minutes ago Most innings this season without allowing a run (earned OR unearned) 14.0 Anthony Swarzak 13.2 Andrew Miller 12.1 Wade Davis
