  1. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 30, 2017 -> 06:01 PM) Who's in a worse position? Bulls or Clippers? I'd actually take LA I'd take LAs position for sure.
  2. This was one of the most predictable threads in Soxtalk history. Looking forward to next year for it again.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 30, 2017 -> 03:03 PM) We know he is capable of being good, he has just gotten back to some bad habits, one handed plays, throwing off one foot when it isn't necessary...he will put in the time to correct it. This is what young players, u less they are superstars do. Eventually, they all struggle, and his defense was so much better than advertised, he may have either slacked a bit with it, or wanted everything to always look spectacular He has been overall awful defensively, but has made many spectacular plays. IMO, he just needs to get back to basics, and not try to do too much. Make simple plays look simple. He is a guy who severely lacks reps. The perfect example is that Gordon Beckham had more PAs his Junior year of college than Anderson did in all of his college career. On top of that he didn't play baseball until his junior year of high school.
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 29, 2017 -> 07:16 PM) And that's why players accept these team friendly deals. yeah, good call.
  5. QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 29, 2017 -> 06:57 PM) Isn't that a potentially career ending injury? Not career ending as much as it could be career altering.
  6. Dang, that really sucks for the guy. Hopefully he heals up well.
  7. QUOTE (ron883 @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 05:07 PM) Never say never Never.
  8. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 04:47 PM) I know we arent going to agree, its just that I am going based on my personal opinion after watching these players play. I think Trubisky is a complete wildcard, he could easily be worth #2 or he could completely flame out. As a Bears fan, I dont think the pick makes a ton of sense. They just signed Glennon, who probably isnt a HOF or Pro Bowler, and then they go out and pick a QB #2. It just doesnt seem to make sense. What made (imo) more sense, was you sign Glennon, you see what he can do as a starter. You pick BPA or trade down to get more picks. You take a QB in the middle rounds, because the risk is lower and there is plenty of history of guys after the 1st turning into serviceable QBs. After 2017 you then see where you are, if Glennon sucks, you probably have a top 10 pick in a draft with some interesting QBs (Darnold, Allen, Ross). At the end of the day, its just opinion. Its fun to look back at these discussions years later and see what happened. SS2k, No one is saying that QBs dont get overdrafted. When Tebow was drafted it was crazy, but that was also a really thin QB class. Top pick was Bradford coming off of an injury where he only played 3 games. And this is by all accounts a thin QB class.
  9. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 03:42 PM) I like how instead of actually looking at the facts, we just say "lots of QBs get drafted in the first round." As I pointed out, in Vick's draft only 1 QB was drafted, Brees went in the 2nd. In Peyton's draft class only 2 were picked (1/2). In Rodgers draft, only 3 went in the 1st. Last years draft 3 went. The idea that 5 QBs are getting picked in the first round every year is pretty unusual. Even in Luck's year (what was considered a deep class) only 4 were selected. I think right now Bears fans are talking themselves into Trubisky. Not saying that Trubisky may not turn out to be a HOF, just (imo) he wasnt even the best prospect in college last year. Unfortunately for the Bears those QBs arent available this year. Guys like Ponder and Tebow getting drafted in the first round are two great examples of QBs getting drafted higher than their ratings.
  10. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 02:32 PM) FutureSox‏ @FutureSox Roster moves: RHP Ian Hamilton promoted to AA Birmingham. RHP Dane Dunning promoted to A+ Winston-Salem. RHP El'Hajj Muhammad Released. didn't see this posted anywhere, if it was I apologize. So Muhammad is taking a Haj?
  11. Over the same period of time the share of the GDP that belongs to the US government has also kept on a steady upward trajectory, which is not a coincidence. When your income is locked into the government, there is no room for growth. That is happening to more and more of the economy. It is also borne out with the labor force participation rate continuing to crash. You aren't going to grow wealth on social security, on disability, on unemployment or any other governmental paycheck.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 03:42 PM) It should be mentioned that this was a chat, and I agree that the only reason he mentioned Chapman is that he was second in velocity to him, and is right handed. I think he probably ran into same situation i'm in, where you struggle to right now think of a high-velo RH bullpen piece...easier to just say RH chapman. edit: Kimbrel! Why not start with his teammate Nate Jones?
  13. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) Obviously a bit of hyperbole, but he did write that Kahnle's perceived velocity this season is 2nd to Chapman. That's a pretty good sign. If the kid puts up an entire years of this, MAYBE we can start to drop Champan's name. MAYBE. Realistically, the odds are about a thousand times better that this month is a fluke, and the kid will fall back to earth soon, versus his being in Aroldis's league.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) 5-8 teams every year "could take" a QB, and when they have a first round grade on them, they get very antsy to get them before the second. Tall athletic males with strong arms and good accuracy in a power 5 conference who succeeded in non-super-gimmicky offenses, and have no character concerns, tend to go in the first round. Many that fail at one or two of those but have a strong arm go in the first anyway. But if you check all of those boxes you are certainly going first round. A reminder that Tim Tebow was a first round pick! If there is a deep QB draft with 5 first round grades and seemingly only 3 teams looking, 5 will get drafted. I'm sure there is an outlier but QBs people expect to go in the first go in the first, and QBs people expect to go in the second also often go in the first. Yep.
  15. Right handed Champan? Come on. I get the guy has improved and all, but you are talking about a guy who is in his own world.
  16. Has anyone seen Collins? Is he being TOO picky?
  17. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) This is why I don't think they were betting against themselves which I originally thought. I think they knew what teams were offering and had ideas of who was looking to move up to grab a QB which teams did a further back in the draft. Seeing more since my previous post, it sounds like Houston was actively talking to SF in an effort to trade up for Trubisky. I would imagine the Bears would have also heard from Houston in that same attempt to trade up.
  18. One thing you can say for sure. Ryan Pace has picked out his noose. The next few years will determine if he hangs in it or not.
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 07:28 AM) My main issue is, that most likely, Trubisky would have been there at #3. The 49ers didn't want to move too far down in the draft, so they wouldn't have traded down with just anyone; so why waste three picks on someone that you could have selected without having to do anything? Plus, Trubisky is not an immediate starter, so why be concerned if you are forced to shore up your porous secondary instead of him? Kizer is still out there and, honestly, he's not much different from Trubisky. The story is that the 49ers had another trade offer on the table.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 10:17 PM) From the day he was drafted all we heard was that he was injury prone. Yet the White Sox got two relief seasons, followed by 5 seasons of 174+ innings. He is probably more effective as a strikeout pitcher than pitch to contact but what is better for his arm? All this as Mr. Durable Felix Hernandez is falling apart after 10+ full seasons. Big picture, this is what I saw. The Sox gave him starts off, weeks off, and short DL stints to really nurse him along. All as tons of guys guys went under the knife. Heck David Price put up about a decade of not missing starts, and any day now is going to have to end his season for TJ surgery.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 06:49 PM) Sale's throwing harder this year than last. Never did understand the approach last year The Sox really worked hard to keep him healthy and keep him off of the surgeon's table. I really wonder if Boston will be able to do the same.
  22. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) From Heyman's AL Notes for the White Sox: https://www.fanragsports.com/mlb/inside-bas...inues-surprise/ With a $25 million offer, how high should the White Sox be willing to go?
  23. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 04:08 PM) Initially I was pro-tank for the draft pick, but we're much better suited to guys playing well and building value than getting a draft pick a few slots higher. I'd rather get the #6 pick and have Kahnle/Swarzak/Holland/Gonzalez turn into viable trade pieces than get the #2 pick and have all of them suck. We come out WAY ahead in this scenario.
  24. QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 01:38 PM) Trade deadline preview with mucho a White Sox amore: https://www.fanragsports.com/mlb/inside-bas...tand-right-now/ Interesting to note on Roberston
