2016-17 NHL Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 12:06 PM) Maybe not, and no real excuses when you are the #1 seed, but Nashville seems like a good team that was a popular preseason pick and might be finally putting together. No chance the Ducks sweep them the way they did with Calgary. We beat them 4 out of 5 during the regular season. They sure didn't give us much problem then.

Sign Avi to a long term contract?
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 12:39 PM) But Avi has always shown us he had the tools - it was just a matter of putting the pieces together. He's hitting .423 now.....so lets say he does slump a little and ends up only hitting .375 for the season with 30 HRs and 110 RBIs. That would fetch at least $20 mil per season in the winter. If we could sign him now for 6/72, it secure a major building block and save us a ton of money. This might be the funniest thing I have ever read on Soxtalk.

White Sox have "set" Luis Robert market
QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 11:48 AM) Jesse Sanchez @JesseSanchezMLB now Source: Cuban OF prospect Luis Robert, 19, was declared a free agent today but will not be eligible to sign until May 20. @MLBPipeline Does that mean he can agree to a deal before then, but not just sign it, or not able to negotiate until then?

White Sox have "set" Luis Robert market
QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 11:31 AM) I understand this viewpoint, but for many teams the eruption (gross) already happened. No way a team like the Pads could legit spend double their ML payroll on one INTL class. STL / HOU are more in the range of a team that could spend big having only banked $15 million. But As already also went big at $15 mill. Do we see them bidding into the $30 mill, putting them at a $45 mill spend? Can't see it, not with the money they are losing in new CBA to push them to get a stadium. Looking at the Forbes list, the Houston Astros made $76 million in profit last year. The White Sox made $42 million, the Cards made $40.5 million, the A's made $25.5 million, and the Padres made $22.8 million. Even if you look at just those profit numbers, the list of teams interested is flush with cash to spend. That list doesn't include a lot of revenue streams, and it also isn't including any projections for this year.

White Sox have "set" Luis Robert market
QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 11:19 AM) I will be shocked if he gets $35 million. I think you guys are way overestimating this. With it being the last shot to spend before the new rules, I can see a real bidding war erupting.

David Robertson
QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 10:39 AM) He sure is on MLB.com. He's their #3. Also, as an 18 year old in full season ball, his stock is going to be rising quickly. I would expect by midseason he is on most people's top 100. Apparently I was looking at a 2016 list where he was still #12.

David Robertson
QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 10:31 AM) I remember seeing the question posed in a Fangraphs chat and the guy thought that without significant salary eating, Robertson wouldn't return a top 100 guy. I tend to agree, so yes. Neither player listed is a Top 100 player. Soto isn't even a top 10 guy for Washington.

2017 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 08:14 PM) Last night's election results showed a 22% swing in the electorate since Nov 8th. That's insane. Jon outperformed even the best polls by 3 points, and the most pessimistic by 9 points. The Dems got 49.5% of the vote last night, compared to 38% in Tom Price's last election. If it weren't for gerrymandering, today the GA-6 would be blue. That said, I feel pretty good about Jon's chances vs. Karen Handel, who has lost every single GA election she's run in, from state legislature to senate to the governorship. Most recent polls have Jon at 48% to Handel's 47%. I'm hopefully going to be heading back for the run-off, because this was the most amazing campaign I've ever been involved with. We had more volunteers than the last 10 candidates in the race got votes... combined. Power to the people, yall! This blew me away. That is 0.001% of money that was local in this election. It will be interesting to see what happens, as this race had 10 Republicans in it prior to the election. Now that there is one candidate to center on, I am sure the GOP will start pounding in the outside money in as well. Neither party nationally wants the headlines for a loss as each is going to claim it as a referendum if they win, and downplay it if they lose. https://www.publicintegrity.org/2017/04/17/...0-national-cash

David Robertson
QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 09:29 AM) Agree with this. Just glad we've moved out of the "Robertson for Severino" territory here. Yeah, I have no problem with Severino being a piece in the deal, but I wouldn't be very happy to see him be the deal.

2016-17 NHL Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 08:54 AM) Nashville had 12 overtime/shootout losses on the season. If they just win one of those coin flips, the Hawks would have faced Calgary. Sigh. With the way the Hawks have played, I am not sure that it would have mattered.

4/19 Games
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 07:59 PM) Spencer Adams legitimately doesn't strike out guys anymore. I don't get how he lost all his stuff shortly after drafting him. This is the fun part of drafting high school pitchers.

David Robertson
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 10:52 PM) If Robertson continues to be solid that won't be considered too high of an asking price in July. The longer Washington waits, the higher the price gets and the better chances of other teams getting into the mix. I kind of doubt the price gets higher, but that teams will finally be willing to meet the Sox price. it is the bids that will go up, not the offer.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 03:29 PM) I noticed no link. Phony. BTW, where is all the rabbit support? Only counts on one side in your world. Stick to baseball. Because most people bored of this routine a long time ago and see it as pointless.

2017 Cubs Catch-all thread
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 03:16 PM) How's that data look on the Indians side or the past Champions/Runner ups in the Series? I legit have no idea and it'd be interesting to see if that whole extra month really hurts in that regard. This was my first thought as well. I remember how much the Sox pitchers declined from 2005 to 2006.

Fangraphs Giving Todd Severson Some Love
QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 02:46 PM) Could it possibly be the evolution of Avi's swing coming to fruition the same way as Donaldson's. Avi pulling that ball for the bomb last night was the biggest eye opener to me. He hasnt been able to pull for power in all the time he has been here. And that was a bomb too. Estimated at 423 feet, almost made it to the second deck. It was a no doubter off of the bat.
