  1. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 03:58 PM) I agree Pirates are most likely out of the Q-stakes. Would have been nice if Q got a start this series in NY since I think he will come back big in his next start after the Minny stinker. Yeah the Marte suspension makes Meadows even more vital, as well as the position players behind him.

  10. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 12:10 PM) I'm thinking bad unless they are willing to sign him at any cost. I still have a hard time seeing the Sox outbidding all of the teams who are already over the caps for this year if he is cleared early.
  11. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 11:23 AM) Loved how Jimmy was spying on that guy in the restaurant and behind Jimmy was Gus, out of focus, cleaning tables, getting closer, until he passed Jimmy and probably tipped the guy off. The thing that Vince Gilligan does better than anyone else is subtlety. It continually amazes me how he can pull it off. So many shows have to hit you over the head with a hint or reveeal, but not Gilligan.
  12. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) If you are rebuilding, why are you looking for players who are closest to the majors? That doesn't make any sense to me. The Sox need to add as much talent into their system as they possibly can. So that means they should be looking at guys with high ceilings, Adell certainly has one of the biggest. A lot of people think our window to contention is going to be really short.
  13. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 10:38 AM) Cain is a really good player, but I'd be hesitant to sign a player who will be 32 years old next April to a long term deal He likely has a couple quality seasons left before he goes into decline and it's generally not worth paying top dollar for that Cain is the type of player whose skillset doesn't age well anyway.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 09:17 AM) The direction, pacing, and storytelling of Better Call Saul is so perfect. Especially because we already know the mid-game (Breaking Bad era) and they are still managing to tease an end game (The Cinnabon era) all while telling a compelling story even without considering that you know the beginning and end of the story already.
  15. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 06:03 PM) That would make a whole lot more sense. I hadn't thought of the cap room possibility. Cash or future considerations. To me something like that would be a consideration. Could it be a thing where if the Sox chase Robert, they have a deal in place to get cap room from TB? It is a wild speculation on my behalf.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 05:02 PM) Well, it's hard to argue Q value has risen...because there are likely to be guys like Duffy, Vargas, Hector Santiago, Archer, Colon, Hellickson, etc., competing with him again in June/July. Heck, Derek Holland's top ten in WHIP, but let's see how he does against NYY tonight. A's could sell high on Graveman, etc. Seems like we might be headed to another suspenseful offseason. But we won't know that until mid-May at the earliest. Even a nice run of starts over a month didn't get Samardzija traded after a lousy start to the year, although circumstances were different back then. For now, let's hope he can avoid the AL Central unless it's the Indians. One of those guys in your list is in the same ballpark as Quintana. All of the rest are somewhere between garbage and ok.
  17. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 05:57 PM) The Bourjas trade is still a head scratcher in that they literally gave him away and had no viable option behind him. If the spring performance of May lead them to believe he was the answer, well, I am not certain what to make of that. If it was a 40 man roster spot that they did not not want to give him, then ok, that makes some sense but I don't think that is the case as the 40 man is at 39 I believe but I could be wrong. I know there is a rebuild and winning and losing is not the main thing but that move makes no sense at all. If they are getting anything for Peter Burjos, it was a win. I am really hoping it is Latin American cap room.
  18. QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) One thing that is already driving me crazy is the notion of whenever a player has a good game or week the tendency of a bunch of fans to say TRADE HIM NOW like that is at all the way that things work, especially two weeks into the season. Realistically, no one is being traded until at least June. Even with the big old neon SELLERS sign facing the Dan Ryan, the Sox need dance partners, and the dance has just begun. None of the cool people will be showing up for hours.
  19. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 04:00 PM) It's hard to assume trade value two weeks into the season, there's so much time for situations to change Right now no team will be making trades barring a huge injury, it's just too early Could Robertson be one of the better relief options on the market? Absolutely, and we should all hope that he is Sure, today he has zero trade value because there is no trade market. Realistically if you are tracking his value on the microticks of each outing, his value is going to be more towards his historical value with his value being re-established both by a strong finish, and a strong start to this season.
  20. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) We are getting totally ahead of ourselves right now Robertson has pitched an excellent 5 innings so far this season, but it's stiff such a small sample size that you cannot necessarily say "he's back" just yet The pitching staff has overachieved the first two weeks of the season and is due for serious regression, especially from Holland and Shields In a case like Robertson it is much easier to assume that the fraction of a season where he was bad is the aberration versus this fraction of a season where he is more in line with the entire rest of his career.
  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) My comment was regarding this new United story in which you basically said "I know there are two sides to a story, but United must be guilty". No need to hear that other side right Greg. And lol at this guy deserving $100M. People who spend half their adult lives in prison for crimes they didn't commit don't get anywhere close to that amount of money when finally proved innocent. I can't comprehend how anyone could be so out of touch with reality. Calling you Forest Gump is putting too nicely. To be fully honest here, I would be shocked to see the guy get a whole lot of money. To a large extent the law is on the side of United here. They have the policy in place as a part of ticket reservation, and the actual violence was done by police officials, and not the United staff. My guess is that a settlement is reached, and the terms are kept confidential, and it is more in the area of seven figures than nine.
  22. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 12:18 PM) I think this is why May is still on the team. Until Tilson comes back, all the Sox have to play CF is Leury, May and Engel. That's pretty slim pickin's to choose from. Hopefully the kid's confident, and this doesn't hurt his development long term
  23. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) Yep, we're in agreement. It's a shame we don't have anything remotely interesting to try instead until Tilson is healthy. In general, that is the state of our position players in the minors. Either we want to way because of service time considerations, or they just aren't very good.
  24. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 11:49 AM) I would still bet on neither player being on the next good Sox team. Probably not, but it doesn't mean that guys like that aren't the type of players you are putting in your line up today. If you hit gold, or even bronze on one or two of them, you are way ahead of where you were.
