  4. QUOTE (SoxFan2003 @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 01:18 PM) I admit that I thought about this when these crazy compensation numbers started popping up in response. But, I agree with this article's conclusion that getting all these strangers to stick together and hold out would be nearly impossible. In my experience, there's typically more volunteers than necessary when an overbooking occurs. That is what makes this whole United fiasco surprising to me. I probably would have jumped at the offer well below the $800 that was rumored to be offered in the first place. Exactly. Game theory only works if you have all like minded people. Most people would walk away for WAY less than $10k. I know I would.

  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 01:10 PM) The early bird gets the worm. Do you really think Avi will tail off? I am pretty certain he will not put up .440/.480/.680 over the course of a season, so yes, I think he will tail off.
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 12:43 PM) That could very well be, but without some changes to the program's core structure, it just doesn't seem like it's going to be very effective. Getting any care possible outside of the VA is a positive thing. Trust me.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) Yeah like I said I wasn't defending the VA there, I had just remembered hearing an NPR interview probably back when that report was released with the bill's original sponsor who talked about the program not being as successful as he had hoped. It suffers from two major problems. #1, the VA has to approve outside care. Their red-tape is very infamous and really doesn't need further analysis. #2, the VA is very slow to pay, so much like Medicaid many providers are opting against providing care for people with this insurance program.

  10. The biggest problem with the program is still the VA itself. They still have to approve outside care, and much like inside care, they take way too long to make decisions. From your article I can speak personally and say that my Dad was diagnosed with a leukemia from Agent Orange, and the need for a triple bypass in the same day in the same hospital visit. It took the VA 3 DAYS to decide which one to treat first, before they even started to review the actual treatment programs.
  11. The Bulls might be the laziest team I have ever seen. They were completely disinterested for a large portion of this season. If they played a bad team, most times they didn't bother playing hard, and often lost. When they went up against a good team, they brough their A game, and often won. Realistically if the team had been motivated in a day in/day out basis, they could have won somewhere around 55 games and been a top half seed. To be fully honest, I don't know that I have hated a team that I root for anymore than I have hated this Bulls team. Even up 2-0 in a playoff series, I just can't find excitement for them.
  12. This is probably the best thing that Donald Trump will do in his four years in office. Of course it should be pretty telling that the one true model we have of government health care is so bad, that no one actually wants it. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/a...;utm_medium=RSS
  13. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) If his glove is as good as they say it seems to me he could have a floor of Brendan Ryan A floor of? No. The guys floor is a minor league wash out who never sees the upper minors.
  14. Wow. Apparently the heroin epidemic has hit Soxtalk. Extending Avi? Trading Avi for Schwarber? Step one is admitting you have a problem. Get help.
  15. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 10:45 PM) Has Lawrie ever signed with anybody? Something about that entire scenario is strange And as bad as Jacob May has been, Adam Engel has almost been worst. Last I read he wasn't healthy enough to sign with anyone.
  16. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 10:26 PM) I wouldn't do anything until Friday at the earliest. Good post QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 11:59 PM) LOCK HIM UP! LOCK HIM UP! LOCK HIM UP! Thread winner.
  17. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 10:00 PM) With Avi becoming one of the best hitters in all of baseball, should we make the move now to secure him long term? I think we could get a good discount based upon his performance of the last several years. Perhaps something like 6 years / $72 million? $12 million a year could still be a steal for someone capable of winning a triple crown and he's still young enough to be an integral part of our team when the prospects mature. I know some may say I sound crazy......but you have to roll the dice sometimes and this may be a good time to gamble.
  18. QUOTE (ventura_abreu @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 09:41 PM) Who gets bumped when Petricka and Rodon are brought back onto the 12 man pitching staff? In addition, if the White Sox feel that Beck and Burdi are ready for the bullpen in May, who would be bumped? Kahnle is #1. I think Covey is the one to lose his rotation slot, but I am not quite sure who loses their spot. Just a wild guess is that the Sox could choose to send out Jacob May and keep an extra pitcher.
  19. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 03:58 PM) I agree Pirates are most likely out of the Q-stakes. Would have been nice if Q got a start this series in NY since I think he will come back big in his next start after the Minny stinker. Yeah the Marte suspension makes Meadows even more vital, as well as the position players behind him.
