  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) That's certainly a key point - Trump doesn't lie as part of pushing some policy or effort over the line, he lies for some combination of protecting his own ego and egging on his hard core followers. But I think with Iraq - and I can't believe I am semi-defending Bush here - it's not a matter of the big lie. It was that Bush was a weak executive who was pushed into the new world order mindset but his own cabinet, who then bullied CIA into trying to find justification for what they already wanted to do, and that's when they stumbled onto Curveball and his info. Bush was given that info, probably assuming the CIA had done what the are supposed to do, which is be skeptics. Instead, they were cheerleaders over edgy information - it was all backwards. Bush lied, but I think he did it without truly realizing what was going on. To be clear - I still lay plenty of blame on Bush for the debacle that was Iraq, but I also blame Rumsfeld and Cheney, and the CIA and their management, and Congress. Trump just sits on the can at 5am and spews out information that is outright, clearly and obviously, false. And then his administration goes to work trying to make blue look like red. It's bizarre and scary and dangerous. He lies at a level and frequency unprecedented for a President. That's why I gave Iraq a maybe, versus Nixon and Vietnam and Roosevelt and WWII.
  2. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) Saladino has proven that he can hit and play excellent defense. He is worth more to the White Sox than his trade value. Sox will be better than last season. Tanking will not happen. I look forward to the Opener. This I do believe. The rest after that is just silly.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 10:46 AM) At this very moment in time? Maybe a Spencer Adams type. But that can all change if he lights it up next year. I think our problem is that our definitions of value and trade value are much different.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 10:42 AM) I really hate this perspective. First, Presidents have lied for centuries, not decades. Second, Trump is doing it to a point that is not just higher, but has outright launched into the stratosphere. None of Obama, Bush, or anyone before them has done anything remotely close to what he and his administration are doing. It is NOT the same, nor is it just some next step. It's extreme. Granted, I don't know the history as well for the earlier ones, but the one I know for sure is starting with FDR and not trying to get us into WWII, while actively plotting with Churchill to get us into WWII. That is why I went with decades. Though it would be easy to argue that lies trying to get us into WWII, Vietnam, and maybe even Iraq are bigger than anything Trump has said so far. I think the reason Trump stands out is he lies for no reason, while most of the most famous Presidential liars through history lied with cold calculation. I can't give Trump that kind of credit, at least not yet. I think he is more pathological about it.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 10:28 AM) The president going public with lies is a huge deal. He's the most powerful man in the free world. The media isnt skewing his words, he is literally typing lies for the entire world to see. He is undermining the office as well as the entire country. The President flat out lying to the American people lost real meaning decades ago. Granted Trump is taking it to new heights, but it is the same thing as always, the party in power makes excuses for it, while the party out of power is outraged.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 09:16 AM) Okay...that still doesn't mean that he doesn't have value. He'd be a great utility guy on any contender and that has value in of itself. How much trade value he would have I really don't know but it's not like he's a negative WAR player. I also don't know where the comparison to Eaton came from because I never compared them and they're not even close to being the same player. Exactly what would you trade for Tyler Saladino?
  7. About half of the group has some big things to prove this year. Booker and Schnurbusch were both old for rookie ball and need to show something in full season ball. Fisher and Adolfo need to prove they can stay on the field for an entire season, and still have their numbers put up. It would be really nice to see a breakout from someone like Adolfo, Rodriguez, or maybe a guy like Otano or Reyes to start to see some positives flowing out of Latin America.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 16, 2017 -> 09:40 AM) The weather is so diferent. Last week I flew to Detroit at 6am. I took my dog out and it was roughly 40 degrees, when we landed in Det there was 6 inches of snow on the ground and it was a blizzard all day. Driving 94 from chicago to Det is like driving through Hoth sometimes. Sounds like Chicago got b****slapped with the lake effect today. 35 car pile up on the interstate at one point.
  9. I went with UCLA winning over Duke, with Kansas and Arizona as the rest of the FF.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 09:52 AM) Wrong Drew - Scott Drew has been speculated to leave Baylor with all of the disasters happening there. Yeah, I keep waiting for the hammer to drop on them, so that wouldn't surprise me at all.
  11. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 09:31 AM) Assuming Illinois can't get the top targets (the Millers, Marshall, etc), I'm really hoping for Bryce Drew. Martin is a good fall back plan if those guys don't show enough interest right away. I don't know about the others, but I can't see Drew leaving Vandy after one year. He got a 6 year/$16 million deal and was the 14th highest paid coach when he signed it, and my guess is that they have a big poison pill in that deal at the beginning.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 12:07 AM) This thread is a perfect example of why the mods have to be concerned about the tone of this board this season. It seems to me every thread is going to turn into a "good, now we can move this guy" if a player does well; a player such as Saladino. There will be very annoying game threads with the posters wanting us to lose every game. Far be it from me to tell u how to run a message board. I know people get sick of me repeating themes such as Hillary sucks, Bernie baby, I want to win every game, the draftniks are ridiculous, etc. But Saladino is a very very very good hitter and I think a big leaguer. So if he makes the team and does well every thread is gonna be, "GOOD NOW WE CAN MOVE HIM." I implore the rebuildniks to calm down and re-assess their posts. Is this board really going to be calling for Frazier to be traded every time he hits a home run rather than celebrating the home run and possible victory? Me says YES. Don't like it. I am concerned about you.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 08:37 PM) This is a gross oversimplification. What if he tears it up in the 1st half next year? The Sox would certainly move him for the right package. If that is a something you are thinking about, you are WAY overrating Tyler Saladino. He isn't Adam Eaton, and never will be. At the top end, we are talking about a starter that you would probably look to replace on a regular basis, at the very best, maybe an OK starter.
  14. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 06:24 PM) Yep I'd be good with Frazier, Rutherford, and a few pitchers. No need for Mateo and Torres probably getting too much hype to make a deal happen right now. My guess is if a deal were to go down, the only way we get Torres is if we step back in our demands for the next couple of guys. That means no Mateo, Rutherford, Frazier, etc, and instead the next couple guys would be in the 5-10 prospects range on the Yankees list, with the last a wild card like Diaz.
  15. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 06:20 PM) Boy would be nice if Saladino could put up a big first half and be moved for a top 100 prospect or two Tyler Saladino isn't going anywhere.
  16. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 06:19 PM) This trade was a total bust for both teams. It is going to be a really long next few years if you are already pronouncing this kid a bust after quite literally one AB.
  17. I set up this one. PW:soxtalkrules1 https://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/...amp;soc_trk=lnk
  18. QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 05:24 PM) They were anti-republican when the republicans were in office and then anti-democrat when the democrats were in office. Funny how that works, right? I honestly think it is just an anti-American thing, and not so much a partisan thing.
  19. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 05:14 PM) Rabbit, I'm confused about your morality re: reporting. You are anti-anonymous leaks, but you are pro information being released via illegal means (hacking). Since even before the election, you have attacked the media for inaccurate reporting, but I haven't seen you address the pretty blatant falsehoods from the President (3-5M illegal votes in the election, Obama wiretapped the President, etc.). You jumped on the Wikileaks document dump and jumped to the conclusion that, because the CIA can manipulate hacks, therefore they must have initiated the hack of the DNC. And you haven't at any point asked why Wikileaks is only going after the Democrats and the US. It's not that Wikileaks isn't dropping real information, but it sure looks as though they are selectively deciding who gets hacked and what gets released. If Wikileaks is anti-Democrats and pro-Republicans, I am curious why the leaks of of things like the Iraq War?
  20. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 05:11 PM) It's 3 weeks and try again. The history of this type of injury indicates that setting any timetable is foolish. Season hasn't even started and you're already trolling, or just your usual failure to read between the lines I guess. This isn't a pulled hamstring with a predictable time frame for recovery. It's also the type of injury where the player gets the go ahead for full speed and games, and then doesn't react so well to game speed and has to rest more. I'll go ahead and bet you that he doesn't play in a MLB game before June. Take that bet? If you want me to be charitable I'll even go June 15th. I am curious where you got your medical degree from and why I should trust your info more than the other guy in this thread with a medical degree who is perfectly willing to take your bet?
  21. The guy with an actual medical degree is saying another 3 weeks. I am going to go with that.
  22. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 11:55 AM) Charlie Tilson = Brett Lawrie version 2.0 Mark This is a complete overreaction and gross simplification. Looking at his minor league career, he pretty much took the field every day. I don't think two fluke injuries change that, at least not at this time.
  23. QUOTE (Tony @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 04:22 PM) I don't blame the networks for putting her on. She is most likely going to give a bat-s*** crazy soundbite that is played on repeat for the next 48 hours. Why the Trump campaign continues to trot her out there is a whole other story. So people are talking about her stupidity instead of anything of substance.
  24. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) Glad the 2B spot is now open for him. He deserves a shot at being regular IMO. I think he would have won the job anyway. The team seemed to have soured on Lawrie.
  25. QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 03:51 PM) I agree with the Yankees having an overrated system as often as they have a highly touted system but I think that's less true this time around. The guys they got back from Cleveland and the Cubs were highly touted before the Yankees got them. On top of that, the Yanks have objectively hit home runs with their last two first rounders in Rutherford and Kaprelian. Mateo definitely seems overrated though. I am not as big on Frazier as the consensus either but that's splitting hairs. Not to mention the White Sox also had interest in the bolded even before they were Yankees.
